Sekuoia

Sekuoia

Sekuoia teams up with fellow Dane, Kill J for ‘Lamp In The Dark’; a deep-beating electronic track in which Kill J’s falsetto vocals glide in perfectly.

As Sekuoia puts it himself, “the process was one of the most creative things I’ve done. KIll J had some really good input regarding the production, and I had a bit of input towards some vocal aspects. For me, she was the ideal collab”.

It’s out now via Nowadays Records.

Mint Trip – Virga

Mint Trip

Mint Trip

Mint Trip is a foursome from Miami’s Frost School of Music, who are all about the musical feels.

Comprising of Amy (vocals), Anthony (guitar, synth, drum pads, backup vocals), Brian (bass, mixing), and Max (guitar, synth, drum pads, production), they formed in January 2015 over a love of electronic and non-electronic music, and a mutual interest in pushing the boundaries of pop music.

Their second single, ‘Virga’, is about Amy’s brother, a meteorology major who had to leave Miami after two years and go back to Maryland. He was interested in clouds, and Virga is the type of cloud that forms in vertical streaks under a larger cloud in a rainstorm.

Have a listen below:

‘Virga’ has been taken from their first EP, which is due out this year.

AUGUSTE – Slow Motion

Auguste

Auguste

South Australian step-sisters Beth & Skye (aka Auguste) proudly unveil the hotly anticipated music video for their critically acclaimed debut single ‘Slow Motion’.

Produced by Andy Bull and directed by Aaron Schuppan, the clip revolves around the artistic stylings of Brooks Salzwedel, the Los Angeles based artist who conceptualised the single art for ‘Slow Motion’.

A song about about infatuation, ‘Slow Motion’ evokes the feeling of complete disarmament one feels at the mere sight of the object of their desire. “Slow Motion is about that feeling you get when you unexpectedly see someone you are in love with or infatuated by. Everything starts to move in slow motion and feelings come crashing in from all directions”, Skye explains.

Acre Tarn – Flex

Acre Tarn

Acre Tarn

Acre Tarn is the electronic music project from Anna-Louisa Etherington, a singer/producer originally from the Lake District.

Acre Tarn has a passion for disjointed industrial beats cut into powerful, yet ghostly landscapes and the new track ‘Flex’ is no exception. Combine this with Anna-Louisa’s autumnal and echoey vocals, and you are onto a winner.

It is the first track taken from the forthcoming second EP.

Sounds like: Purity Ring, Chvrches, Keep Shelly in Athens, Kill J, Gems, Wildhart, Grimes, Mons Montis, Kate Bush, Little Dragon, ASTR, Cocteau-Twins, Saycet, St Lo

ALMA – Watcher

New single ‘Watcher’ is the first single from ALMA‘s debut EP ‘Dark Matter’, a self-proclaimed experimental project in collaboration with producer, Virtu.

Seeking some dubstep-inspiration, ‘Watcher’ is bass heavy with emotional vox.

ALMA explains, “I hope the song takes people to another place like it did for me when I wrote it. Music should move you.”

It certainly does that.

Acre Tarn – Dawn Faces

Acre Tarn - Dawn Faces

Acre Tarn – Dawn Faces

Acre Tarn is the electronic music project from Anna-Louisa Etherington, a singer/producer originally from the Lake District.

The debut ‘Clasp and Shake EP’ came with a number of video collaborations from Manchester-based video-jam projects that projected colourful and haunting visuals upon the music. Staying true to her roots, Anna’s new track Dawn Faces’ features a children’s choir and a number of samples recorded in a cave not far from the lake from which Acre Tarn takes its name.

As the name suggests, ‘Dawn Faces’ is a multifaceted and haunting affair with astounding impact. The listener is lead on a mountainous journey full of ethereal synths, beats that drive with industrial clatter, and a syrupy bass line into the spaces around a huge attention-grabbing chorus.

Fine Animal – Old Dollar

Fine Animal by Josh Smith Photography

Fine Animal by Josh Smith Photography

Fine Animal is a Columbus-based dreampop trio comprising of KC Wilder, Lucy Oaks, and Kelan Gilbert. They formed in 2013.

Describing themselves as “indie electro, dream pop, glo-fi, chill wave music for ice skating”, we would agree. Although new track ‘Old Dollar’ was a creation based on a traditional work song ‘Old Dollar Mamie’ (which was recorded in 1947 at Lambert Camp at the Mississippi State Penitentiary), it is deep electro full of futuristic beats and halo vocals.

Purity Ring – Push Pull

Purity Ring – Push Pull

Purity Ring is a Canadian electronic duo who formed in 2010. The band consists of Megan James (vocals) and Corin Roddick (instrumentals).

Along with such musicians as Grimes and Nicholas Jaar, Purity Ring is falling into a new category of music, under the guise of ‘witch house’ and ‘dream pop’.

After a two year break, the duo is back with ‘Push Pull’. As displayed in the video, ‘Push Pull’ is gentle and quixotic.
