Beta Frontiers – So Cold

Beta Frontiers

Beta Frontiers are a duo from Toronto, Canada, whose latest track ‘So Cold’ is a slushy synth-pop gem, invoking feelings of the end of a brilliant night out, happy and nostalgic in a bustling and alive city. The fazed-out synths, not too dissimilar to the sound of fellow Canadians Trust and Gold & Youth, are tastefully restrained, devoid of overarching banging electro beats and slicing synths, instead making the listener sway slowly in awe, whilst the vocals of Carmen Elle roll over.

Beta Frontiers’ Michael Butler, is a bedroom producer who creates the sound of Beta Frontiers within this home studio. He recently backed the dancy Dionysians Phèdre on tour and has been remixing various artists too.

‘So Cold’ is available for download on via iTunes/Bandcamp now, and the video can be viewed below – beware as it’s NSFW!

Sounds like; Gold & Youth, Trust, Grimes, Austra, IamamIwhoamI

Trust – Rescue Mister & Capitol

TRUSTcropped

Darkwave electro-pop meister Trust, has recently released two tracks off his imminent second LP Joyland; ‘Rescue Mister’ a few days ago, and now, ‘Capitol’.

Toronto-based Robert Alfons aka Trust, received glowing praise for the 2012 Juno-nominated debut album ‘TRST’, and the follow up album ‘Joyland’ will be released by Arts & Crafts on March 4, 2014. It is available to pre-order here.

‘Capitol’ reveals a beating heart pulsing beneath the beats, with a space-laser percussion intro leading into layered synths and the distinctive wide-ranging vocals from Alfons. ‘Rescue Mister’ is a jerky, glitchy stomper however, with slicing high pitched synths cutting into the verse, and child-like vocal accompaniments in the chorus.

As well as the above, have a listen to a thudding dance remix of “Rescue, Mister,” by Tarantula X here.

Trust will be embarking on a massive tour, the London leg of which us indietronica lot will be attending and are rather excited about.

Sounds like; Grimes, Crystal Castles, Salem, Kap Bambino
