Stalgia – In The Trees

Stalgia

Stalgia

Stalgia is the musical project of Lauren Day, who uses Stalgia as her connection to the outside world, and a safety net to protect her following a stint of being bullied whilst growing up.

‘In The Trees’ is a floaty, R&B number, that oozes passion.

Stalgia is the latest signing to Evan Bogart’s new label, Crooked Paintings (Annabel Jones).

Tracy Irve – To Mind

Tracy Irve

Tracy Irve

Slowing down things with new track, Gothenburg sibling duo, Tracy Irve return with ‘To Mind’, a release composed of raw vocals and modest production.

Growing up surrounded by rock music (their father was in Swedish rock group Snowstorm), discovering a mutual love for acoustic pop and singer/songwriters, later working with Chris Stokes, and signing to (and subsequently separating from) label Silent Partner have all lead to this moment where the duo feel free to share their dark and downtempo electronic sound.

Meadowlark – Paraffin

Meadowlark by Giles Smith

Meadowlark by Giles Smith

Meadowlark (aka Kate McGill and Daniel Broadley) return with the brilliant new single called ‘Paraffin’.

We wrote about the duo some time ago, but since then their sound appears to have evolved; gradually building the tracks from simple melodies into dense sonic structures was an experimental process through which Meadowlark have firmly found their creative voice.

Directed by James Beale (All We Are, Phantogram, Jon Hopkins), the video is a dream-like take on a relationship that is skewed both visually and narratively.

Speaking about the concept behind the film, the band explain: “We’ve previously directed all our own music videos and this was the first time we had ever worked with someone else on one of our songs. It was amazing to not only collaborate with a new mind but to also be able to watch the video with fresh eyes for the first time, to enjoy it as someone else would. ‘Paraffin’ is ultimately a song about the ups and downs of a relationship and James has managed to show that intimately and openly between the two characters.”

‘Paraffin’ is the title track from Meadowlark’s forthcoming EP which is set for release on 22nd April via Believe Recordings. The new record is the follow up to Meadowlark’s 2015 released ‘Dual’ EP which was produced by Ant West of Oh Wonder.

Vaults

Vaults, a trio from London, release the optimistic ‘Midnight River’ following their run of supports for Jack Garratt.

The video, which appears to have a underlying theme of freedom and empowerment, was filmed in an abandoned school, with awesome choreography to illustrate one hell of a trippy journey.

Tradiio Exclusive: Interview with Ayelle

Ayelle

Ayelle

Ayelle is a London-based singer songwriter. We caught up with her to discuss music, feminism and Tradiio.

On your Twitter, you describe yourself as “Singer/Songwriter, Feminist, Activist”. You are co-founder of Young Feminists London. Tell us more!

I’ve considered myself a feminist ever since I understood what it meant, that it’s basically just the belief that men and women are equal beings and should be treated as such. There are so many misconceptions still, I think I must’ve been about 12 when I first realised what it actually meant.

So when I came to London I ended up diving straight into campaigning and organising grass roots activism, and along the way I’ve learnt that there is so much more to the feminist movement than I ever knew.

It also gradually became a more prominent element in my songwriting as well, so the two passions have sort of intertwined by now.

I started Young Feminists London alongside three amazing women that I met at the Feminism In London conference 2014 and it became an awareness raising group for anyone of any self-identifying gender who found themselves on the same journey. We’ve been putting on free events with various speakers, organisations, poets and comedians for over a year now and it’s been really exciting to watch it grow.

As well as being a feminist, you make music. Why did you start making music?

As a kid I would make up melodies and lyrics about where I was or what I was feeling, so when I learned how to write that was one of the first things I’d put on paper. From then on songwriting became my way of expressing my emotions and a form of therapy at times.

Describe your sound in three words.

Vulnerable. Honest. Defiant.

We discovered you on Tradiio. Do you think free platforms, such as Tradiio, are making it easier for artists to expose their sound to the general public?

Definitely, it’s really tricky to get noticed if you don’t have the right team around you, which is something that takes time to build. Tradiio is one of those platforms that allows you to be heard simply based on the quality of what you’re making and if it resonates with people, it’s one of the smarter ways of turning listening into a more interactive experience.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?

I grew up listening to mainstream pop and r&b as well as a lot of persian music as it was always playing in the house, and both definitely left a mark on how I now use my voice. More recent influences are artists like Banks and Kelela whom I feel have been able to find something very unique which is the kind of music making that’s inspired me to experiment more with my own sound.

We love new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to?

I’m listening a lot to new artists like Jones, Connie Constance, Wafia & Sevdaliza to name a few!

We’ve invested in Ayelle. Have you? Listen to more of their songs and support them at tradiio.com/Ayelle.

Glades – Drive

Glades - Drive

Glades – Drive

GLADES is an indie-pop trio from Sydney, who love to make original electronica.

Their new track is called ‘Drive’, but only has a faint resemblance to the soundtrack of the film with the same title.

This PG13 version is a warm and dazzling synth melody which we could very easily drive along to.

It’s out now. Head to their Soundcloud for a free download of the track.

Echoes – All I Want (Dawn Golden Cover)

ECHOES

ECHOES

There seems to have been a slight shift to a more rock-based sound in recent months and Echoes are no exception.

Their sound is a cauldron of rock, indie and electronica.

The Dawn Golden cover of ‘All I Want’ starts of with atmospheric, ethereal electronic, and only kicks in 3/4 of the way through, but when it does, it gives us a glimpse of what Echoes maybe like live.

It’s also the first time they have sung together on a track.

Sounds like: Oh Wonder, Skies, London Grammar, The 1975, Banks, Fickle Friends, Monogem, Paperwhite, PROM, Kaleida, Sirena, 1987, IYES, Two Door Cinema Club, Until The Ribbon Breaks

Lucas Nord – Faking

Lucas Nord

Lucas Nord

Sometimes we listen to an artist and automatically assume that he or she is already well known, but it’s not until we look at their social media accounts that we realise the travesty of the situation.

One artist in this boat is Swedish producer and R&B pop artist, Lucas Nord.

Nord has music in his blood; he is the grandchild of legendary Swedish jazz musician, Putte Wickman. A producer, expanding into singing, Nord’s new single, ‘Faking’, details a relationship that is not what Nord thought it was and is his most personal song to date.

Nord has once again managed to successfully combine indietronica-styled vocals with dance-based bass lines; something that we haven’t really seen since the emergence of Disclosure.

He is going to be huge in 2016.

The track is the first song from Nord’s forthcoming mini LP, ‘Company’, due to be released in 2016 through Swedish indie label Cosmos Music (Say Lou Lou, Naomi Pilgrim).

Sounds like: Disclosure, Boxed In, Tove Lo, Years & Years, Banks, Jack Garratt, IYES, Le Youth, Sabella

Lastlings – Chills

Lastlings

Lastlings

Lastlings are an Australian brother-sister duo who create icy electronica.

Glacial electronica from the Gold Coast. It’s not something that you often hear, but we love their new track ‘Chills’. It cleverly showcases Amy’s echoing and angelic vocals, whilst Joshua masters the backdrop of swelling synths.

They are definitely ones to keep an eye on.

‘Chills’ is the third single from the Lastling’s upcoming debut EP ‘Unreality’, to be released early 2016.

Head to their Soundcloud page for a limited free download of the track.
