Hans Island – Break Free

Hans Island - Break Free

Hans Island – Break Free

Hans Island is the new collective project of Canadian producer Mawhs and recently Scandinavian Soul Awards nominated singer Marie Dahlstrøm.

Working miles apart doesn’t restrict a flow of ideas between the two, and ‘Break Free’ proves just this. The release is a minimalistic R&B-influenced track with an unusually upbeat vibe, courtesy of Marie’s falsetto vocals full of nostalgia.

‘Break Free’ is available from today on their self-titled EP.

Sounds like: Jessie Ware, Gorgon City, V V, The Carpenters, Monogem, Prinze George

Death In The Afternoon – ’82

DITA

DITA

Death In The Afternoon (DITA) is a Scandenaivna electronic duo, formed of Christian and Linda.

With the current media age, there are no boundaries for musicians to team up and produce a track remotely across the globe from one another. This is exactly what DITA have done with new song, ‘’82’.

Airy, dreamy and filled with sky high vocal lines and a sense of melancholia, this is one beautiful death in the afternoon.

Listen below.

’82 will be released via Summer Heart’s label Sommarhjärta, and it will be available for sale and download everywhere from the 28 August.

Sounds like: Anteros, M83, MGMT, Young Galaxy, Summer Heart, Goldroom, Karl Kling, RAC, Washed Out, Day Wave

Say Lou Lou – Nothing But A Heartbeat

Say Lou Lou

Say Lou Lou

To celebrate the release of Say Lou Lou‘s debut album, ‘Lucid Dreaming’, the sisters have revealed a short film encapsulating the essence of the album in its entirety.

The film, set to the band’s single ‘Nothing But A Heartbeat’, was devised by the band and directed by Joanna Nordahl (Lune, Ji Nilsson). Alongside the album body of work, inspiration has been sought from Lars Von Trier’s ‘Melancholia’, Hans Zimmer and ‘On Being Ill’ by Virginia Woolf while drawing parallels to religious ideology and exploration of mental sanity. The band appear in a dream-like state, surrealistic and boundless with abstract thoughts running free.

The band explain the idea; ”Dreams are a way for human minds to digest their memories, and this film is sort of a digestion of our experiences of these past years as Say Lou Lou.”

Watch the stunning short film below:

Lucid Dreaming is available now via À Deux/Cosmos Music and can be purchased on iTunes here.

Sounds like: Ji Nilsson, Kyla la Grange, Tove Lo, Foxes, Paris Carney, Florence + the Machine, Banks

TULA

TULA

TULA is a Berlin-based Swedish quintet.

Continuing their production-collab with Klas Åhlund (RobynMadonna, Kylie Minogue, Tove Lo) is their latest single, ‘River’.

There is no need for TULA to shout about ‘River’; it is a gentle and understated track that exposes TULA’s true qualities in songwriting and timings.

RAINDEAR – Veins

RAINDEAR

RAINDEAR

Not another Swedish synthpop songstress I hear you scream!

But there is something slightly different and magical about this one. RAINDEAR (aka Rebecca Bergcrantz) is more than another indie electro femme from Scandinavia .

Her new track ‘Veins’ frequently changes tempo and is highly disco in parts. Not your usual ethereal ballad.

She describes the track as being “about that kind of destructive love that you stick with ‘cause you love the rush, but you secretly know it’s bad for you. This is the addictive kind of love you can feel for a lover or for a friend or anything really and it’s of the kind that is almost warlike and comes from a very dark place.”

Have a listen to the WTNSS remix too:

Purchase ‘Veins’ on iTunes here.

Sounds like: Little Dragon, WTNSS, Ballet School, Kate Boy, Lykke Li, Phantogram, Santigold, SBTRKT, CSS

Roisto – Apart In Love

Roisto

Roisto

Following on from the innovative video for TJH87‘s ‘Good Life‘ Feat. Gamble & Burke, is Youth Control‘s next release;  ‘Apart In Love’ by Finnish producer Roisto.

An electronic creature by nature, Roisto hides away in the dark forests of northernmost Finland. Despite Roisto meaning ‘villain’ in Finnish, the only evil deed carried out by this producer is creating his own stylist brand of disco in his studio and taking inspiration from old analog synths, tape machines, and 12” disco records.

You wouldn’t be blamed for thinking Roisto hails from France. ‘Apart In Love’ is so nu-disco, it conjures up images of a younger Daft Punk dancing in the streets of Paris with Chromeo and Chic as backing dancers.

Pre-order the EP on iTunes here.

Sounds like: TJH87, Chromeo, Daft Punk, The Ugly Club, 8th Grader, PWNDTIAC, Phoenix, Holy Ghost!, Ghost Beach, Cut Copy, Chic, Michael Jackson, Armand Van Helden

Thea & The Wild – Heartattack

Thea & The Wild

Thea & The Wild

Classic scandi-pop Thea & The Wild is the project of Thea Glenton Raknes.

‘Heartattack’ is the latest song from her album ‘Strangers And Lovers’. The melodic synth-based track twinkles with classic folk and pop.

“The songs I have made for this album is “pop” the way I like it; with clear choruses and lively melodies and rhythms. The lyrics may be a little dark, as I tend to write them from what struggles I have in my head. This is a record you can listen to while you dream of falling in love or reminisce about heartbreak”, says Thea about her upcoming album.

The success of her record in Norway has led to a UK release for the album ‘Strangers And Lovers’, released 12 January 2015 on Jansen Plateproduksjon. Order on iTunes here.

Sounds like: Aurora Asknes, Susanne Sundfør, Kurt Vile
