Oscar and the Wolf – Breathing

Oscar and The Wolf

Belgium artist, Oscar and the Wolf is a bit of a split personality – one half daydreamer, one half a lonely animal – so it’s not wonder his music reflects this.

In the video for ‘Breathing’, his skin is made from diamonds reflecting a sexy sadness for creatures of the night.

‘Breathing’ is available now via Neon Gold / Play It Again Sam.

Sounds like: Ben Howard, Fever Ray, The Weeknd, SOHN, Phoenix

LPX – Tightrope

LPX

LPX

LPX is the new solo project of Lizzy Plapinger (frontwoman of MS MR and co-founder of Neon Gold Records).

Lizzy has just released her debut track, ‘Tightrope’. It may feel like a daunting prospect for most, but for Lizzy, she means business,

“I’m here to assert myself – harder, louder, and stronger – as a woman and an artist. A force to be reckoned with, wrapped in amplified distortion, emotion and chaos. To create music that RIPS through your speakers and shakes you to your core, the kind of music that gets into your blood, takes hold and doesn’t let go.”

Fighting talk, and we like it.

Sounds like: MS MR, Christine and The Queens, Austra, Karen O, Florence + The Machine, Metric

The Knocks – Trouble Feat. Absofacto

The Knocks - Trouble

The Knocks – Trouble

Noisy New York electronic dance duo and remix gurus, The Knocks, have shared their summery track ‘Trouble’, featuring Absofacto.

Of the track, The Knocks say,

“We originally wrote “Trouble” with Abso in NYC at our studio as a slow, piano ballad, at 90 bpm. The idea was to write something that felt melancholy and classic. After we laid down the original idea, he left and we started experimenting with it – treating it like a sample – totally chopping it up and flipping it. This is the same way we approach some of our earlier songs like “Dancing With The DJ” and “Make it Better” so it was cool to go back to that formula while making a sound that was new and fresh.”

‘Trouble’ is out on Big Beat/Neon Gold and is the first single from their forthcoming EP ‘TESTIFY’, released on 3 February.

Great Good Fine Ok – Body Diamond EP

Great Good Fine Ok

Great Good Fine Ok

Great Good Fine OK (GGFO) is Brooklyn-based Luke and John.

Despite the release of ‘You’re The One For Me’ being welcomed with open arms by music lovers and blogs alike, GGFO never really got the recognition they deserved, but fear not they are back with an incredible EP and it thankfully includes ‘You’re The One For Me’ as the introductory track.

The second track on the ‘Body Diamond’ EP is ‘Not Going Home’; a twinkling pop gem perfect for fans of Passion Pit and Pistol Shrimp.

Third track ‘By My Side’ replicates a funky 80’s jam full of synth sax.

In comparison, the last track on the EP is more of a mellow one. ‘Say It All’ is familiarly Yeasayer-esque but with a twinge of tasty R&B in there.

The ‘Body Diamond’ EP is out today via Neon Gold Records and can be purchased on iTunes.

VÉRITÉ – Weekend

VÉRITÉ

VÉRITÉ

New York City’s talented resident, VÉRITÉ is back.

Following on from her debut single, ‘Strange Enough‘ is her second track to date, ‘Weekend’. With catchy and emotive lyrics, this track further demonstrates Verite’s raw pop talent.

“Conceptually it came from a snapshot of a scenario,” explains VÉRITÉ. “An old friend of mine lived on this quiet, dead end residential street with bright florescent lights. I had the image of us falling down in the stillness of the scene. From the first line, the song winds up being an ode to the nostalgia of how, despite how sick we were or how insane things get, we can take moments from the craziest times and glorify them as being absolutely perfect.”

She continues “Weekend winds up sitting in a weird place for me, caught between the exhilaration of ‘you could bring me to life’ and the reality that we were only fooling ourselves into thinking we were alive while we distract ourselves from reality.”

Fans in the New York area can check her out her live performance debut at Neon Gold‘s POPSHOP NYC supporting ASTR on 18 September 2014. You can purchase tickets HERE
