East London based quartet, Zola Blood is undoubtedly one of our favourite electro-ambient projects to come out of the UK.

The recent tour with RÜFÜS DU SOL has left a visible mark on the band – they appear more direct and powerful in their delivery. ‘Silver Soul’ is taken from their latest EP set for release on 22 May via Akira Records.

Speaking about the track, they explain,

“Silver Soul is about saying a last goodbye to a time or a place when you’ve outgrown it and you know it’s time to change.”

Zola Blood – Two Hearts

We are psyched to share Zola Blood‘s new single, ‘Two Hearts’, the title track of their latest EP set for release on 22nd May via Akira Records.

Taking a slightly heavier approach that their previous body of work, the track sets the tone for the EP, complete of a body of intricate and powerful songs.

A further nod to the bittersweet essence of the EP can be seen within the artwork. Referencing the Japanese art of Kintsugi, a tradition of fusing broken pottery back together with Gold. The EP reflects the philosophy behind the art, which challenges the idea that in order to preserve something, it can never change.

Cubicolor – Wake Me Up

Cubicolour is a duo composed of Amsterdam-based producers Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek, and British singer-songwriter Tim Digby-Bell.

The second single ‘Wake Me Up’ – taken from their second attempt of a sophomore album, ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’, via Anjunadeep – explores the transient sense of identity in an uncertain, yet alluring manner.

Despite a period of losses – friends, loves, health, an album and each other – Cubicolor battled through and the result is an album that is undeniably true to themselves as a band.

Roland Tings – Up Close

Roland Tings is one of our favourite Australian producers of the moment.

A euphoric number at its heart, ‘Up Close’ by Roland Tings is the third single to be taken from his forthcoming ‘Salt Water’ LP, and a reassuring late-night potion.

Speaking on the process behind ‘Up Close’ and its positioning on the album, Tings explains, “I knew that I needed a really euphoric track in the first half of the record to propel the LP forwards. When I heard the original vocal by Alyss, I knew that it was perfect for what I wanted. The production of her voice was psychedelic, and the lyrics fit with exactly what I wanted the record to say.”

Inspired by life on the road, Newman decided to record much of the new album in relative isolation from a rented home on the Great Ocean Road near Melbourne. Immersed in his studio and buried in his work, he came up for air and returned to the environments that first inspired the album. “I put the demo on my phone and drove around the winding coastal road near my house, making mental notes on how it felt as I drove,” he says. “I could hear everything that needed to happen in the track. I rushed home, made the changes and then got in the car again. I repeated this for hours, driving this crazy road away from my house, then back again to make the changes I could hear in my head.”

‘Up Close’ is out now via Sony/Cascine.

Artists these just seem to get younger and younger, and Nick Anthony at just 19-years of age has not only found success as a dance producer but soon realised that his talents have overflowed from dance into poppier, crossover sounds – which has become a sound distinctly his.

His latest, ‘When I’m Gone’, which features the vocal talents of Chloe Gendrow and taken from his forthcoming EP is the next chapter in his ever-evolving sound and sets and irrefutable mood.

An obscure Japanese record now reissued and having a bit a of a resurgence, lovely Balearic vibe!

Eurythmics – Take Me To Your Heart
I had never dug into Eurythmics until recently, this tune gets me every time. I found this tune when looking through things Holger Cuzkay had worked on, his freaky stamp is all over it

John Maus – Bennington
This John Maus track came out a long time ago but still sounds super fresh, amazing dreamy synths and vocal combo in typical monotone Maus style

Suicide – Cheree
The original innovators of electronic indie music, New York duo Suicide did it all before everyone else

Doug Hream Blunt – Caribbean Queen
This is such an evocative song, really send you out there into the Caribbean!

Ruins – Elegant Shout
Not sure how I came by this one, it has a few of my favourite things going, freaked out organ drum machines, big synth lines and new waves vocals.

Jaakko Eino Kalevi – I Wann Win
Freak disco at its finest. Jaakko Eino Kalevi, I love this song since I first heard it on Beats In Space almost 10 years ago. One of the all-time great sax solos!

Baba Stiltz – Can’t Help It
Keeping it Scandinavian, Baba Stiltz is another all-time favourite. You never really know what he’s gonna do next, my money is on a country record.

Vanderschrick – Ongehoord
A deep and weird dubbed out droner from Vanderschrick, an 80s referencing post-punk vibe out on the exceptional Stroom label from Germany.

AC Marias – Just Talk
This is the real deal, shoegazing and ethereal pop from Wire collaborator Angela Conway from the mid-80s

Roland Tings – Always Rushing Feat. Mild Minds
Had to include my new one! It pales in comparison to the masterpieces in this playlist, but hopefully, you can hear where I’m coming from with this list of great songs!

Australian trio daste. is comprised of Callum MacDonald, Braxton Tahi & Tyler Harden.

Focusing on the smaller details (with the ‘d’ in daste. standing for detail), their new track, ‘SOBER’ is a summery lo-fi number showcasing simple, yet effective songwriting, and shares the idea that a clear head is always better than a mediocre, intoxicated one.

It’s out now via Mammal Sounds Records.

Malihini – Delusional Boy

There is always an air of romanticism with Italian culture and Italian duo Malihini are no exception to this rule.

Their new single ‘Delusional Boy’ has upbeat drums, neatly undercut by its recurring vocal refrain, “Delusional Boy/Delusional Girl” – the downbeat rejoinder conveyed with a typically euphonious duo vocal melody that juxtaposes between a falsetto male part with baratone-esq female vocals, which all in all, creates an extremely easy-to-listen-to pop track.

Expect their debut album ‘Hopefully, Again’, out on 8 March via Memphis Industries.

An American artist living in France, Hite effortless blends sounds thanks to this move across the Atlantic, as well as travels through Asia.

Portland-based Leo Islo shares his sparkling new single ‘Retrograde Now’.

Born in Santiago, and spending a lot of his youth travelling, Islo appears to have taken his sense of wanderlust onboard when creating his music, which often explores both club and laid back sounds in a nostalgic manner.

Beautifully produced, the song expresses “what it’s like to love someone even after the realization that you have little in common other than the past you share”.

SAFIA – Starlight

Australian trio, SAFIA, portray an endless summer with their music and their new single ‘Starlight’ is no exception.

Speaking on the release, SAFIA say,

“At its core ‘Starlight’ is a song about letting go, and the world that it creates is designed to capture that feeling. In retrospect the song also represents an important shift in perspective, both creatively and personally.”

Continuing to push boundaries, the band has also collaborated with VR/AR artist SUTU on animated single artwork that comes to life with the use of the Eyejack app. Download the EyeJack app HERE, tap ‘SAFIA’ and tap ‘Launch AR’ to watch.

Working with the likes of Alison Wonderland and Peking Duk and having reached over millions of streams, it’s about time SAFIA’s music reaches the British shores.
