Ben Khan – 2000 Angels

Ben Khan

Big news. Ben Khan returns with the announcement of his debut album (hurrah!) and a self-directed dystopian video for spine-tingling new single ‘2000 Angels’.

The album – set for release in the summer – was produced alongside Flood (PJ Harvey, Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails) and mixed by Spike Stent (Björk, Frank Ocean), with Ben playing every instrument on the record.

Always with a creative hands-on approach, Ben also plans to launch his new interactive website, The Foundation, which offers an insight into the richness and depth of the album’s story.

OTR manages to get the chilled but tense vibe just right with his latest single, ‘Close’, which includes the soulful vocals by Kai Straw.

The 25-year old aerospace engineer-turned-producer uses his mathematical mind as a key component when it comes to his music, producing off-kilter melodies and electronic sounds.

Tanners – Holy Water

Tanners

It wouldn’t be a decent weekly gems feature without some pop in there. This week Tanners is the chosen one.

Tanners is the moniker of New York City-based songwriter and producer Tanner Peterson. Leading the way for women in creative music tech, Tanners has also spoken at TEDxTeen.

Inspired by her childhood love for the beach, ‘Holy Water’ celebrates the beauty and electricity born from allowing yourself to be completely vulnerable and enveloped by the ocean. “It’s a thank you song to the ocean for teaching me to embrace vulnerability,” Tanners says of the track.

Rudie Edwards – Lover Like You

Rudie Edwards

Meet Rudie Edwards, a London-based artist full of sass and bubbling sounds.

As well as creating her own music and attending the renowned BRIT School, she has also written for the likes of CeeLo Green, Erik Hassle, and Beatrice Eli.

The video for her new track, ‘Lover Like You’, is a funk-fuelled bonanza of colour and sexuality. Of the track, Rudie explains,

“Lover Like You” is about knowing what you want from a lover and not being afraid to express it or ask for it and sees the singer dancing with reckless abandon in the midst of a disco tinged glitter party.

“The mission is to wake people up…I want to make some bloody noise that doesn’t sound like all of the other bloody noise out there.”

Sounds like: Jessie Ware, Ronika, ELKKA, Erik Hassle

Exclusive: ROOM8 Playlist

ROOM8

ROOM8

ROOM8 is a Los Angeles based duo composed of Ezra Reich and Nic Johns. They produce ice cold synth pop for late summer nights.

They kindly put together a playlist for us, and we are pleased to say it includes most of the artists already covered on Indietronica at some point!

Giorgio Moroder – From Here to Eternity

The one old classic included on this playlist. The godfather of synth/dance/pop/disco.

Noonie Bao – Pyramids

Much of the modern music we listen to is Scandinavian. Great track from Noonie who writes with Charlie XCX but we like the Kate Bush meets Bjork quirkiness of her voice and vibe.

ROOM8 (Feat. King Deco) – No Hard Feelings

Our single from summer 2015. An ice cold breakup song over a sunny beat.

Ji Nilsson – Nothing

Ji is one of our favorite Swedish singers. Heartbreak Free is one of her best, but Nothing, off her latest EP, is a heart wrenching honest and gorgeous song which always cuts us to the core.

Erik Hassle – Talk About It

One of our favourite modern male vocalists. Minimal and perfect jam.

Kate Boy – Self Control

Kate and Markus are friends of ours and fantastic musicians. This one is one of our favorites they have done. Peter Gabriel beat with Knife-esque vox. Perfect.

Elliphant – Step Down

The latest from our homegirl Elli. This one should be massive. Perfect piece of Caribbean electro pop. “You’re hot, I’m cold thats why I thought we could make a cloud but you can’t get no higher, fuck it, your not my type at all”.

Electric Youth and ROOM8 – Without You

The song we co-wrote and produced with Electric Youth for their debut album Innerworld. About imminent loss.

Niki & The Dove – So Much it Hurts

The new jam from them. Perfect synths, echoes of Fleetwood Mac.

Foxes – Body Talk

A song that didn’t get nearly enough love in 2015. Any music with the words “Body” and “Talk” in it is amazing whether it’s Robyn, Tove Lo, Kix, Ratt, The Deele or, in this case, Foxes.

Whilst we have you, have a listen to ROOM8’s new track with Christina (aka Little Boots).

Sounds like: St Etienne, Aeroplane, Lindstrøm, Ronika, RAC

Ekkah – Small Talk

EKKAH

EKKAH

No remixes this time, just disco-based ‘Small Talk’ from Ekkah; an illuminating duo from Birmingham, comprising of Rebecca and Rebekah.

The single was produced by Tourist and is their first release since being signed to Sony/RCA.

The track is an emotive and neon-lit blend of arching melodies, colorful synths, reverberant handclaps and disco groove, with a video to match.

Sounds like: Goldroom, Shalamar, Chela, Shura, Jess Glynne, Ronika, Tourist

RAC – Magic Hour Ft Little Boots

Continuing with his monthly singles, and putting the worlds to rights, it’s the new collab between Grammy nominated RAC and British gem, Little Boots.

True to form, the track is full of whirling synths and delightful vocals.
