joan – Magnetic

joan

New single ‘Magnetic’ from Arkansas duo joan is the result of an almost fairytale story of how the band came together. Working in separate projects at the time, the two first met at a show performing in different groups and became fast friends.

Steven from joan tells us “this song is sentimental. We started writing together while we were still in two separate projects. When I heard Alan working on “magnetic” for his band in the studio, I fell in love with it. we joked back and forth for several years about making it a joan song.”

The pure pop ballad is the band’s second single release of 2020, full of catchy hooks and gorgeous harmonies, the track builds nicely culminating in a memorable final chorus with attractive adlibs from the boys. If you’re going to listen to one new track this weekend, make sure it’s this one.

Saint Nomad – Nothing to Lose

Saint Nomad by Sean Hagwell

Saint Nomad by Sean Hagwell

Following the success of their debut album release – sibling trio Saint Nomad has returned with ‘Nothing to Lose’.

The US-based ‘Band of Brothers’ describes their music as “a celebration of living life in light of the fact that nothing lasts forever” and that’s exactly the vibe that comes out of this latest record.

Lyrically, the record discusses the idea of setting a plan in motion and finding a purpose to one’s existence, whilst sonically, the track builds beautifully, beginning with subtle soft layers of vocals and a gorgeous guitar tone, slowly bringing in other instruments in the intro faux chorus.

As we continue on the 2:44 journey with ‘Nothing to Lose,’ we are treated to new elements with each section, adding complex layers of guitar, new backing vocals all culminating with a Mew like girthy rock guitar filling out the final anthemic chorus.

Having been on the road for the majority of their musical lives, you can expect to see a great show from Saint Nomad when the global pandemic comes to its end.

The Wild Wild – Caspian

The Wild Wild

The Wild Wild

Benjamin Dunn is better known as The Wild Wild.

The Wild Wild found a lot of inspiration from an array of opposing influences, whilst spending time on a California beach and his new album has the ability to make it feel you’re sat there right next to him. Benjamin worked tirelessly in the studio with close friends and producers who each helped to add extra levels of sentiment to the album.

The Wild Wild’s new song ‘Caspian’ showcases Benjamin’s powerful song writing, with its soaring vocals over a dazzling indie backdrop. It also takes influence from the Prince Caspian novel by C.S. Lewis.

‘Into The Sea, Into The Stars’ is available via a 2-disc CD album, vinyl and for download from the 11 December.

SP¡ON – Sunset

SP¡ON

SP¡ON

It’s not all about Sweden. Norway also has some incredible music to offer.

One of our ones to watch for 2016 is SP¡ON; a newly formed and highly talented Norwegian electronic trio with all three of its members scattered across different cities throughout Europe.

The first member of SPiON is based in Bergen and has a background in animation; the second is a music producer and songwriter currently working out of London. Co-writes and credits to date include Aurora, Sinead Harnett, Pusha T, Max Marshall, and MNEK. The final member is based in Copenhagen developing sounds and music purposefully for video games.

Although the trio have been collaborating together musically since 2007, ‘Sunset’ is the first track to be revealed under the SPiON moniker. It features the vocals of Ina Sagstuen, an established jazz singer currently basing herself in Oslo, as well as an incredibly atmospheric vocal section from Sølvguttene, the Norwegian National Broadcastings (Norwegian equivalent of the BBC) official choir.
