The KickDrums – Better

The KickDrums

The KickDrums

Producer and writer-come-solo artist, Alex Fitts has released ‘Better’ under the moniker, The KickDrums.

‘Better’ sounds like an ode to obscure late-70’s indie rock with its simplistic, yet catchy lyrics. Further still, to be able to create a song that also includes elements of hip hop and electronica takes a lot of talent, and it is clear that Alex is one talented guy.

‘Better’ is the second single from the new ‘Breathe Again EP’, which is out on 24 July via 24west Records. Pre-order on iTunes or Vinyl.

Sounds like: I AM DYNAMITE, Miike Snow, The Walkmen, Miguel, Atlas Genius, Goldroom, RAC

My Violet – Disintegrate

My Violet - Disintegrate

My Violet – Disintegrate

My Violet is an indie trio from Dublin, Ireland.

Their knee-shakingly good debut track ‘Disintegrate’ has been produced by Philip Magee (Kodaline, Miles Kane).

With anthemic qualities written all over it and an interlude to die for, My Violet is definitely one to watch.

Sounds like: Crystal Fighters, Kodaline, Osca, Young Kato, Miles Kane, The Academic, Young Mass

Rose Quartz – Leaving Now

Rose Quartz - Leaving Now

Rose Quartz – Leaving Now

Rose Quartz is a indie pop duo comprised of Alex Anderson and Ethan Converse.

They’ve been touring non-stop with St. Lucia and Electric Sons, but have still managed to nail the 80’s darkwave electronica sound in the second part of this track, and it is definitely less upbeat that their previous offerings. Perhaps, as a consequence of those long days on the road?

The video for ‘Leaving Now’ was filmed in Brooklyn, and is directed by Fredo Jones (Blurred Pictures).

Sounds like: St. Lucia, Electric Sons, Pistol Shrimp, Suzuki Method

Manchester is the capital of anthemic indie music in the UK. Standing tall is Swiss Lips and their latest effort, ‘BOOKS’.

With an 80’s electro sound and polished production, Swiss Lips has been described as Depeche Mode covering a Def Leppard track.

Swiss Lips said about ‘BOOKS’; “It’s about being young and confused by the world around you, smashing things up and starting again… From the moment that song came about we felt it was a special. We played it live on tour with Bastille and the audience feedback was really amazing.”

‘BOOKS’ is due for release on the 23 February via Foreverever / BMG Chrysalis with the bands self-titled debut LP following in March 2015.

Bear Hands – Giants

Bear Hands - Giants

Bear Hands – Giants

Bear Hands is a US indie rock band, comprising of Dillon Rau, Val Loper, Ted Feldman, and TJ Orscher.

Having studied at the same college as MGMT, Bear Hands unfortunately missed the wave that MGMT rode in 2008, and were too late for the punk rock scene in the early 2000’s. However, the tide has changed and the bands persistence is starting to pay off.

As apparent with all Bear Hands’ tracks, they take a while to mature. The track ‘Giants’ was actually released in late 2013, but some cheeky remixes have been doing the rounds of late and ‘Giants’ has picked up momentum again.

The tone of ‘Giants’ is summed up with the sexy, but pretty frantic video which features the band watching some girls rock out.

The director, Mark Pellington, explained about the video; “I wanted to make a sexy noisy pop blast…The energy and weird electric sense of desire and aggressiveness of the track was our theme…Love this band and this piece.”

Have a listen to the remixes below:

‘Giants’ is taken from the new album ‘Distraction’ which was released in the UK on 8 August 2014 via Warner Music UK and available for purchase on iTunes here.

Sounds like: Future Islands, MGMT, The Foals, Harts, Empire of The Sun, The Knocks, All American Rejects, Jimmy Eat World

Sir Sly – You Haunt Me

Sir Sly - You Haunt Me

Sir Sly – You Haunt Me

From the first listen to ‘Ghost’, we have been obsessed with Los Angeles trio, Sir Sly.

We are super excited to announce that ‘You Haunt Me’ is the first single to be released from the upcoming debut album with the same title.

The video is crisp and simple, like the basis of the track which is about recovering from a lost love. Despite its poppy sound, the lyrics are understandably melancholic. A true indie love song.

The album will be released via Cherrytree / Interscope Records on 16 September. If you pre-order on iTunes now, you will instantly receive 5 free tracks.

Sounds like: Wolf Gang, Pistol Shrimp, All We Are, Brotherun, Gypsy & The Cat, Jagwar Ma, St. Lucia, The 1975

Panda Cubs – Rise

Panda_Cubs_Rise-Artwork

Yorkshire/London lads Panda Cubs formed in 2011, and have since been working hard to perfect their sound and performance. Single ‘Rise’ is a heart-wrenching indie ‘dark pop’ masterpiece; with a sincere video, and vocals and guitar riffs comparable to indie-heavyweights Bombay Bicycle Club and Local Natives, Panda Cubs are a cross between post-punk revival and emotional indie-pop. The single was released Monday 26th August, with the full EP will available in September.

The latest track by Panda Cubs is ‘Brothers and Sisters’ which is available for a free download. Listen here.

Sounds like; Editors, White Lies, The Postal Service, Local Natives, Bombay Bicycle Club
