Playlist: Milky Chance

Milky Chance by Anthony Molina

Milky Chance by Anthony Molina

High school friends turned Billboard charting duo, Milky Chance have been on our radar for some time now, so we figured it was about time they did a playlist for us.

It’s perfect to listen to whilst you’re sipping on your morning coffee (or something stronger, if you’d prefer).

ROSALÍA – Delirio de Grandeza

She is just overall so good and really is one of the most powerful female pop artists around right now.

Rodrigo Amarante – Tardei

Such a good Songwriter, with beautiful Melodies. So raw and honest.

James Blake – To The Last

A master of perfection and detail. So much love for his music and dedication, and also as a singer he just never stops getting better and better.

Parcels – Tideuprightnow

Super sick band based in Berlin. Makes your hips go round and lovely harmonies you‘ll hear them sing.

Harry Styles – As It Was

One of the Greatest right now. His new album is a real masterpiece and shows his talent and variety in music.

Fred again.. – Kyle (i found you)

Such good vibes and awesome productions. Really made us dance in times when there was no real dancing together.

Wallners – All Again

Really fell in love with the melodies of this song, such a vibe.

Charlotte Day Wilson – If I Could

She is such a great performer and this song in particular made us shiver when we saw it!

C. Tangana – Demasiadas Mujeres

Watch his performance at NPR Tiny Desk Sessions – unbelievable and by far the best one ever on there!

Stromae – L‘enfer

His music is so powerful and he really is a maestro of transition heavy topics/feeling into danceable music.

Listen below to Christan Löffler‘s remix of Milky Chance’s ‘Unknown Song’ featuring another high school friend, Paulina Eisenberg.

Sounds like: Will Heard, KYKO, Paul Simon, Jagwar Ma

36Birds – BOY

36Birds

Queer artist 36Birds wants us to fall in love with rave again, and his new single ‘BOY’ does just that.

Interpolating Underworld’s iconic ‘Born Slippy’ and underscoring it with a tough kickdrum while also referencing Bronski Beat’s ‘Hit That Perfect Beat’, his vocals, seduced in autotune, fuse heart-on-sleeve R&B with rave. In a bid to give something back, 36birds wanted his fans to receive it as a free download, which you can get below.

Sounds like: LSDXOXO, serpentwithfeet, Frank Ocean, The Weeknd, Britney Spears

Phoebe Green – Make It Easy

Phoebe Green

24 year-old Manchester rock chic Phoebe Green releases ‘Make It Easy’ on Chess Club Records. Bang on trend, Green is establishing herself as one of the UK’s leading contemporary lyricists.

The Ology’s – IJWICHTY (I Just Wish I Could Have Told You)

The Ology’s

Introducing The Ology’s, a five-piece indie pop/rock band from the UK.

Echoes of 60’s sentiments, their hazy new single ‘IJWICHTY (I Just Wish I Could Have Told You)’ is a psychedelic journey to a slow-rock, retro world.

Sounds like: Fleetwood Mac, Kings of Leon, The Libertines

Milky Chance – Colorado (Icarus Remix)

Icarus

Those who have been reading the blog for a while, know that we don’t often include remixes on the site but we had to share Bristol based producers Icarus‘ new remix of Milky Chance‘s single ‘Colorado’.

It’s taken from the German indie superstar duo’s surprise mixtape, ‘Trip Tape,’ via their own independent record label, Muggelig Records. They’ve also just been nominated for “Best Band” at the German radio award 1live Krone, alongside artists including ÄTNA.

Icarus transform the single into their own world of euphoric synths and downtempo electronic-inspired rhythms and grooves, making this a standout remix.

Sounds like: Bicep, Maribou State, Bonobo, Will Heard, KYKO, Jagwar Ma

Sugarcane – Bethnal Green Blues

Sugarcane

Comprised of Robin French (Cuckoo) and Antonia Thomas (Misfits, Lovesick), these two creatives write seductive bossa nova music paired with calypso pop sensibilities that would fit well on the soundtrack of ‘The End of the F***ing World’.

On the motivation behind Bethnal Green Blues, Robin states,

“Sometimes you write a sad song from a happy moment. This came to me while I was flying to South America to see a girl I’d fallen for. It’s about the emotional ice age after a romance fails, but it was written as that ice melted under the Argentine sun..”

Sounds like: Nouvelle Vague, Men I Trust

Dirty Nice – Always Summer

Dirty Nice

Forget those summer blues.

Mysterious UK-based duo, Dirty Nice, make a positive point in new single – it’s always summer, somewhere.

Gavin Haley – Sad Season

Gavin Haley

From summer season to ‘Sad Season’ with former professional cyclist Gavin Haley‘s latest single.

While competing with the national cycling team, Haley suffered an injury that resulted in a collapsed lung, setting back his travel by several months. During his recovery, he explored and found inspiration in Europe’s underground music scene, becoming enamored with energetic live performances filled with a grit and energy.

Starting with a simple West Coast-inspired guitar riff, ‘Sad Season’ soon picks up and exposes determined pop and R&B.

Sounds like: Zayn Malik, Frank Ocean, Ed Sheeran

ROYAL – Vessel

ROYAL

Canadian songstress ROYAL debuts with ‘Vessel’, the first of six new tracks that appear on her upcoming album, ‘Heart of Shadows’.

Covering the topic of heartbreak, loss of identity and raw self-reflection, this is electro-pop at its finest in 2018.

Speaking about ‘Vessel,’ ROYAL says,

“This song is about heartbreak – having to let go of someone you love, and then realizing the emptiness and loss of identity that ensues. I wrote this song it while trying to find myself after getting lost within a relationship for many years and then feeling shattered by the loss of a love I thought would last a lifetime.”

Sounds like: VÉRITÉ, Lana Del Rey, Evvy, Noosa, Dominique, The xx

Twitter | Facebook | SoundCloud | Instagram

Von Sell – Scene Of A Crime

Von Sell

Last but not least, our favourite breakthrough act – self-taught producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Von Sell.

After a bout of vocal pain and subsequent treatment, we are pleased to say that Von Sell is on the mend and returning to our stereos with ‘Scene OF A Crime’.

Taken from his forthcoming sophomore EP, ‘Digital Sleep’, the song reflects on unrequited love, but, due to its uptempo nature, it will ultimately leave a taste of confusion in your mouth because you can’t help but dance despite the disconcerting subject matter.

Sounds like: Summer Heart, Hazel English, Teen Daze, Peter Gabriel, Alt-J, Thomas Azier

Milky Chance – Doing Good

Milky Chance

Milky Chance

It’s always good to hear that some of our favourite bands are doing well, and Milky Chance are sharing that fact with the visuals for ‘Doing Good’.

The video follows Milky Chance as they explore some pretty desolate streets, planting ‘Doing Good’ stickers across the town. A way of escaping the reality of the situation, perhaps.

Fans will be able to watch an interactive documentary which follows Milky Chance in the studio where they recorded their album, ‘Blossom’. The “Blossomentary” will include interactive features such as being able become the virtual sound mixer in the room whilst the band performs new track ‘Doing Good’ acoustically, and much more.
