Pompeya – Somebody Else

Pompeya

Despite working on music for many years, it finally feels like Russian quartet, Pompeya have found their place.

‘Somebody Else’ is a track taken from their ‘Domino’ EP, produced by esteemed French producer, Fred Falke, and features retro vocals and upbeat funk riffs, lovingly glazed over tropical production. Quite reminiscent of an early Yeasayer.

Listen below.

The EP is out now on Mishu Records and available on iTunes.

Petite Noir – Chess

Petite Noir

Petite Noir

Petite Noir is South African Yannick Ilunga. You may recognise his name; he was the front man of electronic band, Popskarr and advocate of Capital of Cool.

The new track ‘Chess’ is produced by Luke Smith (Foals, Depeche Mode). The lyrics were constructed following an instant message conversation that Noir had on the day of recording. The new lyrics, rewritten about the demise of a relationship, instantly replaced the original lyrics Noir was preparing to record that very day.

The accompanying video was directed by Cieron Magat and was inspired by the works of Ghanaian photographer, Philip Kwame Apagya. Watch the video below:

The track has been taken from the forthcoming ‘King of Anxiety EP’, which is released 19 January 2015 via Domino’s sister label, Double Six.

Pre order on iTunes now to download ‘Chess’.

Wild Beasts – Wanderlust

Wild Beasts

The new Wild Beasts track is a pure indietronica delight. With swimming synth pulsations, and a highly unusual tempo beat, ‘Wanderlust’ is full of poetic lyrics, poking fun at British bands singing in American accents. The tuneful choral background vocals add a layer of urgency, which is accompanied by a music video depicting four characters running against a stark, colourless backdrop while increasingly restrictive obstacles and weather gets in their way.

With the distinctive falsetto voice of Hayden Thorpe loved and hated by all, Wild Beasts’ songwriting abilities are unquestionably brilliant. Wanderlust is no exception. To book tickets for their upcoming EU/US/UK tour, go to their website.

Wanderlust is the first track off their third album ‘Present Tense‘, which is out on Domino on 24 February. Pre-order here.

Sounds like; Foals, Antony & the Johnsons, Twin Shadow, Dutch Uncles

Jon Hopkins – Breathe This Air feat. Purity Ring

Jon Hopkins

Jon Hopkins

Jon Hopkins is a London-based electronic producer. His album, ‘Immunity’ has been shortlisted for this year’s Mercury Music Prize.

The album features the dusty techno track ‘Breathe This Air’ which has been reworked by Hopkins and now features the choral vocals of Purity Ring‘s Megan James.

The beautiful yet eerie video, directed by Anthony Dickenson, silently follows a story of two parallels. One of a young woman who is cleansing herself in a lake after suffering a loss, and one of a hunter who appears to be struggling during the aftermath of a car crash in which he has injured a deer.

The story lines unfold throughout the track until the abrupt ending. Watch below:

You can listen to the original ‘Breathe This Air’ on ‘Immunity’, which was released on 3 June 2013 via Domino Records.

Sounds like: Purity Ring, Lusine, Apparat, Gold Panda, Tycho, Ulrich Schnauss
