isle&fever – Keep Working

isle&fever

It’s been a while since we’ve written about some Los Angeles-based nu-disco.

Born from Echo Park, isle&fever are a duo who have a pretty simple way of recording music – “pass around vintage instruments and the mic until a vibe catches. Rinse, Repeat.” – and it appears this method is working as their last single reached number 1 on Hype Machine.

Their latest endeavour is called ‘Keep Working’ and it takes you on a jazz infused, sonic journey. Listen below.

The Knocks – Trouble Feat. Absofacto

The Knocks - Trouble

The Knocks – Trouble

Noisy New York electronic dance duo and remix gurus, The Knocks, have shared their summery track ‘Trouble’, featuring Absofacto.

Of the track, The Knocks say,

“We originally wrote “Trouble” with Abso in NYC at our studio as a slow, piano ballad, at 90 bpm. The idea was to write something that felt melancholy and classic. After we laid down the original idea, he left and we started experimenting with it – treating it like a sample – totally chopping it up and flipping it. This is the same way we approach some of our earlier songs like “Dancing With The DJ” and “Make it Better” so it was cool to go back to that formula while making a sound that was new and fresh.”

‘Trouble’ is out on Big Beat/Neon Gold and is the first single from their forthcoming EP ‘TESTIFY’, released on 3 February.

Playlist: Jason Gaffner

Jason Gaffner

Jason Gaffner

Los Angeles-based resident, Jason Gaffner, creates danceable, disco-funk tunes with highly emotional content.

His latest release is called ‘Feel Something’, and it’s written about how just one person can make you drop your barriers and learn to love again.

In a bid to get to grips with how Jason manages to balance vulnerability in his music with upbeat vibes, we asked him to put together a playlist for us comprised of his current, favourite songs.

Drona & Nanok – Horizons
I love this song because it really hooked me almost instantly with the vocal production and bass tones.

TV Noise – Think feat Jessame
Just has so much going on that I like. Great vocal production and really cool samples. Fun & funky gets me every time! haha : )

Sam Padrul – Hold On Me feat Mammals
I might me a little biased because I played all the sweet funky guitars on this track, but I think it came together wonderfully. Very good for wrapping up summer.

Jazz Morley – Take Me Down (New Immunity Remix)
Kind of has that looking off into the sunset driving down the coast vibe to it.

THANKS – Dizzy
Like Justice meets Daft Punk— what’s not to like? Will be doing some music with these guys in the future as well! : )

Ark Patrol – Trouble feat. Josh Rubin
Like when you’re wandering aimlessly through a quiet neighborhood on a summer night.

Farleon – Tell Me feat. Jason Gaffner
Yes. Shameless self promotion. But really I think this is a song that will be around for summers to come. I envision this in some sort of 2017 Ray Bans commercial with lots of beautiful beach shots.

Iman Omari – Take Away feat. Good Joon
Love that guitar line. Seriously so dope. We were in the studio trying to figure out if that was a real guitar or a synth for like 3 hrs the other day haha

Lenno – All Eyes On Us
I really don’t understand how this has only 13k plays on soundcloud. I’m perturbed by this fact haha. Anyways LOVE this track. Lenno and I are also working on some music together!

SOHN – Signal
Really this song is just fucking awesome on so many levels. Vibessss : )

Sounds like: RAC, Flight Facilities, Goldroom, NVDES, Raeko, Chromeo

Pope – Dance The Night Away

Pope - Dance The Night Away

Pope – Dance The Night Away

Meet Pope.

Born in the 80’s to two classically trained concert pianists and grandson to a classically trained jazz pianist, Pope has been surrounded by music since birth.

Whilst growing up, Pope inevitably formed a love for the piano, and started developing his own sound as a DJ, producer, and vocalist.

The result is a sound that merges soul and electronica, with a feel-good funk factor.

His video for ‘Dance The Night Away’ shows people feeling free and expressing themselves by dancing in the street.

Sounds like: Chromeo, Supertramp, Calvin Harris

Favorite Child – Just Wanna Belong

Favourite Child

Favourite Child

Rebel pop group, Favorite Child release the funky number ‘Just Wanna Belong’, featuring the vocals of Eric Rapp. Slightly ironic, as Favorite Child don’t really appear to be bothered if they fit in or not;

“We have an almost childish approach to putting songs together that really defines our style. As musicians, we reached the point where we no longer care about what’s expected from us. It’s part of ‘why don’t we try this, might sound cool?’ and part ‘fuck you we won’t do what you tell us’. It’s sort of like the rebel and the mad scientist in perfect harmony.”

‘Just Wanna Belong’ will be released later this spring via Roxy Recordings. Go get!

Sounds like: Tove Lo, Icona Pop, Erik Hassle, Chromeo

Gypsy & The Cat – Inside Your Mind

Gypsy & The Cat

Gypsy & The Cat

Gypsy & The Cat are back and they mean business. If their new release ‘Inside Your Mind’ doesn’t tell you that, then you quite frankly don’t deserve to listen to the Australian duo.

We have the usual punchy falsettos and dreamy synths that Gypsy & The Cat have thrown our way before, but their new material has the benefit of an acoustic guitar and cultural influence from their recent travels in Japan.

‘Inside Your Mind’ has also been mixed by mixed by the legend that is Dave Fridmann (Tame Impala, MGMT, Neon Indian, The Flaming Lips).

Sounds like: Empire of The Sun, Cut Copy, Pistol Shrimp, Ghost Beach, Sir Sly, Jagwar Ma, Day Wave, Miike Snow, Bag Raiders, Small Pools, Chromeo
