Cautious Clay says, “‘Cheesin” is a song that I made with some really talented artist friends almost entirely remotely. Now that most of us are having to self-isolate, we wanted to help encourage and facilitate creativity as well as peace of mind for other artists, musicians and touring professionals who have been affected by the pandemic, so we are donating 100% of the net profits from every stream and download of ‘Cheesin” to the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund.”

bülow – Get Stupid

bülow

German-born and Toronto-based pop-iconoclast, bülow shares the visuals for her single ‘Get Stupid’, out via Wax Records/Republic Records/Universal Music Canada.

The track, taken off the JUNO Award winner’s latest EP ‘Crystalline’ released earlier this year and is produced by Mike Wise, is the kind of quirky pop that the commercial world is embracing at the moment.

Speaking about the video, bülow explains,

“When I was younger, I wanted to be an inventor, to create things. I think everybody strives for the feeling of self-importance, trying to find their ways to be remembered. My character created a flying device, it didn’t work out, but that wasn’t the end.”

Stats – Lose It

Stats - Lose It

UK-born band Stats embrace spontaneity by transfusing genres in their music, such as 70’s art rock, 80’s synth grooves, and cosmic disco-pop.

The new single ‘Lose It’ is about temptations to simply vanish into thin air, a desire that most of us have probably faced in life. Let’s hope Stats don’t disappear anytime soon.

Expect their ‘Other People’s Lives’ album shortly.

Sounds like: Arcade Fire, Pet Shop Boys, Nimmo

Dagny – Fools Gold

Dagny

DAGNY has teamed up with BØRNS on ‘Fools Gold’.

We weren’t sure whether any track this year could top ‘Backbeat’ (which we still play at least once a day!), but it’s a pretty darn good attempt.

Written with Tommy English and DeLacey, ‘Fool’s Gold’ is a hugely confident second offering from the Norwegian songstress, with a new dimension from BØRNS.

“The song is about looking back on a relationship and realising that maybe it was not quite what you first thought. And the big question you ask yourself: if you will ever have that feeling again.” explains Dagny.

Her EP will be released on 4 August via Republic Records.

The Naked and Famous – Show Review

The Naked And Famous

The Naked And Famous

Indietronica popped down to the Concorde 2 in Brighton to watch New Zealander’s The Naked And Famous, with support from Sons & Lovers.

Upon entering the venue, there was a intoxicating smell of sweets, which we soon realised was not fruit cider. It is safe to say that TNAF attract a young crowd, however this should not dissuade any potential, ‘older’ listeners from attending their shows. TNAF has a lot to offer all ages.

Proceedings were kicked off with the epic ‘I Kill Giants’. TNAF continued to play an eclectic mix of old and new tracks, including ‘A Stillness’, ‘Punching in a Dream’, ‘All of This’, ‘Waltz’, and ‘What We Want’.

Thom Powers and Alisa Xayalith presented real chemistry on stage and remained ever-humble, getting the crowd singing along to title track from their latest sophomore album, ‘In Rolling Waves’, and swaying to ‘Hearts Like Ours’.

Events were encored with the crowd’s favourite, ‘Young Blood’.

TNAF has expanded their critically acclaimed sophomore full-length, ‘In Rolling Waves’ with a special deluxe edition available on iTunes now via Fiction. The deluxe edition includes remixes by Sombear, Ducky, Big Black Delta, and MS MR. In addition, the band enlisted the talents of The Chain Gang of 1974, Space Above, and Strange Babes to cut covers of select songs, each act adding their own flair and fire to the music in the process.

A special shout out to Sons & Lovers who gave an excellent supporting performance.

Sounds Like; Fenech-Soler, Metric, Chvrches, Grouplove, The Jezabels, California Wives, Brotherun, Claire, Broods, The Chain Gang of 1974, Jimmy Eat World, BROODS

Lorde – Royals

Lorde

Lorde

Sultry 16 year old New Zealand-born Lorde (aka Ella Yelich-O’Connor) has been making waves across the internet since the release of her debut EP ‘The Love Club EP’ in March 2013 via Universal Music NZ. The EP was put out with plenty of mystery but no marketing or publicity. It paid off with first single ‘Royals’ occupying the top spot in the iTunes singles chart, both in New Zealand and in Australia.

Fans of Lorde include Grimes and Sky Ferreira and there has been great enthusiasm and endorsement from influential blogs sharing the understatedly true-to-life video for the track, with its stark echoes of Larry Clarke’s cult film ‘Kids’. We especially love the subtle plug at the end of the video for her second single from the EP, ‘Tennis Court’.

Label buddy, The Weeknd is the latest to give ‘Royals’ the remix treatment.

Lorde will release her debut album, ‘Pure Heroine’, on September 30th 2013. The Weeknd will release his sophomore album, ‘Kiss Land’, on September 10th 2013.

Sounds like: The Knife, Marina & The Diamonds, Sky Ferreira, Grimes
