Digitalism – Wolves feat. Youngblood Hawke

Digitalism feat Youngblood Hawke

Digitalism feat Youngblood Hawke

Having hinted at a change in direction with a soundcloud-only release at the start of the year, Hamburg duo Digitalism (Jens Moelle and Ismail Tüfekçi) is finally back for our listening pleasure with ‘Wolves’; the first proper single that further underlines this new direction.

The boys spent the early part of this year in L.A., writing and producing new music, road testing new demos and trying out new ideas by going back to their roots and causing havoc amongst fans at their twice monthly East L.A. Warehouse parties.

Despite Digitalism’s European techno and EDM background, ‘Wolves’ is an upbeat and catchy track with American indie-pop vibes, courtesy of vocals from Youngblood Hawke, who focused on the classic EDM from the 70’s.

Track listing:
1. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (Radio Edit)
2. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (12” Version)
3. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (Riton Remix)
4. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (RAC Remix) – listen below
5. Wolves Feat. Youngblood Hawke (Booka Shade Remix)

The track was released on 14 July under their own Magnetism Records and a new album in 2015 is imminent.

Sounds like: RAC, Calvin Harris, Youngblood Hawke, Viceroy

The Knocks – Savior (featuring Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot)

The Knocks

The Knocks

The Knocks are a noisey electronic music duo consisting of Ben ‘B-Roc’ Ruttner and James ‘JPatt’ Patterson.

The guys chose the name after neighbours were forced to knock on their door and complain to them for making much noise.

The remix gurus have now teamed up with with Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot to create a smooth modern track with a classic 90s vibe.

It’s completely fitting that the track has been taken from their new EP, ‘Comfortable’, which is released today via Neon Gold Records.

To celebrate the EP release and also reaching 50,000 fans on Facebook, the guys are playing a DJ set a Le Pousson Rouge this Thursday. If you are in the area, it’s definitely worth going and offering up your residence for an afterparty!

And for old time’s sake, check out the video for ‘Modern Hearts’ (featuring St. Lucia) which is also on our June playlist.

Talking of St. Lucia…like The Knocks remix of ‘Elevate’ on Hype Machine and get a free download of the track.

Frontman Olly Alexander comes from a classicist musical upbringing, and draws on iconic pop culture figures such as Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley, David Lynch and Raymond Carver – wrapping them in his crooning, melodic tones.

‘Real’ follows the trio’s debut single, ‘Traps’, which earned the fast-rising threesome a welcome response from the blogging community. Listen to ‘Traps’ here

Graingerboy – Silent Universe EP & Interview

Electronic-music veteran Simon Grainger aka Graingerboy is from Leeds, UK, and has recently unveiled 7-track EP ‘Silent Universe’ out now on PopCrisis and is available for purchase here.

Having worked with Kitsune’s DJ Jerry Bouthier, Ian Catt (Saint Etienne), Simon Phipps and Jagz Kooner (Primal Scream/Sabres Of Paradise), Graingerboy is certainly getting a lot of attention and is one to watch over the next few months.

The EP is a product of a challenging couple of years in Grainger’s personal life. As a whole, it is a varied, melodic masterpiece, and there are clear 90s sampling influences within, yet the use of overdriven synths and straight up drum loops gives an additional 80s feel, ranging from disco to Balearic.

Graingerboy was kind enough to give Indietronica an interview, the answers from which you can read below.

Years & Years – Traps

Years & Years

Years & Years

London based rising stars Years & Years present the video for their latest track, ‘Traps’.

‘Traps’ commences with an elongated synth as dramatically sounding as something taken from Mogwai’s soundtrack for ‘The Returned’, but the beat soon loosens up as frontman and actor Olly Alexander tenderly recites ‘will you lay a trap for me?’.

The video initially lures us into a bit of a depressing setting, but soon drives the watcher into a world of synth pop and illuminous triangles. This is a true electronic love song.

The band’s second EP, also entitled ‘Traps’, was written during the band’s recent retreat to a remote cabin on a secluded Sussex seafront, and follows on from the debut EP ‘I Wish I Knew’ which was suitably released a year ago.

‘Traps’ is out 9 September on Kitsuné.

Sounds like: Cloud Boat, Yes Cadets, Citizens!

Chela – Romanticise

Meet the gorgeous Chela.

Chela’s are usually short, but mighty, and wow does this Chela kick a tuneful punch. Chela’s tend to break hearts and party harder than average. All this wooing must have paid off as Chela has collaborated with Ben Ely (REgurgitatOR) to produce ‘Plastic Gun’, and Benjamin LeBruce (Clubfeet) for ‘Full Moon’ and ‘Guts’. Chela has also featured on ‘Fifteen’ by LA Producer, Josh Legg (aka Goldroom); Viceroy‘s ‘Dream of Bombay’; and ‘Heartbreak’ by fellow Aussie, Clubfeet.

You can pre-order the ‘Romanticise’ remixes EP via Kitsune on iTunes now. Main release is set for 26 August 2013.

With the help of some crafty remixes, Chela seems to effortlessly alter between dirty beats reminiscent of DENA, to dreamy electronica that is displayed in ‘Fifteen’, which we simply cannot get enough of.

Sounds like: Charli XCX, Ladyhawke, DENA
