Playlist: AMiR

AMiR

Born in North-London to a Punjabi father and a mother from the Midlands, AMiR has always had a burning passion for music. Since a young age, music has been the only path for the gifted performer. Starting with the drums, he soon found music an addiction taking on the guitar and piano. Since then, he’s worked to become the complete musician.

Ahead of his BBC Introducing performance at this year’s Glastonbury, AMiR puts together a playlist of rising artists to watch out for.

Ta’Shan – Foodie
This song is awesome. Proud of who she is and won’t change for anything. Respect.

Buzzard Buzzard Buzzard – Late Night City
I just love the rock n roll. No-nonsense guitar pop. Wild stage movements and sick harmonies.

Isaiah Dreads – White Tee
Love the flow and the beat is simple and infectious. Confident summer jam

Easy Life – Nightmares
I’ve known about these guys for a while. The song to me says we all got problems. Everyone says we should talk more but no one gives a f*** about my nightmares.

Ferris and Sylvester – Burning River
Their togetherness vocal is awesome. So in sync and love listening to it.

Billy Lockett – Fading Into Grey
This song spoke to me cos I’ve been here before. Overthinking ruining a good thing.

Celeste – Lately
This vocal music combo makes me make that “filth” face. The flow of her rhythm and voice just sit perfectly to me. It swings.

APRE – All Yours
Love the guitar at the beginning and then the immediacy of the vocal catches you and keeps you there and the guitar line is a hook in itself.

Gus Harvey – Bliss
Really strange backward beat and horror film voice with the electronics. Never heard anything like it.

Kudu Blue – Call Out
Vocal and flow make me feel it. then it drops and pumps your heart. The song I imagine if you stop breathing, the adrenaline brings you back. Beautiful song.

Lauran Hibbard – Call Shotgun
It’s quite punk and that reminds me of my childhood. No frills just here it is. I love that.

Monster Florence – Beautiful Death
Flows and the bars are so real about each of the MCs. My head was bopping and heart beating.

XamVolo – Lose Love
It oozes funk. Anyone who knows me knows I’m all about that funk. The drums and the guitars with simple bass and vocals sit beautifully on top of that.

Sounds like: Trey Songz, The Weeknd, Bruno Mars, Years & Years, Olly Murs

Axel Mansoor – Out Of My Head

Axel Mansoor

Los Angeles Axel Mansoor has just shared the reflective ‘Out Of My Head’.

Axel’s light vocals and soft clicks gently easy you in before reaching a celebratory pop chorus that represents a release of shackles from ones inner critic, or as Axel puts it,

“It’s an anthem about coming to terms with the chips that we stack on our shoulders and letting them go.”

Sounds like: Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, Bruno Mars

Leon Else – Dance

Leon Else

Leon Else

Moving his way into our hearts is British-born musician and trained dancer, Leon Else, and the video for his new release called ‘Dance’.

Much like depression, the beats in the retro-ridden track are erratic and unpredictable, but Leon pushes through to his own drum, exclaiming, “The song is about dancing as a way to make depression go away…It is about how music can be like medicine and finding ways to get through life by yourself. For me, that’s moving and being physical.”

‘Dance’ is out now via Interscope Records.

Sounds like: Bruno Mars, Fyfe, Ben Khan

Youngr – Out Of My System

Youngr

Youngr

It’s the first day of May, and so time for a summery number to start the month off right.

Youngr is a London-based LIPA graduate and musician, who has sought influence from the likes of Justin Timberlake, Bruno Mars, Calvin Harris, Miike Snow, NERD and his musician father August Darnell (Kid Creole & The Coconuts).

His new track is called ‘Out Of My System’, and of the track, Youngr says;

“After becoming single over the past year, I was having a lot of fun… whilst racking up a huge visa bill, travelling the world and basically getting it all out of my system. It’s a feel good record about a time in my life that was very much that, getting it all out of my system… I guess I’m probably still in that time in my life!”

‘Out Of my System’ is out on 27 May.

Sounds like: Phoenix, Miike Snow, Flight Facilities
