Nightshifts

His new single ‘Karma’ is about not overthinking the future and sitting back to enjoy the ride, as expressed in the track’s nonchalant off-kilter vocal melody and breezy beats.

Shenna – Magenta

Shenna - Magnenta

Wow Shenna‘s new single ‘Magenta’ is a sassy pop number, one that will straight-up encourage you to declare your desires to your number one crush.

Full of crimson synths and retro vibes beaming throughout, turn this one up loud!

Argonaut & Wasp – Prove It To You

Argonaut & Wasp

We are big fans of Argonaut & Wasp‘s indie-dance tunes, so we are psyched they have a new single called ‘Prove It To You’.

Once again testifying their ability to produce something catchy, we just can’t get enough of the track’s slurry vocals and groovy sensibilities.

Sounds like: The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Talking Heads, Phoenix

Glassio – Daydream featuring NAKAYA

Glassio

Electronic duo Glassio are going from strength to strength with each release.

The latest addition to their catalogue, ‘Daydream’, is an ode to their love of early 2000s LA-based Hip/Hop & R&B, and features the delicate vocals of NAKAYA.

The guys says they “were imagining Dre and AIR making a record together”, although we think the vocal loops are more reminiscent of Gorillz‘ ‘Stylo’.

Sounds like: Gorillz, Hot Chip, Metronomy, Foals, Jagwar Ma, Rüfüs, Flume, Odesza, Bob Moses, Glass Animals, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs

Henry Green – Stay Here

Henry Green

Bristol-based rising star Henry Green shares his dark but ethereal new single ‘Stay Here’.

A lot of greatness comes from dark places, much like this single, which Henry wrote at the site of Berlin’s 1950’s broadcast facility, Köpenicker Chaussee, during a moment of frustration and loss of direction.

It’s out now via Akira Records.

Sounds like: Jon Hopkins, Erased Tapes, Olafur Arnalds, Nils Frahm

Iris Lune – Lost In Chatter

Iris Lune

Brooklyn-based art pop quartet Iris Lune share ‘Lost In Chatter’.

Clever percussion throughout depicts chatter overlaid by synth-led harmonies and more of a dance-inspired melody, lyrically inspired by the final chapter of Lewis Carroll’s ‘Alice In Wonderland’.

Sounds like: Little Dragon, Deerhoof, Björk, Σtella

Au/Ra – Outsiders

Au/Ra

Growing up in the middle of nowhere has been the source of songwriting influence for Au/Ra‘s new single, ‘Outsiders’, not only because of her location growing up in Antigua, but also because of her introverted nature.

But this song is a call to arms for all misfits, giving them a chance to escape to a fantasy world.

She plays The Waiting Room in London on 13 November.

Sounds like: Florence + The Machine, Dua Lipa, Charli XCX, The Magnettes

Smallpools – Run With The Bulls

Smallpools by Dan Monick

Smallpools by Dan Monick

After a brief hiatus, US band Smallpools return with their first independent release; a frenetic video for ‘Run With The Bulls’.

Working with the track’s producer, Frederik Thaae (Atlas Genius, Saint Motel), for the bulk of their summer, it’s safe to say that Smallpools have definitely ramped things up a bit. Possibly a “so long!” to RCA Records, possibly not. Either way, it’s decent stuff!

Sounds like: The Bravery, Panic! At The Disco, Passion Pit, Phoenix, Matt & Kim

Playlist: Step Rockets

Step Rockets

Step Rockets

Step Rockets are a band from Minneapolis, who like to blend pop melodies with rock-inducing riffs.

They put together an incredible playlist for us. Check it out below.

Miike Snow – For U (Feat. Charli XCX)

Always a big fan of this group. Loving the non-traditional song structure here.

M83 – Go! (Feat. Mai Lan)

This song is a smash! The guitar solo is killing!

Tuxedo – Do It

Could listen to that funky synth bass all night long.

Yeasayer – I Am Chemistry

Their production is always spot on! Pushing the pop envelope by keeping it weird.

What So Not – High You Are (Branchez Remix)

Spicy future bass remix that keeps ya smilin’.

Autograf – Heartbeat

Summertime vibes.

Step Rockets – Love Is Just A Chemical

One of our favorite cuts to play live!

Tora – Latp

Super forward thinking electro-pop.

Chairlift – Ch-Ching

Just one of the many dope dance cuts off their new album. Go check the whole thing out.

Robert DeLong – Jealousy

Can’t argue with the stellar arrangement and production on this track.

Big Grams, Skrillex – Drum Machine

puts his magic touch on this crazy collab. Had to include one trap banger.

The Chemical Brothers – Wide Open

Digging Beck’s vibey vox and understated production from the Chem Bros.

Neon Indian – Polish Girl

More acid please!

Cut Copy – Lights & Music

These Aussies know how to keep the dance floor interesting.

J Dilla – Shake It Down

Wouldn’t be a Step Rockets playlist without at least one big flow cut.

Mainland – Not As Cool As Me

Mainland by Matt Salacuse

Mainland by Matt Salacuse

First it was Phoenix trying to be cool, and now it’s NYC boys Mainland claiming that no one is as cool as them.

Watching the video, the claim seems pretty valid. It appears that “don’t give a f**ks” come in a bright shade of yellow.

Watch below.

School of Seven Bells – Open Your Eyes

School of Seven Bells by Justin Hollar

School of Seven Bells by Justin Hollar

Perhaps we have saved the best track of 2015 for last.

Following the sad news in December 2013 that Benjamin Curtis of School of Seven Bells passed away following a diagnosis of T-cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma, Alejandra Deheza decided she would continue working to complete a new album, featuring parts previously recorded by Curtis in 2012.

A couple of months ago, Deheza announced that the new album ‘SVIIB’ would be ready for release on 12 February 2016, describing it as “a love letter from start to finish.”

The first release is ‘Open Your Eyes’; a stunning and emotional rendition with a dreamlike, spoken word feel to it.

Pre-order on iTunes.

Sounds like: Atlas Genius, Oh Wonder, Shura, Purity Ring

Fountain Club – Catalyst

Fountain Club

Fountain Club

Fountain Club is a brand-new indie duo from Berlin, Germany.

They describe themselves as “mathpop”, which we can only decipher means music with a fast-paced guitar rhythm and catchy lyrics…something that we believe has been missing from recent indie music.

Have a listen to ‘Catalyst’ below.

It has been taken from their ‘Distance & Atmosphere’ EP.

Sounds like: We Were Promised Jetpacks, The Maccabees, Suzuki Method, Two Door Cinema Club, Atlas Genius

Mainland – Interview & Outcast

Mainland by Matt Salacuse

Mainland by Matt Salacuse

Brooklyn’s own post punk band, Mainland, have released new single, ‘Outcast’.

We had a chat with them about all things music!

How and why did you start making music?
We as a band started making music because we love bringing people together, and having an avenue to channel our everyday life experiences.

Describe your sound in three words.
Nostalgic. Dark. Naked.

Where do you cite your musical influences from?
For our new record we drew influences from the likes of Depeche mode, the Cure, and The Cars, etc.

We love new music at Indietronica. What new music are you listening to?
Here’s a few albums we keep in rotation while on tour:

Black Messiah by D’angelo.
Just Enough Hip to be Woman by Broncho.
Alone with a friend by Talk in Tongues.
We are excited to hear debut records from our friends, Dreamers and Highly Suspect.

What are your plans for the future?
We’re currently working on a music video for our new single ‘Outcast’. In addition we’re developing new ways to interact with audiences in major cities by implementing curious and artful propaganda. Stay tuned…

We can’t wait!

The new album will be out early 2016 on 300 Entertainment. For now you can purchase ‘Outcast’ on iTunes.

Sounds like: Alkaline Trio, The Colourist, Atlas Genius, X Ambassadors, Strange Talk, Catfish & the Bottlemen, The Cure, New Order, Brandon Flowers

The KickDrums – Better

The KickDrums

The KickDrums

Producer and writer-come-solo artist, Alex Fitts has released ‘Better’ under the moniker, The KickDrums.

‘Better’ sounds like an ode to obscure late-70’s indie rock with its simplistic, yet catchy lyrics. Further still, to be able to create a song that also includes elements of hip hop and electronica takes a lot of talent, and it is clear that Alex is one talented guy.

‘Better’ is the second single from the new ‘Breathe Again EP’, which is out on 24 July via 24west Records. Pre-order on iTunes or Vinyl.

Sounds like: I AM DYNAMITE, Miike Snow, The Walkmen, Miguel, Atlas Genius, Goldroom, RAC
