Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Phil Good has unveiled an official remix of his latest single ‘Everything’s Good’ from DJ and producer Slow Magic.

He’s kindly taken time out of his busy schedule and put together an ace playlist, which you can listen to below.

Charli XCX, BJ Burton – 7 years
I’ve been falling hard for Charli’s music in the last few years. It’s so aggressively pop and so aggressively experimental, and I feel like no one can do it like she does. This song blows my mind.

Sylvan Esso – Ferris Wheel
Sylvan Esso is one of my favorite bands. I loved their last record “what now?” and was so excited to hear this song “Ferris Wheel” as their first single off the upcoming album. its everything I love about them wrapped into 2:58.

Deaton Chris Anthony – I love all my friends
This song gives me Francis and the Lights vibes but in such a cool and youthful way. I think Deaton Chris Anthony is such a creative force and I love this song.

Flume, Toro Y Moi – The Difference
This song makes me feel all of my feelings and memories from this life and my past 236 lives combined. Something about the sounds and Toro’s voice just gets me goin’.

Phil Good – Everything’s Good (Slow Magic Remix)
This is my song remixed by Slow Magic. I love how he took the previously upbeat and guitar-driven song to a totally new world. makes it a bit sadder and I love me a sad song.

Dijon – rock n roll
I’ve never heard anything like this before and every time I listen there’s something new and fresh for me to discover. The guitar is amazing and his vocals melt my soul.

Toro Y Moi – Who I Am
This is one of my favs on Toro’s latest album “Outer Peace”. I love that this song is so upbeat and simple but the closer you listen to it, the more that gets revealed. It makes me want to party.

Caribou – like I loved you
Another sad bop with the craziest production. I love the synthesized bass/guitar sound and the drums hit harder than a 20-foot bong.

Jim-E Stack, Empress Of – Note To Self
I found Jim-E Stack less than a year ago and then proceeded to listen to his whole discography non-stop for a few weeks. This song embodies everything I love about his production and sound. Makes me feel like going on a road trip.

The 1975 – I Like America & America Likes Me
I love The 1975. I didn’t really care for this song when listening to their album “a brief inquiry..” the first few times, but then I saw them play this live and watched him scream his soul into autotune and it made me cry. Now this song is one of my all-time favs.

Roosevelt by Joseph Strauch

Our favourite producer Roosevelt (aka Marius Lauber) returns with the first new single since his sophomore album ‘Young Romance’ in 2018, and we are OBSESSED.

The new single ‘Sign’ focuses on all things digital, as luscious drum and vocal loops lead us into his spine-tingling world of early house and vintage synth-pop. Sparse and dazzling at the same time, ‘Sign’ is a prime example of Roosevelt’s deft craftsmanship.

Speaking about the emotive new track, he explains,

“I wanted to make something intimate, so I started with these spherical Juno 60 chords. When I added rhythmical elements, I realised that the track could work in a dance music world – I normally record a lot of real drums but stripped this one back to just an 808 beat. A nice contrast between the intimate feeling of the synth and the dancefloor qualities of the vocal sample, bass line and 808 started to emerge. I found it really inspiring to make something that’s initially made for listening alone on your headphones, but that hopefully can come alive in the near future when played out at a dance club or festival and create a form of unity again.”

Nashville bootgaze/indie-rock outfit Creature Comfort share the fuzzy ‘Arcade Fire’.

Not to be confused with the track ‘Creature’ Comfort’ by the band Arcade Fire (a cheeky nod to Arcade Fire unexpectedly releasing ‘Creature Comfort on the same day Clark and his bandmates performed at Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in 2017), this is a psychedelic explosion with wavy electric guitar and unrelenting percussion.

TENDER - 6 In The Morning

After a hiatus, TENDER returns with ‘6 In The Morning’, showing a slightly new direction for the duo.

Stripping it back to basics, James Cullen and Dan Cobb’s new release is upfront and at times, takes an unnerving dive into self-reflection.

“The track ‘6 in the Morning’ is about the bitter, petty end to a relationship, where both parties do things to push the other away,” says Cullen. “Avoiding being the one to call it off, they intend to do things to make the other break. When the relationship finally ends, it brings relief.”

“We have all been in those situations, where it seems easier to stay in a bitter and toxic environment instead of just calling it off. It’s like pulling off a plaster. The slower you do it, the more pain it causes.”

Roland Tings – Up Close

Roland Tings is one of our favourite Australian producers of the moment.

A euphoric number at its heart, ‘Up Close’ by Roland Tings is the third single to be taken from his forthcoming ‘Salt Water’ LP, and a reassuring late-night potion.

Speaking on the process behind ‘Up Close’ and its positioning on the album, Tings explains, “I knew that I needed a really euphoric track in the first half of the record to propel the LP forwards. When I heard the original vocal by Alyss, I knew that it was perfect for what I wanted. The production of her voice was psychedelic, and the lyrics fit with exactly what I wanted the record to say.”

Inspired by life on the road, Newman decided to record much of the new album in relative isolation from a rented home on the Great Ocean Road near Melbourne. Immersed in his studio and buried in his work, he came up for air and returned to the environments that first inspired the album. “I put the demo on my phone and drove around the winding coastal road near my house, making mental notes on how it felt as I drove,” he says. “I could hear everything that needed to happen in the track. I rushed home, made the changes and then got in the car again. I repeated this for hours, driving this crazy road away from my house, then back again to make the changes I could hear in my head.”

‘Up Close’ is out now via Sony/Cascine.

An obscure Japanese record now reissued and having a bit a of a resurgence, lovely Balearic vibe!

Eurythmics – Take Me To Your Heart
I had never dug into Eurythmics until recently, this tune gets me every time. I found this tune when looking through things Holger Cuzkay had worked on, his freaky stamp is all over it

John Maus – Bennington
This John Maus track came out a long time ago but still sounds super fresh, amazing dreamy synths and vocal combo in typical monotone Maus style

Suicide – Cheree
The original innovators of electronic indie music, New York duo Suicide did it all before everyone else

Doug Hream Blunt – Caribbean Queen
This is such an evocative song, really send you out there into the Caribbean!

Ruins – Elegant Shout
Not sure how I came by this one, it has a few of my favourite things going, freaked out organ drum machines, big synth lines and new waves vocals.

Jaakko Eino Kalevi – I Wann Win
Freak disco at its finest. Jaakko Eino Kalevi, I love this song since I first heard it on Beats In Space almost 10 years ago. One of the all-time great sax solos!

Baba Stiltz – Can’t Help It
Keeping it Scandinavian, Baba Stiltz is another all-time favourite. You never really know what he’s gonna do next, my money is on a country record.

Vanderschrick – Ongehoord
A deep and weird dubbed out droner from Vanderschrick, an 80s referencing post-punk vibe out on the exceptional Stroom label from Germany.

AC Marias – Just Talk
This is the real deal, shoegazing and ethereal pop from Wire collaborator Angela Conway from the mid-80s

Roland Tings – Always Rushing Feat. Mild Minds
Had to include my new one! It pales in comparison to the masterpieces in this playlist, but hopefully, you can hear where I’m coming from with this list of great songs!
