Jackie Charles – Time Travel

Jackie Charles by Knut Åserud

Jackie Charles – the love-child, band and alter ego of Kaja Bremnes – looks at the topic of ‘Time Travel’, because after all isn’t the past sometimes better than the future?

The new single is Scandi-pop blended with anarchic tendencies – inspired the times spent between the rooftop bars of Berlin and a Norwegian fishing boat.

Sounds like: The Cure, Alvvays, Ariel Pink

It’s an intensely reflective song that almost borders in emo territory with its transfixing guitars and pensive melodies.

Uffie – No Regrets

Uffie

The first time listening to Uffie‘s ‘Pop The Klock’ was nine years ago and it simply blew our minds. We couldn’t get enough of the French-American’s experimental and nonconformist pop sound. The original modern pop star.

Fast forward nine years and Uffie has definitely not lost her sparkle. Listen to her straight-up pop single, ‘No Regrets’ below.

Wild Moccasins – Doe-Eyed Dancer

Wild Moccasins

One of our ones to watch for 2019 is Wild Moccasins, a beautifully crafted band fronted by the magnificent Zahira Gutierrez with her notable soaring pop melodies.

Their new single ‘Doe-Eyed Dancer’ is taken from the ‘Look Together’ album, which is a resilient and volatile break-up record co-written by Gutierrez and guitarist Cody Swann after their decade-long romantic relationship dissolved.

Listen now and be prepared to click ‘repeat’ over and over again.

Rebekah Fitch – Poison

Rebekah Fitch

We are intrigued by Belfast-based singer/songwriter Rebekah Fitch and her seemingly effortless avility to push artistic boundaries whilst still slotting into the mainstream with her memorable melodies.

Tinkering with 80’s pop and rock sensibiities, her new single ‘Poison’ considers the way we are taught to think and what we are taught to value by society, as well as the topic of control, stopping us from becoming the fullest version of ourselves.

Sounds like: Pat Benatar, YONAKA

Mallrat – For Real

Mallrat

Mallrat

Mall rats tend to hang round shopping centres with their friends, and we kind of get the vibe that this musical Mallrat is a social creature.

At just 17, Mallrat is causing a bit of a stir in her home country of Australia, and beyond, making fun, sociable and youthful pop music.

Her new track ‘For Real’ is just that, and includes some 90’s dance piano chords and an old school, hip-hop beat as well. Lovely.

Sounds like: Alice Jemima, Grimes, Yung Lean, Charli XCX, Izzy Bizu, Uffie

Alice Jemima – Liquorice

Alice Jemima

Alice Jemima

Meet your new favourite artist. Alice Jemima.

Inspired by the likes of The xx and Shura (they share the same drummer live) Jemima describes her debut Liquorice EP as being about “Relationships, terrible nights out and her early experiences of the record industry.”

‘Liquorice is a song about trying to please other people, and then drifting off into this imaginary world to try and please yourself.  I wrote this at a time when I was putting a lot of pressure on myself. I think women especially feel like they should look a certain way or try to be something else, and I was definitely feeling it that day. The video is a fantastic testament to the song, I instantly fell in love with 2Doors (the directors) vision – it’s vibrant and colourful, slightly weird and quirky and most importantly it’s fun and it doesn’t take itself too seriously – which is something I’m a firm believer of :)’

‘Liquorice’ has been taken from her debut EP of the same name released on 17 June via Sunday Best.
