Playlist: So Below

So Below

We’ve been fans of New Zealand talent, So Below, for a while now.

We wanted to find out what helps So Below write her incredibly reflective, dark electronic pop, so what better way than her expressing it in a playlist?

“In this playlist I feel like a have a memory or feeling associated with each song, they all have a nostalgic quality to them. Like The Dodos track for example makes me think of sitting on my mums roof at her old house in Auckland and drinking beers with my friends in summer. Or the Trentemoller track makes me think of waiting at the bus stop for the bus to go to work and its pouring down with rain. All such great songs!”

Sounds like: Raindear, Kate Boy, The Naked And Famous, MUNA, Ofelia K, Monogem, Bo Rocha

BLAKEY – Prism of Love

BLAKEY

Emerging London-based artist, BLAKEY, shares the simple but effective video for ‘Prism Of Love’.

The track is sparse at its core – a seesaw between BLAKEY’s velveteen falsetto/baritone interludes that melt alongside a graceful instrumental.

Opening up about ‘Prism Of Love’, Blakey states,

“It’s a very direct song. I put my most authentic and honest feelings to music. Sometimes I think it’s important to cut through all the bullshit and present exactly how you’re feeling, and not filter yourself for anything or anyone. It’s not vulnerability; it’s liberation.”

Playlist: XY&O

XY&O

XY&O

After being heckled at a recent XY&O show, we decided to get the guys onboard with a playlist to show us what they’re all about.

XY&O’s current release, ‘Chameleon’, is about social anxiety, and with that in mind, this playlist is in a bid to help you overcome any social anxiety that you may be suffering.

Daughter – Doing The Right Thing
The atmosphere these guys create in their songs is so hypnotic. I found the lyrics to this song to be particularly emotive after reading up on their meaning.

Mura Masa – Lovesick
We recently attended one of his gigs and the talent on this kid blows us away. He’s bringing something so fresh to the electronic music table.

Rufus – Innerbloom
A 9 minute epic that feels like it lasts for a lifetime and a few seconds at the same time. We can’t wait for their next return to the UK

Coldplay – In My Place
One of my favourite bands of all time. Almost impossible to pick a single song so I simply chose the one that was playing while I wrote this :)

Aqualung (aka Matt Hales) has announced ‘Be Beautiful’ featuring the vocal talent, Luke Sital-Singh. The single is accompanied with an flawless, partly animated video directed by Scott Peters.

No longer strange, but just beautiful, ‘Be Beautiful’ originally intended as a “let’s get back together” kind of song took a philosophical turn in the verses and became more a rallying cry.
