LCAW – Staring at the Sun

LCAW

LCAW (aka 22 year old Leon Weber) is sharing an interesting message in his new track ‘Staring at the Sun’, which features the lush vocal tones of New York City-based singer/songwriter, Sophie Hintze.

LCAW says,

“‘Staring At The Sun’ has a clear message – If you feel trapped in a place or a situation you need to break free, pack up your things and just go. The Sun is quite symbolic in this picture, on the one hand it stands for hope, a better future, adventure; and on the other hand it is a burden. Staring directly at the sun for too long blinds you, leaving you on a path without navigation. The lyrics embrace a loss of direction. Hypnotised by yellow lines, moving faster than the speed of light, renegades without a plan. In the end it’ll be worth it.”

It’s out now via Ultra Records / Columbia Records.

Nimmo – UnYoung

NIMMO by Fiona Garden

NIMMO by Fiona Garden

Nimmo are a unique electronic five-piece who can be traced back to the decade-long friendship of co-vocalists (and football-obsessives) Sarah Nimmo and Reva Gauntlett.

Citing 80’s and 90’s pop influences from the likes of Tears for Fears, New Order, and Everything But The Girl, as well as jungle, and drum n bass, Nimmo have immersed themselves not only with the sounds of the club culture, but also located the moods of aggression, energy and heartache within that which would add depth to their songwriting.

Having already collaborated with Tim Goldsworthy (DFA) and Maya Jane Coles, they have now teamed up with Boxed In (aka Oli Bayston) for more of an infectious pop track with ‘UnYoung’.

Lyrically, the band describe ‘UnYoung’ as “a song about the fear of our parents or loved ones in general dying, and only being remembered in photographs on a mantelpiece. As the instrumentation progressed, ‘UnYoung’ became a celebration of your family and just being alive.”

Nimmo have been shortlisted for MTV Brand New 2016. The annual showcase for MTV Brand New 2016 will be at the Electric Ballroom, London on 27 January.

‘UnYoung’ is out early 2016 via Columbia Records.

Sounds like: Boxed In, Years & Years, Everything But The Girl, Lucas Nord, Honne, Sivu, Jata

RÜFÜS – You Were Right

Back in Sydney from a writing trip away in Berlin, and radio-ready, RÜFÜS offer up new single, ‘You Were Right’.

It’s a track about unrequited longing for someone (we’ve all been there!).

Vocalist Tyrone explains: “We got home after being away for 5 months, we’d spent the last part of that locked up in this special little apartment in Friedrichshain that we turned into our studio. But, it was so cold that we were rarely leaving the apartment….so coming home to summer in Sydney, being surrounded by the familiarity of everything that being home entails, we were suddenly approaching song writing in a different way, both technically and emotionally. We were able to unlock a different side to our writing.”

The track is out on 17 August on Columbia Records
