Alt-folk singer, Esmé Patterson returns with her expansive and dream-filled ballad, ‘Light In Your Window’.
We’ve all been there, glancing up to a light in our ex’s house, longing and hoping that we might catch a glimpse of them. Patterson perfectly captures that moment – the desire for a person, a feeling, a space in time that no longer exists, and the desire to move on.
The song marks her first for BMG and was recorded with fellow Coloradans Tennis in their garage in Denver.

There an great deal of exciting pop sounds coming from Germany at the moment. One such contender is Berlin based experimental pop artist Novaa.
Her intriguing visuals for ‘AI Am In Love’ explore the theme of love, specifically falling in love with artificial intelligence, and continues through to her unique and exciting upcoming album, ‘The Futurist’.
London duo IDER today share the inspiring visuals for ‘Mirror,’ a breakup anthem reviewing the loss of self-identity following a breakup, which almost always ends in a triumphant celebration of your own personal strength.
Shot by Lily Rose Thomas on Bromley High Street, the visuals are simplistic and honest, perfectly echoing the vulnerability of the song and the instinctive harmony of the girls.

London artist Austel creates highly emotive music, so we thought it would be worth asking her to put together a playlist for us of the same! The result is below, and includes her brand new single ‘Crows’.

I had this album on repeat for months after it came out. I love the recurring vocal riff and building tension in the first half of this track. The drop is immense – that saw bass synth riff… so good.

This track embodies everything I love about Daughter – Elena’s cutting lyrics, their trademark washes of guitar and ever-evolving sections and poignant vocal chants.

Dry and Dusty – Fever Ray
I’m a big fan of the self-titled Fever Ray record and Karin Dreijer’s androgynous vocal style. On ‘Dry and Dusty’, she combines her tribal voice with developing synth motifs and simple percussion, conjuring a surreal, dream-like mood.

This track opens with delicate, melancholic piano chords but soon evolves – introducing Amber Bain’s washes of vocoder-treated vocals, glitchy beats and expansive synths.

I went through a stage of being a bit obsessed by the Stranger Things soundtrack – it’s so hypnotic. The bass synth glide on ‘Hazmat Suits’ is huge and hits me in the stomach every time.
Form By Firelight – Jon Hopkins
Jon Hopkins’ Immunity is a huge sonic influence on us; it has so much life amongst all the electronic sounds. It’s just brilliant.
This Mess We’re In – PJ Harvey
One of my favourite songs of all time, on one of my favourite albums of all time. The addition of Thom Yorke’s ghostly vocals are a dream collaboration.

Outlier – Bonobo
Bonobo’s music has a great driving, energetic feel to it. Adam and I were both obsessed with Migration when it came out. The track ‘Outlier’ builds really strongly adding layer after layer. Tracks like this really influenced the Austel production process.
Sleaze – Klangstof
One of my more recent discoveries – I love the expansive space Klangstof create with those pulsing synths and soaring hooks.

Europe Is Lost – Kate Tempest
Kate Tempest is one of the most powerful performers of our time – the rising tension and cutting message of this track is profoundly resonant, and a haunting reflection of the days we’re living in.

Silhouettes (I, II & III) – Floating Points
Adam’s a big Floating Points fan. ‘Silhouettes (I, II & III)’ has this amazing string part in the middle section which is a wonderful merger of electronic and acoustic instrumentation.
The Eraser – Thom Yorke
This whole record is incredible, another one of my favourites. The opening title track is Thom Yorke at his best – trademark moody piano chords, glitchy rhythms and those beautiful, haunting vocals.

Teardrop – Massive Attack
‘Teardrop’ was my entry ticket into trip hop. Elizabeth Fraser is one of the greatest singers of all time and this track perfectly exhibits how much power you can create with moments of fragility and dynamic range.
New York-based sister act Chaos Chaos share their new single, ‘Dripping With Fire’.
Formerly in the band Smoosh, who performed with the likes of Bloc Party and Cat Power, the siblings are no beginners when it comes to playing in the music scene.
‘Dripping With Fire’ sheds light on sisterhood, and all its conflicts and memorabilia. Watch the video below, directed by Stephanie Dimiskovksi and inspired by Tina Barney’s portraits of families and Crystal Moselle‘s documentary ‘The Wolfpack’.

Norwegian duo Tuvaband share the video to new single ‘Everything We Do Is Wrong’.
The video explores the theme of being trapped and fits perfectly with the burdened vocals and echoey riffs, that are extremely reminiscent of The xx,
“Everything We Do Is Wrong is coming from an underlying feeling of being trapped and sometimes paralyzed in a world where the normalized, daily stuff we do feels wrong, both for the planet and the people. How and what we eat, buying new clothes, and the stuff we acquire because we think we need it, but actually don’t. “Everything We Do Is Wrong” is a raw and stripped back song with a lot of emotions.”

Alayna now resides in Brooklyn, where she has been working with Astronomyy on her new track, ‘Falling Autumn’.
Reminiscent of a 90’s R&B chart topper (note key change at 2:15), but offering something modern at the same time, ‘Falling Autumn’ is about “finding the stillness and comfort in someone else…It’s about connecting with someone on a deeper level and being confident in what you want, crave and feel.”
It’s out now via 20XX.
