The lovely Kyla La Grange is back, following the release of the enslaving ‘Cut Your Teeth‘, which was later remixed by tropical house DJ of the moment, Kygo.
Less of a goth princess this time, and more of an 80’s electro star, ‘So Sweet’ is a sugary pop treat. It has a backdrop of minimalistic synth beats, but it is Kyla’s vocals that really take the lead.
“I wrote So Sweet in my kitchen when I was feeling really happy and in love” explains Kyla, continuing “I started out with this arpeggiated jerky tuba type sound that I really liked but then wanted the choruses to feel a bit more cinematic with the dreamy guitars and harmonies, so there is kind of a weird contrast between the verses and the choruses, but I like it.”
If you’re wondering why the song feels different from Kyla’s previous material, she says “I guess 150bpm is pretty fast for a four to the floor track but I think it’s because I felt kind of buzzy when I was writing it. I never really wrote a love song before, at least not one that wasn’t sad.”
It is one of a collection of singles remixed by Jakwob.
Kyla will play Oval Space in London on 19 November; her biggest headline gig to date.
