Playlist: Tube & Berger

Tube & Berger by Claudio Oliverio

Tube & Berger by Claudio Oliverio

German duo, Tube & Berger (aka Arndt Roerig and Marko Vidovic) have been producing music for a while now, but it’s only recently that they’ve really sparked our interest. Working hard on evolving their sound from pure club grooves to a more ‘live’ focused indietronica styling, they have quite literally blown us away with their new track, ‘We Are All Stars’.

To help you get used to the transition, the guys have put together a playlist. It fuses indie/electronica/dance into one delicious pot.

GusGus – Crossfade (Maceo Plex Remix)
This has been a huge track in our DJ sets for over 2 years now, we wish we had made it!

Moderat – Running
Big respect to our fellow Germans, Moderat are the best live electronic band in the world right now.

Royksopp – What Else Is There? – Trentemoller Remix
Mid Noughties Electro House classic. Sounding just as epically dark and dangerous today.

Mylo – Destroy Rock n Roll
A track to dance and laugh to at the same time.

RÜFÜS - Innerbloom
Kings of the Electronica new breed smashing it with a chilled masterpiece.

Foals – Late Night – Solomun Remix
Foals are an amazing Indie Rock band and with Solomon on the remix, it was always going to be good…and it is!

The Chemical Brothers – Do it Again
Probably our favourite ever band. We could have chosen loads of their tracks.

SOHN – Conrad
Downtempo brilliance. Spiritual and soulful.

The XX – Crystalised
The perfect mix of chiming guitars, indie vocals and electronic beats sensibilities.

Justice VS Simian – We Are Your Friends
Not sure any rock band has made a better rabble rousing festival anthem in recent times.

Röyksopp – Never Ever (Feat. Susanne Sundfør)

Röyksopp

Röyksopp

Norweigian artists, Röyksopp and Susanne Sundfør are no strangers to working together, having collaborated on ‘Running To The Sea’ and ‘Save Me’.

New number, ‘Never Ever’, is a highly danceable, electronic track, seeing Röyksopp return in full force.

“The track has its own cosmos and its own place.” says Svein Berge. “The whole idea of us going away from the whole album concept was that we do have many musical expressions that we want to do,” says Torbjørn. “One of them might be a club track, but we don’t necessarily want to do an album of it. It’s that way with ‘Never Ever’ – we love it, but we don’t need 12 tracks like it.”

Sounds like: Robyn, Digitalism, Fever Ray, Little Boots, Goldfrapp

Leitbur – I Need You

Leitbur

Leitbur

Musical couple, Leitbur (Pronounced ‘Light-brr’) (aka Jaron Widman and Samantha Krzyston), return with ‘I Need You’.

Combining his knowledge in film production and love of music, Widman constructs his songs like his short films; each filled with autobiographical scenes, characters, and the occasional flashback or dream sequence. Widman uses the mood and tone of the 1980’s like a cinematographer, framing each song with care, to tell stories that are in equal parts nostalgic, sweet, and filled with pathos.

Widman began collaborating with Krzyston, an aspiring psychotherapist and vocalist. Their romantic relationship caused Leitbur to become a film with two main characters. Soliloquies became conversations, and many of the warmest, and most painful, moments of their relationship were turned into their own scenes.

‘I Need You,’ the first single from their album, ‘Antique Travelers’.

Sounds like: Depeche Mode, BLSHS, Röyksopp, Tesla Boy, TDeL2, Graingerboy, Chvrches, NINA, Tears for Fears

Kidnap Kid – Stronger / Like You Used To

Kidnap Kid

Kidnap Kid

Kidnap Kid is Sheffield born and bred, DJ and producer, Matt Relton.

The mellow and slightly euphoric ‘Like You Used To’ is cushioned on Kidnap Kid’s double A-side single right next to the atmospheric and lengthier ‘Stronger’.

Kidnap Kid has played this well as there is no declared B side, and quite rightly so as it is pretty hard to choose between the two tracks. We’d recommend serially listening to both; ‘Like You Used To’ at the pre-party and ‘Stronger’ during the party, but the decision is yours.

The singles are released under the umbrella of The Black Butter label (Rudimental, Solomon Grey, Gorgon City).

Sounds like: London Grammar, Disclosure, Erykah Badu, Aluna George, Ronika, Indiana, Rudimental, The XX, Clean Bandit, Röyksopp

Röyksopp – Something In My Heart (feat. Jamie Irrepressible)

Royksopp

Norwegian duo Röyksopp, having somewhat hidden away for the past couple of years, have now announced that they will be officially releasing ‘Running to the Sea’, which features vocals from Susanne Sundfør (who’s vocals feature on M83‘s ‘Oblivion’), with a B-side; brand new track ‘Something in My Heart’, featuring vocals from Jamie McDermott of London-based pop group the Irrepressibles.

Röyksopp have remixed the likes of Depeche Mode, Beck and Kings Of Leon, as well as written music for some of the most exiting female vocalists from Scandinavia, like Robyn, Lykke Li and Karin Dreijer-Andersson (Fever Ray / The Knife).

Last year the duo released their edition of the acclaimed ‘Late Night Tales’ compilation series, which showcased their diverse influences and impeccable taste, with tracks from Tuxedomoon, Vangelis, John Martyn, This Mortal Coil  and Popol Vuh, not to mention a spoken word piece by Benedict Cumberbatch of ‘Dr Who’ and Hollywood movie fame.

‘Running To The Sea’ will be released on Royksopp’s label Dog Triumph, via Wall of Sound and Cooking Vinyl in the UK.

Sounds like; M83, Junior Boys, Pale, Irrepressibles, Antony and the Johnsons

Susanne Sundfør – Among Us

Susanne Sundfør

Susanne Sundfør

Susanne Sundfør is a singer/songwriter from Norway.

Sundfør’s first release dates back to 2006, but it wasn’t until 2012 when she released a collaboration with the Norwegian electronica duo Röyksopp for their track, ‘Running to the Sea‘, that she became noticed outside Norway.

The soundtrack for the film ‘Oblivion’ (composed by M83) was released in April 2013 with the title song featuring Sundfør as the main vocalist.

In June 2013, Sundfør appeared on Maps‘ single ‘A.M.A’, and she is now working on her 6th album.

The Evan McNary-directed video for her new track, ‘Among Us’ follows a group of gypsy-esque ladies taking heroine, drinking milk, and being driven down the highway by some sort of cowboy. The video definitely has some dark 70s vibes in it. Close your eyes now if you’re easily displeased!
