Queer artist 36Birds wants us to fall in love with rave again, and his new single ‘BOY’ does just that.

Interpolating Underworld’s iconic ‘Born Slippy’ and underscoring it with a tough kickdrum while also referencing Bronski Beat’s ‘Hit That Perfect Beat’, his vocals, seduced in autotune, fuse heart-on-sleeve R&B with rave. In a bid to give something back, 36birds wanted his fans to receive it as a free download, which you can get below.

Debuting their first single, The Born Love share ‘Tempest’.

Comparing themselves to The Temper Trap and Kings of Leon may seem like a slightly cavalier approach, but what’s the point if you don’t aim high? And in this case, the resemblance is just.

‘Tempest’ has the flavourings of an electronic track, but with the additional rocky drums, and an all indie inspiring chorus.

The track was written by Kevin and Aron (BANKS, Halsey) of the band, and has been mastered by Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys) in Los Angeles.

Interview with The Hunna

The Hunna

Hertfordshire four-piece The Hunna is causing quite a stir in the music world.

We caught up with the guys following their recent tour with Coasts, and discussed hip hop and rock influences, as well as what it was like working with Tim Larcombe (Lana Del Rey, Halsey) and Dan Grech (Wolf Alice, Circa Waves).

How did you meet and why did you start making music together?

We’ve all been close friends and brothers for a while now. Daniel Dorney (Bandana Dan) and Ryan Potter (Valentino) met in music college 6 years ago pursuing the goal of making great music. Jack Metcalfe (Insta King) also went to the same college a few years before. Jermaine Angin (The Prince) has known Bandana Dan since primary school and learnt how to play the guitar together since secondary school. There’s always been a connection between us even though we all met at different times in our lives. After our first rehearsal together 2 years ago we all knew that this was something really special and almost like it was meant to be. Our love and appreciation for music is something that we can’t put into words, the feeling that we have when playing together is the reason why we started and why we will continue making music together!

Where did the name The Hunna come from?

We all have a big hip hop / rap influence so it originated from that. We believe in keeping it 1hunna in everything we do.

Describe your sound in three words.

Turn Up Rock.

You worked with Tim Larcombe and Dan Grech on ‘Bonfire’. What was it like working with them?

It was a privilege to work with Tim Larcombe. He understood our vision and got to know us on a personal level really quickly which helped in the work environment and was a big reason why ‘Bonfire’ sounds like it does. We can safely say that Tim is a 1hunna guy and a true professional at what he does. He’s a true Hunna squad member! We admire Dan Grech’s roster and the work that he has produced. He was a pleasure to work with and brought a unique element to the track

Scavenger Hunt – Lost

Scavenger Hunt

Scavenger Hunt is Philadelphia-native and established music producer/composer Dan Mufson, and jaxx/folk singer Jill Lamoureux (who is one-half of the husband/wife duo Wing and Hollow).

The day after they met, the duo got to work by composing a track for a makeup commercial. They enjoyed the writing process so much that they decided to form Scavenger Hunt.

The name has been drawn from Mufson’s interpretation of the networking culture in L.A.

‘Lost’ is a real laid back treat with sunny panpipe sounds and illustrious glacial echos. It’s a track completely different to the scavenger hunt you would find in the city of L.A.

You can buy the single on iTunes now or download it for free on their website when you sign up via email. Scavenger Hunt’s first EP is set for a 2014 release.
