Still Corners – Far Rider

Still Corners by Bernard Bur

Still Corners by Bernard Bur

It’s been a minute since we’ve covered Still Corners, but it’s been worth the wait.

Releasing ‘Far Rider,’ the band explore a more hypnotic and lengthy endeavour full of dusky guitar riffs (think Kill Bill and ‘Sultans of Swing’) and sandy croons courtesy of Tessa Murray.

Tessa explains, “This song is about leaving, lost love and finding yourself somewhere on the journey, really it’s about redemption. I recently drove 6000 miles across the southwest to feel the sun on my face and think. We used the dreamlike nature of the song to capture the landscape and a hypnotic feel to conjure up the long and lonely travel days.”

It’s out now via Wrecking Light Records.

Röyksopp – Never Ever (Feat. Susanne Sundfør)

Röyksopp

Röyksopp

Norweigian artists, Röyksopp and Susanne Sundfør are no strangers to working together, having collaborated on ‘Running To The Sea’ and ‘Save Me’.

New number, ‘Never Ever’, is a highly danceable, electronic track, seeing Röyksopp return in full force.

“The track has its own cosmos and its own place.” says Svein Berge. “The whole idea of us going away from the whole album concept was that we do have many musical expressions that we want to do,” says Torbjørn. “One of them might be a club track, but we don’t necessarily want to do an album of it. It’s that way with ‘Never Ever’ – we love it, but we don’t need 12 tracks like it.”

Playlist: Dragonette

Dragonette

Dragonette

It’s not always about the girls, but sometimes it is.

The lovely Dragonette have put together a playlist for us called “Indietronica – an indie pop girls only mix”.

Listen below!

Santigold – Can’t Get Enough Of Myself (feat. B.C)
I was told that this song was inspired by an Iranian disco song from the 80’s. I’ve been listening to a lot of world music and I love how well they mashed this up. So unique.

Lucius – Born Again Teen
I feel deeply in love with Lucius’ first record. There are so many awesome songs on this new one of theirs Good Grief. But I’m choosing “Born Again Teen” on our playlist because i think its such an strange arrangement. Where’s the chorus!? I don’t know! Who cares?

Dua Lipa – Be The One
Every time I go back to London to work with other musicians I learn about artists who are up-and-coming over there. Last time I was there it was Dua Lipa. Maybe everybody already knows her but I just discovered her and I love the vibe of this tune.

Niki & The Dove – Coconut Kisses
Niki & The Dove’s The Drummer is one of my favourite indie pop albums of all times. I’ve been waiting a long time for their follow up. It almost reminds me of Empire Of The Sun. But with Stevie Nicks‘ voice.

Christine And The Queens – iT
My friend showed me this song the other day, I don’t know anything else of theirs. It’s the beginning of a new love I suspect.

Petite Meller – Barbaric
I think she’s a style genius. We played a show with her in Florence and I drank her up like pink lemonade.

Sounds like: Niki & The Dove, Charli XCX, Gwen Stefani, Icona Pop, OH Land, Little Boots, Girl Friend

Lilly Wolf – Terrible Mistake

Lilly Wolf

Lilly Wolf

Based in Brooklyn, Lilly Wolf is the brainchild of singer/songwriter Lilly Wolfson and producer Alex Neuhausen, better known as Dr. Nu (an appropriate pseudonym for Neuhausen, who has a PhD in electrical engineering).

They like to toy with emotions and play with our musical minds, through the creation of dark synth pop that is bursting at the seams with infectious melodies about vulnerable subject matters.

Explaining the motivation for the video, Wolfson says “It started with this letter that’s been attributed to Bukowski, although if you look it up, no one can cite exactly where it’s from. It’s got the line “find what you love and let it kill you….for all things will kill you, both slowly and fastly, but it’s much better to be killed by a lover.” I was on a couch in Alex’s loft at maybe 6am on New Years morning when I first read it. We’d been up all night, the light was coming in through the big window, we (there were maybe eight of us at that point) were all draped over couches or talking quietly, and that’s when I started working on that song.”

Describing the making of the video, Neuhausen explains “We started with finding our awesome director, Luke Choi. He did the video for “Blue Hawaii” by ASTR, and the colors and vibe for that video are perfectly matched to the song. We reached out to him and he was psyched about working with us, so we started kicking ideas back and forth. We decided to basically reenact the inspiration for the song, shooting in the same locations I went to during that crazy New Years. A lot of the footage slow-motion reversed, as if we could undo the mistakes we’re depicting in the video.”
