Young & Sick – Bitter End

Young & Sick

Young & Sick is the project by musician and visual artist Nick van Hofwegen.

After a stroke of luck following a move from his home country of Holland to London, Nick was commissioned to put together artwork for artists such as Foster the People, Maroon 5 and Mikky Ekko.

If that wasn’t enough to contend with, this creative genius has taken his pen music and the result is funkily brilliant. His new single ‘Bitter End’ “is a celebration of seeing things through completely. It’s looking back at a pretty wild year of countless obstacles and turbulent skies. Through the eyes of an unstoppable maniac”.

You can purchase Young & Sick’s ‘Ojai’ EP on limited edition 7″ vinyl here, out now via Neon Gold Records / B3SCI Records.

He also plays some live dates supporting Our Lovely Friends and The Knocks (tickets here), where you can likely expect a multi-faceted experience of music performance and interactive art.

Playlist: Chelsea Lankes

It’s not long until the end of the year, and what better way to see 2017 through with a playlist from Chelsea Lankes. This one goes out to all the ladies, and is probably one of the best playlists we’ve ever had! Lucky you!

“Here are some favorites over the last couple months including songs from favorite albums this year: SZA, Phoebe Bridgers, YOUTH, Lorde and Wolf Alice. Also I put a few singles from female pop artists I love and respect! To be enjoyed while driving at night, at low key parties, showering or anywhere you might sing really loud alone. 🙂”

…And whilst we have you, give Chelsea’s new track a spin too.

Bien – Spinning On Blue

Bien - Spinning on Blue

Bien is a Nashville-based dream-pop trio comprised of Jessie Early, and Angela & Tim Lauer (Kaleo, Taylor Swift, The Civil Wars, Foy Vance, Mikky Ekko).

Bien could be categorised into both lo-fi and hi-fi genres, thanks to their clever blend of synthetic and organic sounds, taken from an amalgamation of synths, strings and vocals.

Bien says about new track, ‘Spinning On Blue’,

“There’s so much going on in the world right now, and we really wanted to write something that encouraged people to remember we’re all sharing this planet. It’s our kind of ‘seize the day’ song that reminds us to take in the beauty and wonder of the world and the people around us.”

Active Child – Feeling Is Gone

Active Child

Active Child

Active Child is the critically acclaimed electronic-meets-choral project of Pat Grossi.

Pat Grossi grew up in New Jersey and sang in the Philadelphia Boys Choir, but also had great interest in 80s alternative electronic bands, such as New Order.

Since forming Active Child, Grossi has been keeping busy. In 2010 Active Child released his first EP, ‘Curtis Lane’, via Merok Records. In 2011, Active Child’s debut album ‘You Are All I See’ was released via Vagrant Records.

We haven’t been fortunate to watch Active Child play live but we have it on good authority it is a show not to be missed. With a harp regularly at centre stage, Grossi is known for luring the audience into an electronic wander with his pitch perfect voice.

Recent collaborations under his belt include Mikky Ekko and the gorgeous Ellie Goulding. One track we have on repeat is ‘Feeling Is Gone’, which epitomises a beautiful and intimate 80’s throwback. Have a listen below:

The new EP, ‘Rapor’ was released via Sun Rooms Recordings on 18 October 2013 and can be purchased on iTunes here.

Sounds like: Yeasayer, Deptford Goth, Thomas Azier, Vancouver Sleep Clinic, TDeL2, Twin Shadow
