FRAME – Love Wasted

FRAME

FRAME

Using music as her drive and passion, drummer-turned-producer, FRAME (aka Caitlin Frame) shares ‘Love Wasted’; the first single from her nine-track album.

FRAME explains, “When I wrote this song I felt secure and balanced with the love I had, but being in an open relationship created space to feel an obsessive and all-encompassing lust at the same time. When those feelings became entangled and borderless it was easy to act out of impulse.”

The album was engineered and produced entirely by Caitlin, while the instrumentation was collaboratively recorded by members of her live band. Mixer Andy Baldwin (Hearts, St. Lucia) added the finishing touches.

Saint Best – In The Morning

SAINT BEST

SAINT BEST

Copenhagen-based quartet, SAINT BEST debut the video for ‘In The Morning’; also a tribute to 1985 Japanese cult film, ‘Tampopo’.

Usually a time for the most weary, this energetic synth-pop number will get you dancing straight out of bed. And this pretty much sums up the SAINT BEST ethos; always seeing the positive in things and not holding back as there will always be tomorrow.

When their rehearsal space burned to the ground, along with all of their instruments, the foursome saw this as a new beginning, and thus began the new sound of SAINT BEST. The ruined guitars were substituted with synthesisers and samples. Inspired by nu-disco and new wave, SAINT BEST decided to make danceable electro-pop. “We were looking for a new dynamic sound and got together around a percussion and synth-driven sound universe”.

‘In The Morning’ is released via Fake Diamond Records.

Playlist: Dragonette

Dragonette

Dragonette

It’s not always about the girls, but sometimes it is.

The lovely Dragonette have put together a playlist for us called “Indietronica – an indie pop girls only mix”.

Listen below!

Santigold – Can’t Get Enough Of Myself (feat. B.C)
I was told that this song was inspired by an Iranian disco song from the 80’s. I’ve been listening to a lot of world music and I love how well they mashed this up. So unique.

Lucius – Born Again Teen
I feel deeply in love with Lucius’ first record. There are so many awesome songs on this new one of theirs Good Grief. But I’m choosing “Born Again Teen” on our playlist because i think its such an strange arrangement. Where’s the chorus!? I don’t know! Who cares?

Dua Lipa – Be The One
Every time I go back to London to work with other musicians I learn about artists who are up-and-coming over there. Last time I was there it was Dua Lipa. Maybe everybody already knows her but I just discovered her and I love the vibe of this tune.

Niki & The Dove – Coconut Kisses
Niki & The Dove’s The Drummer is one of my favourite indie pop albums of all times. I’ve been waiting a long time for their follow up. It almost reminds me of Empire Of The Sun. But with Stevie Nicks‘ voice.

Christine And The Queens – iT
My friend showed me this song the other day, I don’t know anything else of theirs. It’s the beginning of a new love I suspect.

Petite Meller – Barbaric
I think she’s a style genius. We played a show with her in Florence and I drank her up like pink lemonade.

Sounds like: Niki & The Dove, Charli XCX, Gwen Stefani, Icona Pop, OH Land, Little Boots, Girl Friend

Girl Friend – Waste My Time

Girl Friend - Waste My Time

Girl Friend – Waste My Time

The Manchester four piece, Girl Friend, are back with a new release, ‘Waste My Time’.

The track has been produced with dance producer LVTHER (of the Monstercat label), which may explain the dominant disco tones, however despite the appearance of an upbeat track, ‘Waste My Time’ has selfish connotations, “written from the perspective of a frustrated lover, constantly kept at arms length by the person they desire the most. Despite the emotional neglect, they still find themselves ‘dreaming up schemes’ to inspire change.”

Landon Williams – Tonight

Landon Williams

Landon Williams

A debut from another talented male singer. The boys are giving the girls are running for their money at the moment.

This time it’s the funky ‘Tonight’ from Landon Williams, which was produced and co-written by PJ Bianco (Demi Lovato, LP, Nick Jonas).

Landon (who was brought up on a cattle ranch, of all places) likes to combine old school influences (Van MorrisonMarvin Gaye, The Rolling Stones, John Mayer) with contemporary vibes.

Of the track, Landon says, ‘Tonight’ is about what might happen if “Foster the People and MGMT were to pick up Lana Del Rey at a club.” He adds “ The song has multiple vibes being happy and upbeat yet looming with a dark edge, which I feel sonically conveys how any good thing can fade or relapse.”

Sounds like: GIRL FRIEND, Sillyboy, Kid Astray

Girl Friend – You Lead The Way

Girl Friend

Girl Friend

Manchester’s GIRL FRIEND releases ‘You Lead The Way’.

It is a theatrical and juxtaposing track that speaks of self-deprecation, but still manages to sound like a modern interpretation of a Balearic track from the late 90’s.

We like it a lot.

The track is taken from the ‘Arrive Alone, Leave Alone’ EP, which will be released via Tri-Tone on 27 April.

Sounds like: Kid Astray, Swiss Lips, Bastille
