Younger Hunger – Second Best

Younger Hunger

Younger Hunger is making waves with new single ‘Second Best’.

Inspired by 90’s indie-rock guitars, chart-topping pop hooks, and emo lyricism, their sound is quite difficult to pin down, especially when they refuse to make the same song twice.

Musically sitting somewhere between APRE and Sea Girls, the Orange Country-based upstarts present us with a perfect contradiction.

Ronika – Marathon

Ronika

Ronika

Nottingham songstress Ronika is back with new track ‘Marathon’ and it’s a corker!

The self-written and produced ‘Marathon’ jumps straight into Ronika’s smooth Chaka Khan reverberating vocals and has a classic disco and soulful electronic vibe to it.

The song’s lyrics refer to that rush of energy you get when falling in love, and the high you get which makes you feel like you could do anything, like running a marathon.

Ronika’s ‘Marathon’ EP is her first new material since this summer’s acclaimed ‘Selectadisc’. The EP will be released on 1 December.

If you want to catch Ronika, she will be performing on 17 October at STFD‘s ‘The Summer After Party’ in Brixton, London. See below for more info and click for link to tickets!

PWNDTIAC – Hey Girl

PWNDTIAC by Sascha Bente

PWNDTIAC by Sascha Bente

We absolutely crave the music produced by this German musketeer, PWNDTIAC. Describing himself on his facebook page as “The PWNDTIAC cruises around with heavy basslines, crispy drumsets and cheesy synths. Nothing new so far, yet there is something about it… and you won’t be able to find out until you hop on for a ride, bitch!”

And that is exactly what Indietronica has done…as have a few others including Aeroplane who has included ‘Hey Girl’ on his ‘Not-So-Monthly Mix July 2014‘.

The video follows Maike Mohr and Tessa Achtermann looking very cool dancing around a city. The track is nu-disco at it’s finest and we especially love the deep sax interlude mixed in with the early 80’s bassline.

The EP was released on 30 June via We Love This Rec and includes a just as infectious track called ‘Ready’ feat digitalfoxglove, as well as remixes by Justin Faust and Douze. You can buy the ‘Hey Girl EP’ here.

Sounds like: Ronika, Aeroplane, Prince, Harts, Blondie, Chromeo, Daft Punk, Justice, Ballet School, Bananarama

Ronika – Shell Shocked

Ronika

Ronika

Ronika has been a firm favourite of Indietronica’s for some time now.

We praised ‘Search Siren’, and now we are super excited about her new track, ‘Shell Shocked’; a dancey floor filler full of fab 80’s and summery vibes.

Whilst lining up some exciting new collaborations for 2014, Ronika has already worked with the likes of Mylo and Herve, and recruited an eclectic cast of co-producers for a handful of songs on her debut album, ‘Selectadisc’ including Mixmag’s best new DJ of the year, Citizen, Brooklyn duo Javelin, and local hip-hop pioneer Joe Buddha. Oh and we forgot to mention that Nile Rogers is fan.

Her debut album, ‘Selectadisc’ is out on 2 June 2014 and is available for pre-order now via RecordShop. The title of the album is an ode to ‘Selectadisc’, Nottingham’s iconic independent record-store, which closed its doors for the final time in 2009.

She really is the nicest girl in pop!

Sounds like: Ballet School, Ladyhawke, Color War, The Human League, Little Boots, Kate Bush, Madonna, Lady Gaga, Bananarama, Annie
