Mafalda – Goodbyes

Mafalda

We are loving the husky vocal tones of London-native Mafalda and brisk piano keys in her current single ‘Goodbyes’.

The beautifully constructed ballad is easily something you’d hear in the charts, possibly as a result of Mafalda’s recent work with UK and US based producers.

Alexx Mack -Your Car Feat. EXES

Alexx Mack - Your Car

After a brief hiatus, Alexx Mack returns to our stereos with her latest release ‘Your Car’, featuring EXES.

Alexx took the year long break to rediscover herself and her music, and the break has done her good. The reformed sound is ruminating and lustrous, everything a modern, dark synth-pop song should be.

A stripped-back and easy house melody bounces throughout the song, as the Californian duo blend Middle Eastern production with the warm and commercial vocals of Deanna.

Matt Wills – Lights Out

Matt Wills

Matt Wills has backing from all walks of musical life, so who are we to disagree?

Although Matt seeks collaborations from those in electronic music and grime scenes, ‘Lights Out’ is right up Indietronica’s street.

The video has been directed by Chris Parton and firmly showcases Matt’s knack for putting together an incredibly hook with romantic vocals and on point production.

Low Island – The Lines

Low Island

Oxford quartet Low Island share the cleverly choreographed and colourful video for ‘The Lines’, which has a distinct 90’s vibe to it.

It features young dancer Olly Bell and focuses “on the current states of anger, protectionism, division and paranoia that have become so prevalent in today’s society.”

Florda Well – High Love

Florda Well

Meet Canada-based psych-pop band Florda Well.

Despite the deliciously boozy bass-lines and woozy vocals in ‘High’ that conjure up feelings of warm stoner summers, the song was written and recorded during the coldest and darkest part of the year, which is only a testament to Florda Well for their positive outlook.

Sounds like: Tame Impala, MGMT, Goldroom

Billie Eilish – hostage

Billie Eilish

Exciting pop star, Billie Eilish shares her latest track called ‘hostage’.

It’s a stripped back song, but despite its all acoustic feel, and much like all of Billie’s music, there is a darker side, as she explains “”hostage” is a song that borders on and explores the unhealthy side of love. Billie points out “when you are so in love that you feel like you can’t be without them and you can’t see them with someone else. It is not a healthy feeling but I think everyone feels it at some point.”

Her “dont smile at me” EP is out now via Darkroom/Interscope Records and has been produced by Billie’s 19-year-old brother Finneas O’Connell.

Sounds like: Dua Lipa, Astronomyy, Ella Vos, Tempers, Charlotte Cardin

Caswell – Brother

Caswell

Music is a way to tackle unresolved issues and reach out to the ones you love, both for a writer and listener.

Caswell is doing just that with a very open letter to her ‘Brother’.

As you would expect, it’s powerful and engaging, as Caswell’s unmistakable, ethereal vocals form a distinct jazz melody over a Whirlitzer piano and Mellotron, and the sudden waves of heavy synths and brass, push and pull the listener through the journey with her.

Cleverly the production at the start and end of the track also emulates that of a typewriter.

Disclosure: I am Caswell’s publicist at the time of writing.

Sounds like: Låpsley, Skott, Lorde, Charlotte Cardin, Jorja Smith, JONES, Ray BLK, Sigrid, Maggie Rogers

Caswell – Animal

Caswell

Caswell

Meet Caswell, London’s latest soul sensation, who attended the BRIT School during her teen years, no less.

Now, at just 22, Caswell has already developed her own distinct sound; rich, down-tempo, electronic soul and pop, with a tangible jazz influence; and a knack for sophisticated songwriting.

“I draw from my own personal experiences,” says Caswell. “I find that’s when I really need to write. It’s very much a form of catharsis for me and I like having created something positive like a song out of something negative that has happened in my life. Sometimes it helps me find closure and listening back to songs is like seeing the little milestones of my life.”

As the title of her new track suggests, ‘Animal’ is a song of empowerment, immediately leading us to compare her to the likes of Jorja Smith and JONES.
