Amethysts – How It Is / Imitate me

Amethysts

Suffolk school friends turned band mates Amethysts release double A-side ‘How It Is / Imitate Me’

Amethysts have worked with esteemed producers Shuta Shinoda (Daughter, Ghostpoet) and Matt Miligan to create two tracks that are looped by energetic synths, harmonies and guitars – the perfect indietronica combination.

Speaking on ‘Imitate me’, the duo state;

“Imitate me delves into the cut throat world of the music industry. This is our first diss track. It alludes to the competitive side of the industry, and how often ego’s get in the way, and bands try to get one up on each other, instead of working together to make the scene a nicer place.”

Misty Mtn – We’ll Call It Even

Misty Mtn

There’s a gentle buzz surrounding Brooklyn boy-girl duo Misty Mtn. Comprised of Morissa Trunzo and Lucas Segall, Misty Mtn create “dark mountain pop”, which we can only assume, judging by their music, means enchanting synth-pop and organic harmonies.

Their new single ‘We’ll Call It Even’ is co-produced by Ariel Loh (Yoke Lore), illuminates a narrative that at its core is about the age-old adage: “fake it till you make it”. The band had this to say about the song:

“‘We’ll Call it Even’ is about the hustle of being a creative person in a city you can’t afford. We started the band after meeting in a restaurant where we both worked so this one is extremely personal for us. It’s about the joys of making something out of nothing and remembering where you came from.”

IDER – Mirror

IDER by Lottie Turner

IDER by Lottie Turner

London duo IDER today share the inspiring visuals for ‘Mirror,’ a breakup anthem reviewing the loss of self-identity following a breakup, which almost always ends in a triumphant celebration of your own personal strength.

Shot by Lily Rose Thomas on Bromley High Street, the visuals are simplistic and honest, perfectly echoing the vulnerability of the song and the instinctive harmony of the girls.

Birch – Same Colors

Birch

Brooklyn-based, electro-pop duo Birch share ‘Same Colors’.

We’ve come to expect hip-hop beats, lush vocal samples, and groovy synths from Birch, and this track does not disappoint.

A call for change and to rethink your current empathic standards, ‘Same Colors’ is a political pop song.

Sloan Peterson – 105

Sloan Peterson

Introducing Sloan Peterson (aka 24 year-old Joannah Jackson).

Based in Sydney, Sloan Peterson has grown up recording songs, filming music videos and playing vintage records with her sister and friends. Her music is a nod to the garage rock music of the 50’s.

The video for her single, ‘105’ is the first to be shot in the historic building of The Strand Arcade since scenes from David Bowie‘s music video for ‘Let’s Dance’ and features Sloan Peterson as well as a cast of alumni dancers from the Australian Ballet School and Sydney Dance Company.

This is her debut single taken from her upcoming debut self-titled EP, out on 14 July via Mirror Records.

Everywhere – Man Up

Everywhere

UK based band Everywhere share their bright new number, ‘Man Up’, which features vocals by Swedish singer/songwriter Rebecca Nohr.

The band’s name is inspired by the quote “Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere” by former Cosmopolitan editor Helen Gurley Brown. Having already played the NME Awards alongside Django Django and Palma Violets, and supporting the Kaiser Chiefs, we suspect Everywhere fit into the latter part of category.

Hardly casual, the track considers what it’s like to be a man in the modern world, delving into themes about unfulfilled expectations.

Expect an album later this year.

Bright Sparks – Slow Motion

Bright Sparks

Bright Sparks

Bright Sparks share another catchy and shimmering electro pop number, called ‘Slow Motion’.

It perfectly encapsulates that feeling when a relationship makes you feel numb and spaced out, perhaps because one person wants more from it than the other.

Alongside the awesome ‘Wildfire‘, ‘Slow Motion’ appears on their debut EP, out later in the year.

Sounds like: Disclosure, Years & Years, Aluna George, Salt Ashes, Lxury, LA Priest, TCTS, Karma Kid, Le Youth, Moon Boots, Friend Within, Feist, Ben Khan, Oh Wonder

Bright Sparks – Wildfire

Bright Sparks - Wildfire

Bright Sparks – Wildfire

Whilst the sound of Bright Sparks might be familiar (they’ve been featured on tracks with Sam Feldt and MÖWE), ‘Wildfire’ is their first ever solo release.

Already working with high flyers (the track has also been produced by Years & Years producer Andy Smith (aka Lxury)), ‘Wildfire’ offers that flying electro pop that we love at Indietronica.

Bright Sparks will release their EP in early 2017.
