ZAGATA

ZAGATA

Meet Montreal-based producer ZAGATA (aka Jesse Proteau).

ZAGATA makes slow embracing synth-led tunes and can put together a wicked playlist together.

On that note, here is said wicked playlist. Enjoy!

Moderat – A New Error
Very inspiring synth bass line and tones.

Porches – Underwater
Like the overall mix from Chris Coady on this. Sometimes less is better.

Just my fav song from them. Definitely one of my fav bands as well.

Adriatique – Space Knights
I’m just so stoked about the mood of this track.

Crystal Castles – Not In Love (Feat. Robert Smith)
This track is the definition of a perfect song. That chorus is just awesome.

College and Electric Youth- A Real Hero
I like the simplicity of this one. Sweet blend. Perfect amount of melancholy and hope.

George Fitzgerald – Full Circle
My favourite song for training. Like the vibe, BPM, synths, tone and vocals. Best album of 2015.

Com Truise – Karova
I just love how Com Truise mixes his drums. Tone reference at all points.

Caribou – Can’t Do Without You
Such an amazing Canadian artist.

1 Moderat song is not enough!

Hunny – Vowels (and The Importance of Being Me)

HUNNY

HUNNY

HUNNY is a South Californian band, who like to create sweet blends of 80’s pop punk. They cite their influences from the likes of Prince and The Cure.

Their debut EP ‘Pain/Ache/Loving’ was produced with Eric Palmquist (Bad Suns, Trash Talk). The result is a lovelorn themed EP that paints a colourful picture of heartbreak and frustration through angst driven anthems.

The Wild Wild – When We Were Young

The Wild Wild

The Wild Wild

The Wild Wild (aka Benjamin Dunn) has released another astounding number called ‘When We Were Young’, taken from Ben’s debut EP, ‘Kids’ released on 25 March via Descendent Records.

About Kids, Dunn explains, “The ‘Kids’ EP is my ode to unabashed and unbridled youth…I started hitchhiking when I was 18, that’s when I left the Midwest…I made my way west ended up in Venice beach, for a year and a half or so I just slept on beaches.”

With its Ukulele-styled riffs, inviting and expansive vocals, and soft drums, ‘When We Were Young’ is the perfect summer anthem.

Sounds like: Of Monsters and Men, M83, Bastille, Mew, Dive In, The Temper Trap, Landings, Kid Astray, Sekuoia, Kármán Line, XPLOR, Mackintosh Braun, FLOR, Friendly Fires, MGMT, Walk The Moon

I Know The Chief – Miami

I Know The Chief

I Know The Chief

We miss hearing the sound of Friendly Fires‘s playing out of stereo. That was until we heard of I Know The Chief and their new release ‘Miami’.

Snug bass lines and nonchalant vocals (probably due to the Australian weather) pretty much sum this track up.

Have a listen to ‘Miami’ below.

Sounds like: Friendly Fires, Cut Copy, The Wild Wild, Miami Horror, Holy Ghost!, Fenech Soler, Gigamesh

The Wild Wild – Caspian

The Wild Wild

The Wild Wild

Benjamin Dunn is better known as The Wild Wild.

The Wild Wild found a lot of inspiration from an array of opposing influences, whilst spending time on a California beach and his new album has the ability to make it feel you’re sat there right next to him. Benjamin worked tirelessly in the studio with close friends and producers who each helped to add extra levels of sentiment to the album.

The Wild Wild’s new song ‘Caspian’ showcases Benjamin’s powerful song writing, with its soaring vocals over a dazzling indie backdrop. It also takes influence from the Prince Caspian novel by C.S. Lewis.

‘Into The Sea, Into The Stars’ is available via a 2-disc CD album, vinyl and for download from the 11 December.

Sounds like: M83, Bastille, Mew, Dive In, The Temper Trap, Landings, Kid Astray, Sekuoia, Kármán Line, XPLOR, Mackintosh Braun, FLOR, Friendly Fires, MGMT, Walk The Moon
