Gotts Street Park – Favourite Kind Of Girl

We have to admit, we hadn’t heard the music of Leeds based fourpiece, Gotts Street Park before this single, and now we can’t get enough.

Having produced for the likes of Mabel, Celeste, Yellow Days, Kali Uchis, Grentea Peng and Rejjie Snow, their new single, ‘Favourite Kind Of Girl’ is a stand out track. It features emerging vocalist Flikka and has been inspired by the DIY ethos of soul music and tackles the theme of self-love.

Speaking on the track Flikka says, “I wrote this song when I was in a place of not feeling seen or listened to. I was continually looking for it in an outside source without result and it made me feel lonely. Sometimes you need to be your own best friend/mother and by greatest support and I wrote this song as a mantra and reminder to myself to be the person I want and need to be.”

It’s out now on Blue Flowers.

Having been close to the subject, HOAX will be donating 50% of royalties from “Unamerican Dream” to KIND (Kids In Need of Defense), an organization that helps immigrant children who entered the U.S. alone find a safe haven.

Starting with gorgeous jazz-inspired piano chords, the Jae
Eaux-produced track quickly develops with Malika’s soulful words about a lost long coupled with subtle choir-backing vocals.

Speaking on ‘Stranger Things’, Malika explains,

“Stranger Things is one of THE MOST personal songs I’ve written, it describes a real moment in time for me, and a real struggle between two people. For me it was necessary to tell this story this way. When I got back in the studio to work on new music it was with the idea of saying what I wanted to say, making what I wanted to make, without restriction. And I think you can hear that and feel that on Stranger things. Ultimately my hope is always to connect with people. Western Scene – Strange But True

Do not be deceived, ‘Strange But True’ by Western Scene is not a Christmas song, despite the countless bells and chimes in the song. Instead, it is a call for decent music.

Formed by front man Tom Pritchard in Los Angeles, Western Scene is an indie rock band through and through, spending years self-producing music that has been written and recorded in bedrooms and studios across the coast.
