VHS Collection – The Black

VHS Collection

VHS Collection

NYC synth-rockers, VHS Collection, return with ‘The Black’.

Channelling some Chris Isaak vibes (possibly as a result of only using analogue gear during the track’s recording), the light electronic floor filler is paradoxically about the darkest and ugliest emotions you suffer during a breakup.

It’s taken off their ‘Stereo Hype’ EP.

Sounds like: The Killers, Franz Ferdinand, Savoir Adore, Bloc Party, Brandon Flowers, Future Islands, The Bravery, MOTHXR, Empire Of The Sun

Airplane Man – Take Me All The Way Home

Airplane Man

Airplane Man

Although the illusive Airplane Man creates indietronica (think Miike Snow, MGMT…), you’d be surprised to hear that Pink Floyd and The Beatles are also of huge influence.

So how do you go about incorporating modern indie dance with 70’s psychedelia? By combining conscious-raising visuals with catchy, soulful vocals and upbeat melodies, of course!

Sounds like: Fenech-Soler, Goldroom, Honne, Jason Gaffner, Savoir Adore, MGMT, Miike Snow

Mirror Talk – Some Boys

Mirror Talk

Los Angeles-based music collaborative of Court Alexander, Steven Lopez, Sean Krell and Dave Lewis is the electronic band called Mirror Talk.

Mirror Talk combines new wave with R&B influences in ‘Some Boys’; a synth-heavy power ballad that sounds like something straight off the radio in 1984. Between frontman Court Alexander’s soulful vocals and the A-plus melodic hook, this is one catchy track!

‘Some Boys’ will appear on the band’s upcoming EP ‘1997’, out on 19 May via Yellow Year Records. Pre-order the EP on iTunes.

Sounds like: Scissor Sisters, Monarchy, St. Lucia, Royal Tongues, Savoir Adore
