TENDER – 6 In The Morning

TENDER - 6 In The Morning

After a hiatus, TENDER returns with ‘6 In The Morning’, showing a slightly new direction for the duo.

Stripping it back to basics, James Cullen and Dan Cobb’s new release is upfront and at times, takes an unnerving dive into self-reflection.

“The track ‘6 in the Morning’ is about the bitter, petty end to a relationship, where both parties do things to push the other away,” says Cullen. “Avoiding being the one to call it off, they intend to do things to make the other break. When the relationship finally ends, it brings relief.”

“We have all been in those situations, where it seems easier to stay in a bitter and toxic environment instead of just calling it off. It’s like pulling off a plaster. The slower you do it, the more pain it causes.”

Sounds like: MOTHXR, Jungle, Glass Animals, HUNTAR, Caribou, Air, The National, Tame Impala, Boxed In, Honne

Martin Luke Brown – Opalite

Martin Luke Brown by Bjorn Franklin

Londoner Martin Luke Brown has seemingly come out of nowhere with a banger of a indie pop track called ‘Opalite’ and he means business!

Speaking of the song, MLB says,

“Opalite as a song began with this hypnotic little drum loop and the words just came out. I write placeholder lyrics all the time and then chip away at them until they’re complete but I pretty much stuck with what rolled on Opalite. It just felt right. It’s about finding hope in something and not wanting to let itgo. Whether you find that hope in superstition or religion or love. Whatever really.”

MLB plays London’s Servant Jazz Quarters tonight and ‘Opalite’ is out now via LAB Records.

Tailor – Blame

Tailor - Blame

Birmingham-born singer/songwriter Tailor has already written for the likes of , TĀLĀ, Huntar, FTSE and Peking Duk, and his own solo material is pretty decent too.

Bordering on alt-pop and electronic music, Tailor has a knack of discussing both sides of the story. His most recent release is a double-A side single called ‘Disillusion / Blame’.

Whilst ‘Disillusion’ is more upbeat in production, ‘Blame’ is about taking the hit in a relationship to benefit the unit as a whole.

Mating Ritual – Drunk

Mating Ritual

The 90’s was a messy time, and Mating Ritual are channelling such vibes with their new track ‘Drunk’, which lasts a sturdy six minutes 21 seconds. Mating Ritual – Night Lies (Feat. Lizzy Land)

The last time we wrote about Mating Ritual, it was on RAEKO‘s ‘Need 2 Know’. This time around, Mating Ritual have produced a stand out track called ‘Night Lies’, featuring Lizzy Land.

‘Night Lies’ is at the forefront of modern day electronic music, with robust vocals and nostalgic drums that ring of a faraway musical utopia.

The track is the second to be released from the band’s debut album ‘How You Gonna Stop It?’, which will be released as two six-track volumes – Volume 1 on 24 January, and Volume 2 in April.

TENDER – Cut

Tender

Tender

Following on from the brilliant ‘Lost’ by TENDER is the new single, and the third release taken from their new forthcoming ‘EPII’ EP, called ‘Cut’.

Straightforward track titles do not reflect a simplistic attitude by the duo. Quite the opposite. This is complex, dark pop that features expansive cinematic synths and aims to hypnotise.

‘EPll’ will be released on 12 February.

Watch this space for live shows.

MOTHXR – Touch

MOTHXR

MOTHXR

Brooklyn four-piece MOTHXR returns with ‘Touch’.

Despite having already been placed high in music charts across the world, MOTHXR is a band that is not particularly vocal about its successes, remaining relatively “undiscovered”…but that’s why we like them; they just get on with things.

Penn Badgley (also of Gossip Girl fame) says the band’s music lies “somewhere between DIY punk production aesthetic, new wave and R&B,” naming influences like LCD Soundsystem, the Beastie Boys, and Arthur Russell. He calls their improvised songwriting “meticulous, but totally spontaneous.”

It’s the band’s first new music since signing with Washington Square and Kitsuné Records, but it’s equally as sensual as their last, with a subtle build up to an incredible climax at the end.
