The xx – On Hold

The xx

The xx

Unless you’ve been living under a rock over the past week, you’ll know that The xx are back with a new single called ‘On Hold’, as well as the announcement of a new album and some shows.

The track samples ‘I Can’t Go For That (No Can Do)’ by Hall & Oates (we’re guessing that was Jamie‘s suggestion), all encompassed within an unpredictable melody.

The xx’s album, ‘I See You’, is out on 13 January 2017, and has been produced by Jamie, and Rodaidh McDonald.

Honne & Izzy Bizu – Someone That Loves You

Izzy Bizu

Izzy Bizu

Gentlemen duo, HONNE, have teamed up with fellow UK artist, 22 year old, Izzy Bizu.

They met over Twitter, and decided to write ‘Someone That Loves You’, a simmering cut of electro soul.

Izzy says of the song, “it’s a song all about how we want what we can’t have and how the grass is always greener”. Driven by the rich, affecting mix of male/female vocals, ‘Someone That Loves You’ is likewise described by HONNE as a song “fundamentally about forbidden love, but from both sides of the story.”

Izzy Bizu’s debut album ‘A Moment of Madness’ is now set for release on 22 July.

Secret Weapons – Something New

Secret Weapons

Secret Weapons

Now for ‘Something New’ from Brooklyn-based Secret Weapons.

Gerry Lange and Dan E. met in mathematics class and in 2014, they started making music together in secret until it was time to launch the duo that is Secret Weapons.

With influences from the ’80s, including Tears for Fears, Hall & Oates, and Cyndi Lauper, ‘Something New’ is a combination of electronic sounds from a former era with catchy indie pop that would definitely be classed as current.

We are also looking forward to the Haerts‘ remix of ‘Something New’, which will be out shortly.

Mackintosh Braun – Interview and We Ran Faster Then

Mackintosh Braun

Mackintosh Braun

Portland dreamy electro-duo, Mackintosh Braun releases ‘We Ran Faster Then’; a stunning electro track with dreamy vocals. The perfect end to a hectic bank holiday weekend.

We caught up with Ben…

How and why did you start making music?

We both started at a young age. Ian was a member of his family band growing up and was interested in song writing and production very early on, writing and producing his own music.

I (Ben) grew up around music my whole life. My dad played drums for Hall & Oates for over 20 years which spurred my interest in musicianship and songwriting. I’ve been producing and writing music since I got my first drum machine at 11.

We both love what writing brings out of us, and are very connected creatively on that front.

Describe your sound in three words.

nostalgic-future-pop.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?

We both grew up on Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Michael Jackson and Bowie. Some more current and constant inspirations include Holy Ghost!, Midnight Juggernauts and Phantogram.

We love new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to?

Some current favs are Tame Impala, Mew and Beach House. The music scene is vast and inspiring, so much to listen to these days.

What is next for you? Are you planning a tour?

Yes we are planning a tour and are exciting to get our new album Arcadia out to the world and play new songs for everyone. It’s going to a fun ride.

Listen below to ‘We Ran Faster Then’:

Sounds like: The Colourist, Cassettes Won’t Listen, Your Vegas, Holy Ghost!, Mew, Phantogram, Hey Champ, Washed Out, Summer Heart, M83

Honne – The Night

Honne

Honne

Honne is soulful electronic duo Andy (on vocals) and James (on production), who met on the first day of University in London.

The band-name Honne is a Japanese word with no Western equivalent for ‘true feelings’. Similar to Banks in their earthy tones and honest lyrics, Honne blends nocturnal R&B with a sensual sadness.

‘The Night’ has partnered the release of ‘All in The Value’ on 24 November 24 via Super Recordings (AlunaGeorge, Bondax). Listen below.
