Always the ones to make heart-wrenching pop songs for ‘Good Girls’, your favourite boy band LANY share a new video and release their debut, self-titled album.
The video for ‘Good Girls’ focuses on lead singer and songwriter Paul Klein’s hunt for his girl in a bittersweet manner, one that LANY are becoming all too well known for.
‘LANY’ is out now on Polydor Records.

Meet MOOKHI, the musical project of Australian, Olympia Henshaw.
She’s teamed up with Sydney producer and musician, Billy Fox, for her debut release called ‘Foul Play’.
‘Foul Play’ is essentially an electronic track, but we also enjoy the abstract piano chords, which MOOKHI said she composed during a flight in which she had very little sleep.
It is taken from her ‘Lost & Found’ EP, out on 24 February.
Sounds like: James Blake, Sam Smith, Jai Paul, Ben Khan, Crozet, Brotherun, One Bit, Until The Ribbon Breaks, TDeL2, James Vincent McMorrow
Devastating pop trio, LANY, have cheered us right up with the new video for ‘ILYSB’ (I love you so bad), probably our favourite LANY song to date.
Speaking of the video, lead singer, Paul Klein, says, “I turned ‘ILYSB’ into a tragedy of unhealthy obsession and unrequited love that ultimately led to psychotic behavior and total derailment.” We’ve all been there, Paul.
LANY create new wave electronica with heart melting lyrics and pop riffs, and you can catch them at one of their shows below.

Getting all emo on us, the LANY boys return with ‘Where The Hell Are My Friends’.
A reflective number about the loneliness of a big city, and the immense pressure to go out at the weekends. It all gets too much sometimes. Watch the result below!

Nashville-born and now Los Angeles-based, LANY are developing into a better and better band every time we hear them.
When discussing the meaning behind new track, ‘Kiss’, lead singer Paul Klein says. “This song is about liars. It’s about people who don’t have the balls to tell you the legitimate truth. They’ll water it down, beat around the bush, spin it whatever way they have to. They’re probably scared to tell you what really happened or how they really feel because they ‘love you.’ But they actually just love themselves.”
‘Kiss’ has been taken off their new EP, ‘Make Out’, to be released on 11 December via Polydor Records.
They are also opening for Elle Goulding during her UK tour in March. But remember, we saw them first!

Young Empires is a feel good, Toronto-based indie band, who we cannot get enough of. We have had ‘The Gates‘ single on repeat and now the LP of the same name is about to be released!
We had a chat with Matt from the band:
Why did you start making music?
None of us were fit to work for the ‘man’ and be part of 9-5 economy. We wanted to be part of the generation of young professionals cutting their own cloth and walking to the beat of their own drum. So we started our own business, the House of Young Empires, which includes music creation, curation, brand consulting, fashion, among other things..
Your song ‘The Gates’ is about fighting through depression and self doubt. Has the creative process of making music helped you overcome similar struggles in your personal lives?
More than creative process as a tool to overcome personal issues, is the reaction that the music creates. When our fans feel a sense of connection to our music, it gives us a deep sense of purpose in life. That, for us, is much more potent and healing.
Describe your sound in three words.
Rhythmic. Uplifting. Modern.
Where do you cite your musical influences from?
We all listen to different music. Very few of us have cross influences. This makes for tension in the creative process and results in something uniquely Young Empires.
Their debut album, ‘The Gates’ is due out on 2 October via HOYEInc, Exclusively licensed to Votiv Music (excl. Canada)/Pirates Blend Records (Canada). Purchase on iTunes or have a listen to ‘So Cruel’ from the LP.
Sounds like: Little Dragon, Foster & The People, The Hurts, Sir Sly, Pistol Shrimp, Gypsy & The Cat, Brotherun, Temper Trap, Dive In, Satellite Stories, Young Kato, Ghost Beach
We love how different each LANY track sounds. Every one unveils a new layer of dreampop that tastes sweeter and sweeter upon each listen.
Single ‘Someone Else’ does exactly that. It is an electronic love song that would make any notable boy band jealous.
They support Tove Styrke in May and Maudlin Strangers in June/July.
Sounds like: Crozet, Pistol Shrimp, Brotherun, Goldroom, Scavenger Hunt, Still Corners, Paperwhite, Pawws, Sykes, Washed Out, New Navy, X Priest X, Roosevelt, Great Good Fine Ok, Lostboycrow
YoungEmpires is Matthew Vlahovich, Jacob Palahnuk and Taylor Hill from Toronto.
Despite new single ‘The Gates’ sounding like a sparkling melodic indie track, it has a deeper meaning for the trio, who describe the track as being “…essentially about fighting through depression and self-doubt… understanding and accepting that things will never be perfect. It suggests that by uniting with those around us (that may or not struggle with same), we can overcome this feeling of isolation that is so commonplace in this world.”
The track is produced by Stephen Kozmeniuk (Kendrick Lamar, The Game, Hurts).
Sounds like: The Hurts, Sir Sly, Pistol Shrimp, Gypsy & The Cat, Brotherun, Temper Trap, Dive In, Satellite Stories, Young Kato, Ghost Beach
Their cool new slow synth track ‘Uncover’ is on our August playlist, but the video has just been released and we are loving it.
The video is directed by Ronald Bingaman and follows a young girl who gets caught up in a burglary with her bad boy companion.
‘Uncover’ is the first single taken from upcoming album, ‘Prefer You’, which has been mixed by Chad Howat (Paper Route) and produced by Kyle Rictor.
‘Uncover’ is out on 11 November.
Sounds like: James Blake, Phantogram, Kye Kye, Broods, Gungor, Billy Fox, The Kite String Tangle, Until The Ribbon Breaks, Josef Salvat, Brotherun, Phoria, IYES
