MOOKHI – Foul Play (Feat. Billy Fox)

MOOKHI

MOOKHI

Meet MOOKHI, the musical project of Australian, Olympia Henshaw.

She’s teamed up with Sydney producer and musician, Billy Fox, for her debut release called ‘Foul Play’.

‘Foul Play’ is essentially an electronic track, but we also enjoy the abstract piano chords, which MOOKHI said she composed during a flight in which she had very little sleep.

It is taken from her ‘Lost & Found’ EP, out on 24 February.

Sounds like: James Blake, Sam Smith, Jai Paul, Ben Khan, Crozet, Brotherun, One Bit, Until The Ribbon Breaks, TDeL2, James Vincent McMorrow

Sivu – The Nile (Feat. Rae Morris)

Sivu

Sivu

Time for a new track from Sivu featuring label buddy, Rae Morris.

‘The Nile’ was produced by Charlie Andrew (Alt-J) and whilst it feels quite romantic as a duet, Sivu wrote the track around the idea of watching someone close to you pass away slowly (and everything you’d want to say to someone you’ve spent your whole life with beforehand). He asked Rae to sing on it after the pair toured together last year.

‘The Nile’ is the double-A-side to forthcoming single ‘Sleep’; taken from Sivu’s debut album ‘Something On High’.

Sounds like: Rae Morris, Bombay Bicycle Club, Alt-J, Fiona Apple, Boxed In, SOHN, James Blake, One Bit, Bipolar Sunshine

Fine Animal – Old Dollar

Fine Animal by Josh Smith Photography

Fine Animal by Josh Smith Photography

Fine Animal is a Columbus-based dreampop trio comprising of KC Wilder, Lucy Oaks, and Kelan Gilbert. They formed in 2013.

Describing themselves as “indie electro, dream pop, glo-fi, chill wave music for ice skating”, we would agree. Although new track ‘Old Dollar’ was a creation based on a traditional work song ‘Old Dollar Mamie’ (which was recorded in 1947 at Lambert Camp at the Mississippi State Penitentiary), it is deep electro full of futuristic beats and halo vocals.

Sounds like: One Bit, Phantogram, Will Heard, Broods, Alex Clare, AGYO, Keep Shelly in Athens, Ballet School

Oyinda - Restless

Oyinda – Restless

Oyinda is a Nigeria born but NYC based songwriter/producer/singer. She crafts every aspect of her music from scratch, which is shown in the intricate production of each one of her tracks.

Latest track, ‘Restless’ is the fourth and final track taken from her self-released debut EP, ‘Before The Fall’. ‘Restless’ is the perfect combination of Oyinda’s truly soulful voice with consistent electro beats.

Purchase ‘Before The Fall EP’ on iTunes.

One Bit – Interview & Limitless

One Bit - Limitless

One Bit – Limitless

One Bit is a pop house duo. Since writing about One Bit back in April, they have continued to grow in popularity, already becoming the most played act via BBC Introducing in 2014.

Indietronica had quite a humourous a chat with the duo.

Tell us a bit about One Bit.
We’re an electronic production duo consisting of Jonty Howard and Joe Murphy. We spend the vast majority of our time locked away in our home studio in Hertfordshire making all kinds of music.

When will you reveal your true identities?
Never! We’re like batman………….

Sum up your sound in 3 words.
Big Bitchin Bass.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?
We like to take influence from anything and everything so they’re pretty wide and varied! It’s a conscious decision that we’ve made so that we can stay creative with what we are doing – we often find the most interesting influences come from outside your own genre (if you can pick one!).

We love discovering new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to at the moment?
We also love finding new music! So much so that we have a monthly Spotify playlist where we talk about 10 new tracks each month – (One Bit Presents). But our two most played artists this month are probably Bombay Bicycle Club & Raleigh Ritchie.

We’re loving Bombay Bicycle Club – ‘Luna’. It gets stuck on the speakers in any downtime we have! Then Raleigh Ritchie – ‘Stronger Than Ever’ has been a killer find too, it’s always a great feeling when something you have been onto for a while starts blowing up on national radio!

What is next for you? Are you planning a tour?
Next in store for us is the release of our new single ‘Limitless’ which comes out on the 28th July with a whole host of remixes that we’re really excited about. Following that we’ve got a few festivals in the diary, Rhythms of the World (3rd Aug), UV festival (9th Aug) and Boardmasters (10th Aug).

We have no imminent tour plans, but have just got a really exciting booking agent on board so there are a lot of things coming together behind the scenes! We’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date as and when the pen hits the diary.

New track ‘Limitless’ is full of juicy bass lines. Listen below:

Sounds like: Clean Bandit, Le Youth, SOHN, Will Heard, Disclosure, Gorgon City, Lorde

Billy Fox – Mystery

Billy Fox

Billy Fox

The brand new video for ‘Mystery’ from Sydney producer, writer and musician Billy Fox is out and it explores a sci-fi retro romance.

Despite describing his sound as new-age R&B, the video isn’t a typical R&B style video. The tracks fits itself neatly in the seemingly simple (and quite amusing) video.

Purchase the track from iTunes here.

Sounds like: James Blake, Sam Smith, Jai Paul, Ben Khan, Crozet, Brotherun, One Bit, Until The Ribbon Breaks, TDeL2, James Vincent McMorrow
