SUMif – Malaga

SUMif by Lauren Marquardt

SUMif by Lauren Marquardt

Meet SUMif, a San Francisco-based electro pop producer and singer.

After studying music business at NYU, SUMif moved to Nashville to write country music. However, it turns out that music that producing electronic music was more her forte.

One of the results is ‘Malaga’.

Of the track, SUMif explains;

“Malaga” is about my favorite thing in the world – dancing my face off at music festivals with my favorite friends. I wrote this song about those magical moments, an ode to everyone who I’ve ever danced with, in the desert, in a French-Canadian rainstorm, in the fields of Golden Gate Park, on the Isle of Wight, or while watching a rainbow meet the sunset over The Gorge. Those are among my favorite memories, so I tried to capture those feelings in a song.”

Sameblod – My Fortune

Sameblod

Sameblod

Swedish indietronica artists are really nailing that summery Australian vibe right now. A folk/synth duo that falls into this category is Sameblod who are back with new track ‘My Fortune’. A familiar sound? That’s because Sameblod is signed to the same label as Summer Heart.

Frederick Rundqvist and Mikael Mattisson met in Stockholm by way of San Francisco, and started making music together which they describe as “hopeful-electronic-mellow-pop with a lot of different influences”.

‘My Fortune’ will be available for sale and download via Sommarhjärta Label everywhere on the 15 June.

8th Grader – Sex Tongue

8th Grader

8th Grader

Wow, is it getting hot in here with the video for ‘Sex Tongue’ by 8th Grader (aka Jay Martinovich). But hold your horses a minute, as the video is purely tongue and cheek as 8th Grader explains below:

“This song/video is a narrative as well as a critique on idealized sexuality in the media. I wanted to show a juxtaposition of clichéd sexual norms alongside queer culture in San Francisco and America. I also just wanted to write a fun song to dance to in the style of Prince and the Tom Tom Club.”

Watch the video below.

Carousel – Another Day

Carousel

Carousel

The San Fran electro-pop duo Carousel bring us a video for their new track, ‘Another Day’.

The humorous video follows a pool party gatecrasher in hot pursuit of an attractive blonde. The characters, that are controlled by a young girl, are based on the Ken and Barbie dolls, although Ken looks and acts suspiciously like Tom Cruise.

The Felipe Torres Urso-directed video cites a clear influence from L.A., following Carousel’s 2012 move there.

There are a limited 1,000 copies of the 7″ ‘Another Day’ vinyl for release on 12 November 2013. Pre order now from Old Friends Records.

Carousel – Dancing On My Own (Robyn Cover)

Carousel

Carousel are an electro-pop duo from San Francisco. Members Jackson Phillips and Kevin Friedman began writing and producing music together in late 2011 when they were at music college together in Boston.

In Spring 2012, the pair moved to Los Angeles, and they have been creating velvety indietronica and touring the US since. Their cover of Robyn’s now three year old hit ‘Dancing On My Own’ is given a softer makeover, yet is still full of the sonorous splendour of the original.
