POWERS – Sunshine

POWERS

POWERS

POWERS is a Los Angeles-based duo comprised of Mike Del Rio and Crista Ru.

Like many of their Californian musical counterparts, they create forward-thinking and invigorating pop.

The track is a really fun rollercoaster of indietronica sounds and melodies.

POWERS are crafting the new album alongside powerhouse producers such as Mark Rankin (Adele, Florence + the Machine, Queens of the Stone Age) and Rich Costey (Foster the People, Muse, Santigold).

Interview: Raindear

Raindear

Raindear

Disclosure: I am RAINDEAR’s publicist at the time of writing.

Soon to be the name of everyone’s lips, we caught up with Raindear; the musical project of Swedish artist, Rebecca Bergcrantz.

For those of you who don’t know you, tell us a bit more about Raindear and how you got into music.

Raindear is the umbrella term for my musical little universe and it consists of songs written, produced and sung mostly by myself. I got into music when I was born as my parents are both musicians and involved me in their projects right away. However I got in to the electronic scene maybe five years ago when I lived in London.

You’ve previously mentioned that you’re not a huge fan of the Swedish music scene. Tell us more!

It’s not that I don’t respect what’s coming out of here and I’m generalising big time when I talk about it. I just sometimes think there are a lot of predictable pop here, it can be very generic and “inside the box”. BUT there are some exceptions for sure. I love and respect some stuff! Niki and the Dove are always great, among a lot of others.

Describe your sound in three words.

Psychedelic, angelic, apocalyptic.

You are playing London in August. What can fans expect from a Raindear show?

You can expect an intense set with harmonies, beats and heavy bass.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?

I have a lot of world music influences. I’m a huge fan of world music. And I make music by a jazz philosophy.

We love new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to?

I don’t listen to anything brand new at the moment but the best advice I have is that everyone should listen to Ott, he’s a demon! He released an album last year and it’s completely insane.

Raindear is offering a free download of her tribute cover to Prince. How lovely!

Playlist: Dragonette

Dragonette

Dragonette

It’s not always about the girls, but sometimes it is.

The lovely Dragonette have put together a playlist for us called “Indietronica – an indie pop girls only mix”.

Listen below!

Santigold – Can’t Get Enough Of Myself (feat. B.C)
I was told that this song was inspired by an Iranian disco song from the 80’s. I’ve been listening to a lot of world music and I love how well they mashed this up. So unique.

Lucius – Born Again Teen
I feel deeply in love with Lucius’ first record. There are so many awesome songs on this new one of theirs Good Grief. But I’m choosing “Born Again Teen” on our playlist because i think its such an strange arrangement. Where’s the chorus!? I don’t know! Who cares?

Dua Lipa – Be The One
Every time I go back to London to work with other musicians I learn about artists who are up-and-coming over there. Last time I was there it was Dua Lipa. Maybe everybody already knows her but I just discovered her and I love the vibe of this tune.

Niki & The Dove – Coconut Kisses
Niki & The Dove’s The Drummer is one of my favourite indie pop albums of all times. I’ve been waiting a long time for their follow up. It almost reminds me of Empire Of The Sun. But with Stevie Nicks‘ voice.

Christine And The Queens – iT
My friend showed me this song the other day, I don’t know anything else of theirs. It’s the beginning of a new love I suspect.

Petite Meller – Barbaric
I think she’s a style genius. We played a show with her in Florence and I drank her up like pink lemonade.

Sounds like: Niki & The Dove, Charli XCX, Gwen Stefani, Icona Pop, OH Land, Little Boots, Girl Friend

Premiere: The Fauve – Falling Hard

The Fauve

The Fauve

The Fauve is the expressive new project from Hayley Taylor.

Originally an acoustic indie/rock singer, Taylor has taken the leap into electronica. But she hasn’t done it lightly. No, Hayley has started by collaborating with musicians like The Bravery‘s Anthony Burulcich, John Morrical (Santigold, Charli XCXMr. Little Jeans), and Dan Romer (Ingrid Michaelson) to create a audacious electronic sound full of shimmering electronics and fiery drumbeats.

Be the first to listen to ‘Falling Hard’.

Expect the full album out by the end of 2016.

Sounds like: Paperwhite, Prinze George, Evvy, Pawws, Haerts

RAINDEAR – I’m The Ice

Raindear

Raindear

Swedish electro pop starlet, Raindear returns after a brief hiatus, with ‘I’m The Ice’.

‘I’m The Ice’ is a track about someone who is frozen, passive and unhappy in a situation.

It’s clear that Raindear was hard at work during her mini break, cooking up a hot storm of dark electro in the midsts of a cold and isolated Swedish winter.

Disclosure: I am RAINDEAR’s publicist at the time of writing.

‘I’m the Ice’ has been taken from her forthcoming album, ‘Embers’, which is out on 22nd April and available for pre-order on iTunes.

Sounds like: Little Dragon, WTNSS, Ballet School, Kate Boy, Lykke Li, Phantogram, Santigold, SBTRKT, CSS

Major Lazer – Be Together feat. Wild Belle

The video has finally arrived for the fabulous ‘Be Together’ by Major Lazer, featuring the gorgeous husky vocals of Wild Belle‘s Natalie Bergman, who, in the video, is snuggling up to, you guessed it, Diplo himself (although it doesn’t end well for Diplo).

It’s another part of Major Lazer’s Peace Is The Mission collab.

Interview with Ripsy May

Ripsy May

Ripsy May

‘Black Wine’ is singer-songwriter Ripsy May’s debut release. The video, created by the same production team behind Joyrich’s campaigns, is a perfect depiction of the song’s more profound message; in which the phrase ‘black wine’ could be seen as synonymous with the role media plays in today’s conflicts of race and identity.

‘Third-culture kid’ aka “Rip” (an Armenian born in Latvia, and raised in London after the Soviet collapse, but currently living in Los Angeles) is hard to pinpoint. With her unconventional background, comes her unconventional sound.

We wanted to find out more…

Why did you start making music?

Hard to answer – I grew up listening to music and always celebrated it. But to be specific, it was about 2 years ago that I decided to pursue music full-time.

We know very little about you, but your music is already picking up a lot of traction on social media. Why do you think this is?

I have absolutely no idea. I wasn’t on social media before the day of the release. It’s hard to say what makes something successful or not – especially if it’s something creative. But I didn’t have any set rules or guidelines when creating the song or working on the visual – I think that can be very freeing, and perhaps that’s what people caught on to. I must say that I have an amazing team – Gabby (Endacott) has worked in management/A&R for a while and Kearra (Nicolle) is a digital media queen – their hustle definitely helped push it forward.

Describe your sound in three words.

Honest, varied, and sometimes a little weird.

The video to your single, ‘Black Wine’, has an awesome concept behind it. Tell us some more about it!

The video is essentially a group of different people being subjected to different stresses, and then coming out of it. You get to watch them go through the different experiences, and ‘Black Wine’ is my word for propaganda in the song – so it’s watching them fight, or accept it. I could go on, but I want the viewer to have their own experiences of the song, and video.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?

Definitely the old cats. Bing Crosby, Louis Armstrong, the Bee Gees, Queen

We love new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to?

I love Tame Impala – who doesn’t? But I also think the most recent Alabama Shakes’ record is brilliant.

Sounds like: Little Dragon, Santigold, SBTRKT, Foxtrott

Philco Fiction – Runimals

Philco Fiction

Philco Fiction

Clean-cut Oslo duo Philco Fiction shouldn’t be running anywhere, especially when it comes to new single ‘Runimals’; a self-described ‘gospel pop’ jam, adorned by a steady horn section and potent backing vocals.

We are expecting good things from this duo in 2016.

Listen below.

The track is Philco Fiction’s forthcoming sophomore LP ‘Talk/Brag’, out on 29 January via Killing Moon Records.
