Nimmo – UnYoung

NIMMO by Fiona Garden

NIMMO by Fiona Garden

Nimmo are a unique electronic five-piece who can be traced back to the decade-long friendship of co-vocalists (and football-obsessives) Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett.

Citing 80’s and 90’s pop influences from the likes of Tears for Fears, New Order, and Everything But The Girl, as well as jungle, and drum n bass, Nimmo have immersed themselves not only with the sounds of the club culture, but also located the moods of aggression, energy and heartache within that which would add depth to their songwriting.

Having already collaborated with Tim Goldsworthy (DFA) and Maya Jane Coles, they have now teamed up with Boxed In (aka Oli Bayston) for more of an infectious pop track with ‘UnYoung’.

Lyrically, the band describe ‘UnYoung’ as “a song about the fear of our parents or loved ones in general dying, and only being remembered in photographs on a mantelpiece. As the instrumentation progressed, ‘UnYoung’ became a celebration of your family and just being alive.”

Nimmo have been shortlisted for MTV Brand New 2016. The annual showcase for MTV Brand New 2016 will be at the Electric Ballroom, London on 27 January.

‘UnYoung’ is out early 2016 via Columbia Records.

Sounds like: Boxed In, Years & Years, Everything But The Girl, Lucas Nord, Honne, Sivu, Jata

Vaults – Vultures

Vaults – Vultures

Vaults is a trio from London. They release haunting new single ‘Vultures’, which is taken from the forthcoming EP of the same name.

As the name suggests, ‘Vultures’ is an atmospheric track that immediately screams out grandeur, with strong vocals and multi-dimensional classical strings. We expect big things from Vaults in 2015.

The ‘Vultures EP’ is due for release 1 December on VIRGIN EMI as a digital download and limited edition 12-inch vinyl. The EP features two other brand new songs and a remix of the title track by Maya Jane Coles.

Sounds like: London Grammar, Phantogram, Broods, Gems, Kacy Hill, Susanne Sundfør, IYES, Alt-J, Daughter

Digitalism – Wolves feat. Youngblood Hawke

Digitalism feat Youngblood Hawke

Digitalism feat Youngblood Hawke

Having hinted at a change in direction with a soundcloud-only release at the start of the year, Hamburg duo Digitalism (Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekçi) is finally back for our listening pleasure with ‘Wolves’; the first proper single that further underlines this new direction.

The boys spent the early part of this year in L.A., writing and producing new music, road testing new demos and trying out new ideas by going back to their roots and causing havoc amongst fans at their twice monthly East L.A. Warehouse parties.

Despite Digitalism’s European techno and EDM background, ‘Wolves’ is an upbeat and catchy track with American indie-pop vibes, courtesy of vocals from Youngblood Hawke, who focused on the classic EDM from the 70’s.

Track listing:
1. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (Radio Edit)
2. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (12” Version)
3. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (Riton Remix)
4. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (RAC Remix) – listen below
5. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (Booka Shade Remix)

The track was released on 14 July under their own Magnetism Records and a new album in 2015 is imminent.

Sounds like: RAC, Calvin Harris, Youngblood Hawke, Viceroy
