Following the extremely well-received release with Lord Silva, School of X releases ‘Bad Love’.

Inspired by Eks-skolen – an anti-establishment art collective that was based in Copenhagen in the 1960s – the emo-tinged song by School of X’s Rasmus Littauer (MØ, Liss, Clairo) is about the loss of trust or faith.

Tigerpunsh

Born from a remote connection via Instagram and a mutual love of big cats, London-based Welsh/Finnish electro-pop duo Rochelle and Vee are Tigerpunsh.

Brand new onto the scene, their single ‘Shade’ holds a bursting energy throughout, with delicate Eastern synths and experimental pop elements. A great start to what could be a very exciting future for the girls!

Cubicolor – Wake Me Up

Cubicolour is a duo composed of Amsterdam-based producers Ariaan Olieroock and Peter Kriek, and British singer-songwriter Tim Digby-Bell.

The second single ‘Wake Me Up’ – taken from their second attempt of a sophomore album, ‘Hardly A Day, Hardly A Night’, via Anjunadeep – explores the transient sense of identity in an uncertain, yet alluring manner.

Despite a period of losses – friends, loves, health, an album and each other – Cubicolor battled through and the result is an album that is undeniably true to themselves as a band.

SCHWARZ - Outside Looking In

SCHWARZ is the project of Meyer de Voltaire, who is also lead singer of indie band VOLTAIRE. The name means ‘black’ in English, and so it’s no surprise that his music fits nicely into a dark electronica realm.

Cinematic, provocative, complete with orchestral spheres with electronic beats, united by rare courage to great emotions, to feel self-indulgent.

The video for ‘Outside looking in’ outlines four characters, each at that fragile point in their lives: driven by love and the pressure to perform and searching for acceptance on the edge between breaking and breaking out. Watch below.

Francis Novotny – The Wire

Sonic production leads the way for Francis Novotny‘s new single ‘The Wire’.

It’s a brooding, electro-soul song by the Swedish multi-instrumentalist that is extremely reminiscent of Jack Garratt or Asgeir, and captures that addictive quality of a nonetheless-toxic relationship, and the feeling (says Francis) “when a person leaves you hanging on without answers – and you know you should get out of it – but you keep winding back towards them.”

Dead Sea is a four-piece French band who craft dreamy and magnetic post-pop songs.

The Rare Occasions – Mercy Mercy

It’s not often we see decent indie rock coming out of the US, and we wouldn’t blame you for thinking this foursome going by the name of The Rare Occasions is British.

Their new single ‘Mercy Mercy’ is pure garage rock – rough around the edges, but fully refreshing to see due to the saturated market of pristine pop tunes.

Playlist: Tube & Berger

German duo, Tube & Berger (aka Arndt Roerig and Marko Vidovic) have been producing music for a while now, but it’s only recently that they’ve really sparked our interest. Working hard on evolving their sound from pure club grooves to a more ‘live’ focused indietronica styling, they have quite literally blown us away with their new track, ‘We Are All Stars’.

To help you get used to the transition, the guys have put together a playlist. It fuses indie/electronica/dance into one delicious pot.

This has been a huge track in our DJ sets for over 2 years now, we wish we had made it!

Foals – Late Night – Solomun Remix
Foals are an amazing Indie Rock band and with Solomon on the remix, it was always going to be good…and it is!

The Chemical Brothers – Do it Again
Probably our favourite ever band. We could have chosen loads of their tracks.

SOHN – Conrad
Downtempo brilliance. Spiritual and soulful.

The XX – Crystalised
The perfect mix of chiming guitars, indie vocals and electronic beats sensibilities.

Justice VS Simian – We Are Your Friends
Not sure any rock band has made a better rabble rousing festival anthem in recent times.

My favourite song for training. Like the vibe, BPM, synths, tone and vocals. Best album of 2015.

I just love how Com Truise mixes his drums. Tone reference at all points.

Interview: RÜFÜS

Sydney-based band, RÜFÜS, are back with a new video and a cool remix of ‘Be With You’

Considering RÜFÜS tour non stop, we were pretty lucky to tie them down for an interview. Unfortunately, we still haven’t gotten to the bottom of the name difference in North America and the rest of the world…

Hi RÜFÜS, we are huge fans! For those of you who don’t know you yet, tell us a bit more about yourself and how you all got into music.

Calling the band RÜFÜS was a decision we made because we liked the way it sounded foreign to us, and also because it was quite symmetrical on paper, which we liked also. However, we didn’t think that most people would assume RÜFÜS is the name of the singer in the band. We’ve been trying to get people to realise we are a 3 piece live act for the past few years. They don’t get it even when they come to a show.

Why do you call yourselves RÜFÜS du Sol in North America, but RÜFÜS in the rest of the world?

Our attorney has advised that legal reasons is the appropriate answer.

Describe your sound in three words.

Never ending touring.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?

So many places. They are different for each of us. We listen to a lot of contemporary music to get inspired. Recently, we’ve been listening to a lot of Radiohead, Moderat, HAELOS, Bob Moses, Leon Vynehall etc. In the past it was Booka Shade in a massive way. They are the godfathers.

Friend Within has just released a remix of your track, ‘Be With You’. How did that come about?

We’ve wanted him to work on a remix for a while.

You are playing your biggest show to date in London in October. Tell UK fans why this will this be such a great show!

We’ve heard the venue is special. The first night sold out so we’ve announced another show, so we’re always in a very good mood when we get to do 2 shows back to back without driving, flying somewhere in between. It’s a real treat for us so we’ll make sure we are good to those who made it possible 😉

We love new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to?

Answered this one above. But, Anderson Paak and Blood Orange have really nailed it this year.

Apparat – Black Water

Apparat

Apparat (aka Sascha Ring) is an electronic producer from Germany, who is now based in Berlin. He is also co-owner of electronic German Record label, Shitkatapult Records.

Apparat has collaborated with a series of artists such as BPitch founder and fellow electronic producer, Ellen Allien, in 2003 on the album ‘Berlinette’, and again in 2006 on the album ‘Orchestra of Bubbles’. He also hooked up with one half of Modeselektor to form the electronic supergroup Moderat.

In 2011, he signed with Mute Records, where he released ‘The Devil’s Walk’, named after a political poem by romantic English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley.

Despite a number of his tracks being featured in various TV shows and films, Apparat is still reasonably unknown in the mainstream music scene, although it is likely a lot of people have come across his music without realising it.

We may be 2 years late, but we still absolutely adore the track ‘Black Water’. The track is as epic as something M83 would produce and a far cry from Apparat’s techno roots. Who would have thought it would be so mesmerising watching sturdy assembles of items being filmed in a candlelit setting. The smoking items are likely to tip at any point, but every dusty relic neatly has its place.

The IDM composer has since taken a more orchestral and ambient approach with his latest album, ‘Kreig Und Frieden (Music For Theatre)’, which is now out via Mute Records. The album is made up of tracks composed for a German theatre production of Tolstoy’s ‘War and Peace’.

Whether this new direction is ephemeral remains unknown, but that is one of qualities we love about Apparat.

In September this year, he was unfortunately injured in a motorcycle accident with his girlfriend in Berlin, suffering a multiple leg fracture and postponing his tour with Moderat until January 2014. We wish him a speedy recovery.
