isle&fever

It’s been a while since we’ve written about some Los Angeles-based nu-disco.

Born from Echo Park, isle&fever are a duo who have a pretty simple way of recording music – “pass around vintage instruments and the mic until a vibe catches. Rinse, Repeat.” – and it appears this method is working as their last single reached number 1 on Hype Machine.

Their latest endeavour is called ‘Keep Working’ and it takes you on a jazz infused, sonic journey. Listen below.

alxxa – Hung Up

alxxa

Not only does alxxa have a degree in physics, she also appears to have a pretty good grasp on how the musical universe works.

Her new track ‘Hung Up’ is bang on point, with relatable lyrics that gently flow over soft keys and alxxa’s smooth vocals.

“Hung Up’ is a very special song for me,” shares alxxa. “It was the first song I wrote when I moved to Los Angeles…alone, sitting at the piano, all in about an hour or so. It was a combination of shitty relationships, bad habits, nasty injuries, toxic work environments, poor self-image…you name it. Realizing I needed a change, I packed my things and drove across the country. The week long drive cleared my head and released a lot of the negative energy I had been harboring for a long time. This song describes the toxic cycle I was living in, at war with my surroundings and with myself.”

The 90’s was a messy time, and Mating Ritual are channelling such vibes with their new track ‘Drunk’, which lasts a sturdy six minutes 21 seconds. The album, ‘How You Gonna Stop It?’ will be out on 9 June via Smooth Jaws.

Goldroom – Spread Love

Goldroom

We absolutely love a positive message, especially when conveyed through music, and it appears that ‘Spread Love’ by Goldroom does just that.

Goldroom has decided to release the live favourite as a single (featuring vocals by Rooty) and although it edges towards pop more than his former releases, it still offers that signature feel-good dance sound that Goldroom is renowned for.

Goldroom said of the release: “My goal for this song was to try and capture the kind of simple earnestness that a lot of early French House had, which was a major inspiration for me. Playing it on the road the last few months, the vibe in the room would just light up as audiences reacted to the energy of the song. It felt like it was the right time to release the song to the world.”

Sounds like: Holy Ghost!, Flight Facilities, Autograf, Cut Copy

Axel Mansoor

Los Angeles Axel Mansoor has just shared the reflective ‘Out Of My Head’.

Axel’s light vocals and soft clicks gently easy you in before reaching a celebratory pop chorus that represents a release of shackles from ones inner critic, or as Axel puts it,

“It’s an anthem about coming to terms with the chips that we stack on our shoulders and letting them go.”

Sounds like: Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars
