NVDES – Mind Body Soul Music

NVDES by Parker Day Photography

Wow! What a song for us to return to after a brief hiatus from blogging.

NVDES‘ ‘Mind Body Soul Music’ is both a divine and raw new song, with an undercurrent of frenetic energy. The video follows “Flocky” dancing his way through different scenes and forms part of an eleven part video series, which will act like a real-life comic book video story alongside the debut album release, and is directed by NVDES and Audrey Vignoles.

NVDES debut album ‘Vibe City Utah’ will be released on 2 November 2018 and available for pre-order here.

NVDES – Can You Not

NVDES

NVDES

NVDES is a musician from Los Angeles.

The melon lover creates funky and quirky electronica, and has just shared ‘Can You Not’.

Made in about 30 minutes, bouncing and rhythmic bass lines lead the way for this feel-good track.

NVDES says,

“”Can You Not” was made in about 30 minutes. I put up clips on Snapchat as i was building it. I used a filter that said “Can You Not” with broken hearts. Based on the response from snapchat i decided to release this track as a demo and name it after the snapchat filter. It channels a “laptop punk” aesthetic I have been seeking and I also like how there are now lyrics. My intention is that listeners create their own experience with the scratch vocals. This track with also be available on 5 limited edition demo cassette tapes at Vacation vinyl in Silver Lake, CA.”

Digitalism – Go Time

Digitalism

Digitalism

Hamburg duo Digitalism (aka Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekçi) return with their third album called ‘Mirage’, which stems from “the ecstasy” of “epic trips around the globe”.

The second single from the album, ‘Go Time’, continues the theme of the album, comfortably sitting somewhere between nostalgia and futurism.

Stemming from one simple loop, this is an anthem for the weekend.

Exclusive: Them Swoops Playlist

Them Swoops - Into The Atmosphere

Them Swoops – Into The Atmosphere

Forming in 2012, and making a return in 2016, it’s Melbourne alt-indie band, Them Swoops.

They’ve made a lovely ‘Seasonal Conserves’ playlist for the readers of Indietronica, full of funky beats and summery vibes.

See the track list below:

1) Total Giovanni – Can’t Control My Love

Saw/heard about these guys for the first time at Meredith Music Festival, they promptly proceeded to blow everyone’s minds with their Stardust meets Talking Heads meets quasi-ironic Italian shtick.

2) Mini Mansions – Death Is A Girl

From one of our fav albums of last year. Pounding rhythm, floating lyrics, hooks flying everywhere. Saw them open for Tame Impala and was sold on the spot.

3) Ben Browning – Make It Easy

Local boy made good, BB plays bass in Cut Copy and in his spare time writes ridiculously catchy tunes such as this one.

4) Baptism Of Uzi – Stray Current

There’s something about this song that I’ll never be able to pinpoint what it is that makes it so awesome. Basically, I wish I wrote it. Simple elements, but when put together make something strange and beautiful.

5) Tom Vek – Sherman (Animals In The Jungle)

Takes a while to kick in but when that bassline hits, it’s relentless. Love the verses in this one. Detached, but delivered with attitude.

6) Nantes – Charlie

We played with Nantes a few years ago and while the majority of their sound is a lot darker than this, this shimmering, colourful pop song really stuck with me. It’s a feelgood track that makes it onto almost any playlist I put together.

7) Donny Benet – Sophisticated Lover

This track is best consumed with its video clip. It straddles the fine line of being pathetic, ridiculous and pure genius.

8) NO ZU – Raw Vis Vision

Excellent party vibes in this track from crazy Melbourne locals. These guys are old friends and it’s awesome to see them continually not give a damn.

9) Young Hysteria – This Is Not A Love Song

Super smooth and minimal, this track is sparse in places, lush in others, but beautiful throughout.

10) Jagwar Ma – The Throw

A good buddy of mine tried to get me along to one of Jagwar Ma’s early shows in Melbourne a few years ago. I didn’t make it and spent the next 2 years kicking myself as Howlin’ is one of my favourite records of the last 5 years. Saw them live at Meredith and lost my mind.

Listen to ‘Into The Atmosphere’ by Them Swoops below.

Sounds like: Cut Copy, Van She, Holy Ghost!, Gypsy & The Cat, San Cisco, Classixx, Friendly Fires, The Kooks, Bag Raiders

Premiere: Nicky Venus – Bodily Love

Nicky Venus by Shane Wilson

Nicky Venus by Shane Wilson

We recently received a press release asking us “Who is Nicky Venus?”

It’s a good question and one that Indietronica felt required answering.

Upon listening, we discovered that Nicky Venus is a sophisticated San Diego-based synth pop act, who has won the Best Pop award at the San Diego Music Awards 2014.

He sought musical inspiration during his travels in Asia, with nothing than a laptop, backpack and un-mailed letter to hand. The result is his new album ‘Little Runner’; a highly danceable album about suffering for love.

Indietronica is proud to be premiering the second track from the album called ‘Bodily Love’. It is full of lush minimal arrangements with a deeply sinister and haunting undertone.

Nicky will be releasing singles monthly until the album is released in November.

Sounds like: Depeche Mode, Tom Vek, LCD Soundsystem, David Bowie, Simple Minds, Thompson Twins, We are Scientists, The Album Leaf, White Arrows, College, Shiny Toy Guns, Zella Day

Telepathe – Drown Around Me

Telepathe

Telepathe

Telepathe (aka multi-instrumentalists Busy Gangnes and Melissa Livaudais) have quite a history.

The duo initially started recording music in 2006 by moving to a warehouse in Bushwick and recording their first EP ‘Farewell Forest’. This was followed in 2008 with their debut album ‘Dance Mother’, which they worked on with TV on the Radio‘s Dave Sitek.

They later quit their day jobs and relocated to Los Angeles to record the album in a few short and intense months. “Melissa and I decided to leave NY for a couple of months during the winter to write and record this new album,” Busy explains. “We rented an apartment on Sunset Boulevard. At the time we were reading a lot Science Fiction and researching California cults, which became themes that seeped into our music.”

Watch the effortlessly cool video for ‘Drown Around Me’ below:

The track has been taken from their long-awaited second album ‘Destroyer’. Co-produced with Lewis Pesacov and mixed by Matty Green, the girls have started their own label BZML to release their album on their own terms.
