Interview with The Hunna

The Hunna

The Hunna

Hertfordshire four-piece The Hunna is causing quite a stir in the music world.

We caught up with the guys following their recent tour with Coasts, and discussed hip hop and rock influences, as well as what it was like working with Tim Larcombe (Lana Del Rey, Halsey) and Dan Grech (Wolf Alice, Circa Waves).

How did you meet and why did you start making music together?

We’ve all been close friends and brothers for a while now. Daniel Dorney (Bandana Dan) and Ryan Potter (Valentino) met in music college 6 years ago pursuing the goal of making great music. Jack Metcalfe (Insta King) also went to the same college a few years before. Jermaine Angin (The Prince) has known Bandana Dan since primary school and learnt how to play the guitar together since secondary school. There’s always been a connection between us even though we all met at different times in our lives. After our first rehearsal together 2 years ago we all knew that this was something really special and almost like it was meant to be. Our love and appreciation for music is something that we can’t put into words, the feeling that we have when playing together is the reason why we started and why we will continue making music together!

Where did the name The Hunna come from?

We all have a big hip hop / rap influence so it originated from that. We believe in keeping it 1hunna in everything we do.

Describe your sound in three words.

Turn Up Rock.

You worked with Tim Larcombe and Dan Grech on ‘Bonfire’. What was it like working with them?

It was a privilege to work with Tim Larcombe. He understood our vision and got to know us on a personal level really quickly which helped in the work environment and was a big reason why ‘Bonfire’ sounds like it does. We can safely say that Tim is a 1hunna guy and a true professional at what he does. He’s a true Hunna squad member! We admire Dan Grech’s roster and the work that he has produced. He was a pleasure to work with and brought a unique element to the track

One Bit – Interview & Limitless

One Bit - Limitless

One Bit – Limitless

One Bit is a pop house duo. Since writing about One Bit back in April, they have continued to grow in popularity, already becoming the most played act via BBC Introducing in 2014.

Indietronica had quite a humourous a chat with the duo.

Tell us a bit about One Bit.
We’re an electronic production duo consisting of Jonty Howard and Joe Murphy. We spend the vast majority of our time locked away in our home studio in Hertfordshire making all kinds of music.

When will you reveal your true identities?
Never! We’re like batman………….

Sum up your sound in 3 words.
Big Bitchin Bass.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?
We like to take influence from anything and everything so they’re pretty wide and varied! It’s a conscious decision that we’ve made so that we can stay creative with what we are doing – we often find the most interesting influences come from outside your own genre (if you can pick one!).

We love discovering new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to at the moment?
We also love finding new music! So much so that we have a monthly Spotify playlist where we talk about 10 new tracks each month – (One Bit Presents). But our two most played artists this month are probably Bombay Bicycle Club & Raleigh Ritchie.

We’re loving Bombay Bicycle Club – ‘Luna’. It gets stuck on the speakers in any downtime we have! Then Raleigh Ritchie – ‘Stronger Than Ever’ has been a killer find too, it’s always a great feeling when something you have been onto for a while starts blowing up on national radio!

What is next for you? Are you planning a tour?
Next in store for us is the release of our new single ‘Limitless’ which comes out on the 28th July with a whole host of remixes that we’re really excited about. Following that we’ve got a few festivals in the diary, Rhythms of the World (3rd Aug), UV festival (9th Aug) and Boardmasters (10th Aug).

We have no imminent tour plans, but have just got a really exciting booking agent on board so there are a lot of things coming together behind the scenes! We’ll be sure to keep everyone up to date as and when the pen hits the diary.

New track ‘Limitless’ is full of juicy bass lines. Listen below:

Sounds like: Clean Bandit, Le Youth, SOHN, Will Heard, Disclosure, Gorgon City, Lorde
