Aggressive Swans – Every Teardrop

Aggressive Swans

Some songs, while being well made and well put together, just don’t do it, they don’t hit you, they don’t catch you and pull you in. Some grow on you and with time give you more pleasure than you initially expected but some you feel so disconnected from that you just don’t listen again.

Sadly we’re all part of this world where immediacy counts, people need instant gratification from everything in their lives and if it isn’t instant then it’s on to the next. Weirdly sometimes a song that could be classed as timeless and a song that eventually becomes irritating and subsequently stale will both share that ability to grab you and pull you in to it’s enchanting rhythms from the very start.

‘Every Teardrop’ by the Munich-based duo Aggressive Swans is one of those songs. There is something about its simple, yet driving baseline that really appeals. It has a really simple and understated quality with enough poppy appeal to keep you humming the melody for quite a while.

It’s definitely pop, but it’s got more of an edge than your run of the mill pop song. The instrumentation says 80’s but the feel, fluidity and and space between the melody says more 70’s pop. Either way if you’ll either be drawn into it’s immediate pop charm and subsequently find it either timeless or irritating after a while or you won’t. We suspect we’re going to be closer to the first rather than the latter.

SAINT WKND – Golden

SAINT WKND

SAINT WKND

Beautiful vocals and progressive production form SAINT WKND‘s ‘Golden’.

The track features the Australian indie group Hoodlem and has just enough amount of trip-hop elements.

Speaking of his inspiration behind the track, he explains: “I woke up at 2am and had an urgent feeling to make music. I stared writing and finished the song by 8am. ‘Golden’s’ instrumental was done, but I wanted to add vocals to it. I knew about the indie group Hoodlem and luckily when I was on tour in Australia in 2016 I met them in Melbourne and we recorded the vocals in their home studio. It’s a very honest song and I hope people will enjoy it.”

It’s out now via Ultra Records/ Nothing Else Matters, and is the first single from his debut EP ‘Golden Youth’.

Claire – Broken Promised Land

Claire

Claire

Describing themselves as somewhere between synthpop, electronic-pop, half-time beats, hip-hop and indie, Claire intially statrted off as three Munich-based young musicians and producers; Matthias Hauck, Nepomuk Heller and Florian Kiermaier. Singer/songwriter, Josie-Claire Bürkle joined at the beginning of 2012 and a drummer known as Fridl was later recruited for their live shows. The brilliant band we now know as Claire was finally formed!

We have ‘Broken Promised Land’ on repeat in the Indietronica office and you can thank BMW for introducing this track to us, as it has been featured on the advert for their new electric cars.

We aren’t really sure where to begin. This track is just so good. With its typically German-driving industrial beat and melodic vocals from Josie-Claire Bürkle, this is the ideal indietronica track that will make you feel sky high.

For good measure, we’ve posted the incredible Passion Pit remix of ‘Games’ below. It has also been added to our November playlist.

You can buy the ‘Broken Promised Land’ EP on iTunes now. Or we strongly recommend you bite the bullet and go for the whole album, ‘The Great Escape (special Edition)’, which was released in September 2013 and is also available for purchase on iTunes.

Sounds like: College, I BREAK HORSES, Bastille, Of Monsters and Men, CHRVCHES, Mausi, The Naked and Famous, Ladyhawke
