Born Stranger – Cheating Love (Feat Caitlyn Scarlett)

Born Strangers

Nothing beats a beautiful electro-pop duet.

UK-based Born Stranger (aka Maddox-Jones and Raife Hacking) invited emerging vocalist, Caitlyn Scarlett, to join them in the studio. Just 15 minutes later, the verse and lyrics to ‘Cheating Love’ were created.

Caitlyn explains, “The phrase ‘cheating love’ can be perceived as infidelity, but the undertone I wanted to convey was that of cheating love the same way someone might cheat death, a close shave but ultimately avoided.”

The track is co-produced by Yoad Nevo (Sia, Pet Shop Boys, Goldfrapp).

Sounds like: Prinze George, Sia, The Wombats, Bastille, Major Lazer, Years & Years, M83, Foals, KAPTAN, The Brocks, Tears for Fears, Depeche Mode, Myzica

BLAJK – Lethal

BLAJK by Jeffrey Ayres

Toronto band BLAJK, return with ‘Lethal’, another well put together offering from the four piece.

Of the track, the band say,

“Lethal is a song about a tarnished yet lustful relationship that has kept you going back and forth over time. Constantly yearning for the person while fully aware that reconnecting only leads to trouble and unhappiness. It’s about indulging in the guilty pleasure that is this person and living with the consequences.”

KAPTAN – Numbers

All good love songs start from a place of heartbreak.

Nashville artist, KAPTAN (aka Andrew de Torres) returns with the highly emotional, but equally as infectious, ‘Numbers’.

Of the track, KAPTAN explains,

“I was sitting inside my bass player’s (Brandon Day) studio and he was showing me a ton of different tracks that he had been working on for fun. Normally when we write together we always start from scratch but he ended up playing a small clip of something he had started and I fell in love immediately. We sat down to write the song and knew that we wanted to do something different from everything else that we had worked on together. The song is really just about feeling like your trapped in limbo and wondering whether or not there are things from the past that can help you in the future. We often find ourselves in relationships that are starting to fall apart and until it finally ends its hard to know where you stand or what will happen.”

KAPTAN – Way Out

Cool kid on the block, Andrew de Torres is KAPTAN.

Based in Nashville, Andrew has a knack for melding emotionally direct lyrics with refined, nuanced compositions.

Of the track, KAPTAN says, “This was literally the very first song I wrote for this project. I wrote and recorded the demo in one evening and immediately felt a connection to this particular sound. I eventually went back in to re-record some of the parts with my friend Brandon Metcalf and got additional help on production by our good friend Jakub Vanyo of Nonaphoenix. The song itself carries a lot of personal meaning for me and is just a good reminder that our lives are what we make them to be and to continue moving forward even when life gets difficult.”
