WEIRDO – Sapphire

Weirdo by James Perolls

Weirdo by James Perolls

“Hey everybody. I’m the WEIRDO” declared Josh Christopher (formerly of Brighton duo, IYES) earlier today on his Facebook page.

We’ll let you into a little secret, we kind of already knew that WEIRDO was the project of the now Berlin-based producer, but it’s still exciting that he’s finally announced it to the world.

So now that the news is out, will we learn everything possible about the WEIRDO project through the realms of social media? Not quite.

Josh still appears to be maintaining some mystery, having slightly concealed his face on the dark blue track cover of new track ‘Sapphire’ (which also features some awesome drumming skills of Debbie Knox-Hewson (also Charli XCX‘s drummer)), and throughout the song, there is also an uncertainty as to whether the sapphire really is as beautiful as first thought.

Listen below.

Sounds like: Phil Collins, Metronomy

Combining all the brilliant elements of pop (Florence Welch-esque vocals; minimalistic, but bass-laden production; and feminine melodies), her debut single, ‘Concrete Jungle’ is highly accomplished.

Au/Ra has spent her childhood living on islands (born in Ibiza, and raised in Antigua), but has decided to write a track about growing up in a city.

‘Concrete Jungle’ is out now via 0E0E.

NEDA – Prehistoric Love

NEDA

NEDA

NEDA (aka Tenielle Neda) is an Australian songstress with a huge background in music.

Having worked with Mark Myers (The Middle East, Emma Louise), Wayne Connelly (Boy and Bear, Cloud Control) and most recently Neal Sutherland (Bertie Blackman), NEDA is now independent and sharing her new material, which includes ‘Prehistoric Love’; a track written with Perth duo, The Opposite Kids.

What struck us the most with this song is her original vocals, playing carefully with minimalistic beats.

Her second EP is set to drop later this year.

Harper – SKIN

Harper

Harper

Hot on the sexy heels of Dua Lipa is uk R&B artist, Harper.

‘SKIN’ is another sultry number with a pulsing electro beat and addictive hook.

Harper describes the track as ‘an earthy, raw, alt-pop record with a much deeper concept than you may perceive from first impressions. I wanted to write about the properties of ‘skin’; how it’s our protective barrier from the world, it’s power to heal when cut, and apply that sentiment to my love for a person.’

Her EP will be out via ICU Label.

Sounds like: Dua Lipa, Rihanna, Banks, Sizzy Rocket, Charli XCX
