Lastlings – Urges

Lastlings - Urges

Australian brother-sister duo, Lastlings, share new track, ‘Urges’.

It follows on from ‘Time’, You’ and ‘Chills‘, all of which showcase their knack of creating melancholic electronic pop, with airy vocals and lustering melodies.

The track is out now on Exist. Recordings (the label recently launched by Danny Harley of The Kite String Tangle) and is taken from their forthcoming ‘Verses’ EP.

Lastlings – Chills

Lastlings

Lastlings

Lastlings are an Australian brother-sister duo who create icy electronica.

Glacial electronica from the Gold Coast. It’s not something that you often hear, but we love their new track ‘Chills’. It cleverly showcases Amy’s echoing and angelic vocals, whilst Joshua masters the backdrop of swelling synths.

They are definitely ones to keep an eye on.

‘Chills’ is the third single from the Lastling’s upcoming debut EP ‘Unreality’, to be released early 2016.

Phantom – Over

Phantom by Ekla Vaacutely

Phantom by Ekla Vaacutely

Meet Finnish electronic duo Phantom.

Fans include The xx, and now Indietronica.

New track ‘Over’ is about the dangers of complacency in your life, which ultimately leads to anxiety which you then cannot escape from.

It was written by Hanna Toivonen whilst waiting for a twisted ankle to recover, it features the duo’s trademark dark and ominous sound. Repetitive synths, samples and echoing percussion provide a backdrop for her clear, powerful voice, with producer and sound engineer Tommi Koskinen’s drum patterns taking on an almost tribal feel as the song builds to an overwhelming crescendo.

It is out now via VILD Recordings.

Sea Change – Squares

Sea Change

Sea Change

Sea Change (aka Ellen. A. W. Sundes) is back with ‘Squares’.

Reminiscing the echoey tones of Daughter‘s Elena Tonra, Sundes’s vox are pure and crisp, yet commanding as they flow over the track’s icy and minimal beats.

Sea Change states “When I wrote Squares I had a strong urge to run away from everything and everyone, and never look back”.

Sea Change – Above

Sea Change

Sea Change

Sea Change is the musical alias of the Oslo-based artist Ellen. A. W. Sundes.

The icy princess has taken the opportunity to let go with this project and acknowledges that new track ‘Above’ “is about wanting something and just not be able to see what’s good for you. Wanting it more and more even though some part of you know it will end bad. I think everyone has had a relationship like that. Not realising your destructive self, wishing things were different. It is a vulnerable song.”

Layering collected sounds, punctuating beats, scattered vocal harmonies and kinetic choruses that hark back to her late 80s childhood, Sea Change captures an enchanting sense of magic and mystery.

The track was taken from her upcoming album, ‘Breakage’. All of the tracks on the album were recorded in Ellen’s bedroom in her hometown of Oslo, and mixed by Endre Kirkesola. It is set for release on 23 February 2015.
