Bad Wave – 1955

Bad Wave

A juxtaposing theme in Bad Wave‘s new single, ‘1955’; a “nostalgia for the future” if you will.

Much like the melodies within the song, ‘1955’ is split between the progression of the past and hope for the future with it’s echoey harmonies and rocky guitar riffs.

‘1955’ is out now via 10K Islands.

Sounds like: Phoenix, Death Cab for Cutie, GUSH, Hot Chip, The Foals, Two Door Cinema Club, Ghost Beach

Bad Wave – Extraordinary

Bad Wave

Bad Wave

Intermittent roommates-turned-best friends, Bad Wave, share the video for ‘Extraordinary’.

The track is a seemingly pleasant one to start, but it soon changes into a more sinister tone.

The name Bad Wave itself is taken from the Spanish phrase ‘mala onda’, which translates as “bad waves” but you can take it as meaning “bad vibes”. “We’re trying to spread good vibes though,” reassures Patrick.

By releasing their own anxieties through Bad Wave, these two only have great intentions.

The Ugly Club – Passengers

The Ugly Club

The Ugly Club

Apart from the obviously brilliant name, these guys have a pretty cool sound too.

The Ugly Club is a foursome that resides in Brooklyn, NYC.

The Ugly Club’s new track ‘Passengers’ is about escaping. Proceedings commence with steady synths (and the synths are key to the track’s European vibe), but this doesn’t last long as Ryan Egan’s rocky vocals gives the track some wings in prepartaion for the punchy guitar riffs that take over its passengers about half way through.

This is a seriously catchy tune. Give it a listen below.

Sounds like: The Midnight Hollow, Two Door Cinema Club, Phoenix, Chromeo, The Levity, Future Islands, GUSH, Labrinth

Indietronica wrote about ‘Fall in Love’ by duo Phantogram back in December.

‘Fall in Love’ is a powerful, heavy, track, with bass-driven pulsating sounds, and crunching synths reminiscent of Sleigh Bells. The drums are at times heading down a hip-hop route, all while Sarah Barthel’s vocals drive the melody, pulling the layered sounds together in this really cool track.
