BLAJK – Lethal

BLAJK by Jeffrey Ayres

BLAJK by Jeffrey Ayres

Toronto band BLAJK, return with ‘Lethal’, another well put together offering from the four piece.

Of the track, the band say,

“Lethal is a song about a tarnished yet lustful relationship that has kept you going back and forth over time. Constantly yearning for the person while fully aware that reconnecting only leads to trouble and unhappiness. It’s about indulging in the guilty pleasure that is this person and living with the consequences.”

BLAJK – Good Liars

BLAJK

BLAJK

Toronto indie pop five-piece BLAJK make a tidy return to Indietronica with their latest release, ‘Good Liars’.

The track sees lead vocalist Jordan Radics telling the story of contrived, synthetic lives and personalities broadcast through screens and filters.

“Good Liars was built off another song we had written about a year ago. We had always liked its energy but didn’t really know where to go with it. So when it came time to piece together all the demos we had for the EP, that song quickly evolved and became one of our favourites. The original demo sounded much different and it took a couple nights of writing to really bring it to life. But when Jordan sang over it we knew it was strong and it proves to be whenever we play it live.”

It’s another polished and compelling offering from BLAJK. Listen below:

Closely – Empty

Closely

Closely

Closely are a Toronto-based indie band.

Michael was originally looking for a female singer for a project he was working on, but the only response he received was from a male guitarist named Joel. Michael was writing slow, dreamy pop and Joel was writing electro jams. After a few practices and a lot of experimenting, the result was ‘Empty’.

Joel says of the track;

“‘Empty’ is written from the perspective of a friend who has gone in and out of the same relationship with this shitty dude for the last few years. She’s a dancer and we wanted her for our promo video, but she just moved to LA. Instead, we got an amazing dancer from Toronto (Allie Laliberte) to interpret the her own way.”

Interview with Young Empires & The Gates LP

Young Empires - The Gates

Young Empires – The Gates

Young Empires is a feel good, Toronto-based indie band, who we cannot get enough of. We have had ‘The Gates‘ single on repeat and now the LP of the same name is about to be released!

We had a chat with Matt from the band:

Why did you start making music?

None of us were fit to work for the ‘man’ and be part of 9-5 economy. We wanted to be part of the generation of young professionals cutting their own cloth and walking to the beat of their own drum. So we started our own business, the House of Young Empires, which includes music creation, curation, brand consulting, fashion, among other things..

Your song ‘The Gates’ is about fighting through depression and self doubt. Has the creative process of making music helped you overcome similar struggles in your personal lives?

More than creative process as a tool to overcome personal issues, is the reaction that the music creates. When our fans feel a sense of connection to our music, it gives us a deep sense of purpose in life. That, for us, is much more potent and healing.

Describe your sound in three words.

Rhythmic. Uplifting. Modern.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?

We all listen to different music. Very few of us have cross influences. This makes for tension in the creative process and results in something uniquely Young Empires.

Their debut album, ‘The Gates’ is due out on 2 October via HOYE Inc, Exclusively licensed to Votiv Music (excl. Canada)/Pirates Blend Records (Canada). Purchase on iTunes or have a listen to ‘So Cruel’ from the LP.

Sounds like: Little Dragon, Foster & The People, The Hurts, Sir Sly, Pistol Shrimp, Gypsy & The Cat, Brotherun, Temper Trap, Dive In, Satellite Stories, Young Kato, Ghost Beach
